| 1當時人民怨聲載道，怨聲已傳入上主的耳中；上主聽見，遂發怒；上主的火在他們中燃起，焚燒了營幕的邊緣。 |
1Now the people complained in the hearing of the LORD; and when he heard it his wrath flared up so that the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp. |
| 2人民遂向梅瑟求救；梅瑟懇求了上主，火就熄滅了， |
2But when the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died out. |
| 3遂給那地方起名叫塔貝辣，因為上主的火曾在他們中燃燒起來。 |
3 Hence that place was called Taberah, because there the fire of the LORD burned among them. |
| 4那些跟百姓來的雜族人甚是貪求口腹，連以色列子民也開始哭泣說：「誰給我們肉吃？ |
4The foreign elements among them were so greedy for meat that even the Israelites lamented again, "Would that we had meat for food! |
| 5我們記得：在埃及我們可隨便吃魚，還有胡瓜、西瓜、韮菜、蔥和蒜。 |
5We remember the fish we used to eat without cost in Egypt, and the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. |
| 6現在我們的心靈憔悴，我們眼見的除『瑪納』外，什麼也沒有。」 |
6But now we are famished; we see nothing before us but this manna." |
| 7「瑪納」形似胡荽種子，色彩有如珍珠。 |
7 Manna was like coriander seed and had the appearance of bdellium. |
| 8人民四散收歛，用磨研細，或在臼內搗碎，在鍋內煮了做成餅，它的滋味有如油餅的滋味。 |
8When they had gone about and gathered it up, the people would grind it between millstones or pound it in a mortar, then cook it in a pot and make it into loaves, which tasted like cakes made with oil. |
| 9夜間露水降在營上時，也降下「瑪納」。 |
9At night, when the dew fell upon the camp, the manna also fell. |
| 10梅瑟聽見百姓家家戶戶，各在帳棚門口悲哭。上主大發忿怒，梅瑟見了也很難受， |
10When Moses heard the people, family after family, crying at the entrance of their tents, so that the LORD became very angry, he was grieved. |
| 11遂對上主說：「你為什麼難為你的僕人？為什麼我在你眼中不蒙寵幸，竟將管理這百姓的擔子全放在我身上？ |
11"Why do you treat your servant so badly?" Moses asked the LORD. "Why are you so displeased with me that you burden me with all this people? |
| 12莫非是我懷孕了這百姓，或是我生了他們，你竟對我說：你要懷抱他們，如同褓母懷抱乳兒，直到進入你對他們的祖先所誓許的地方？ |
12Was it I who conceived all this people? or was it I who gave them birth, that you tell me to carry them at my bosom, like a foster father carrying an infant, to the land you have promised under oath to their fathers? |
| 13我從那裏拿肉給這百姓吃？因為他們向我哭訴說：給我們肉吃！ |
13Where can I get meat to give to all this people? For they are crying to me, 'Give us meat for our food.' |
| 14我獨自不能抱着這百姓，這為我太重。 |
14I cannot carry all this people by myself, for they are too heavy for me. |
| 15若你願這樣對待我，如果我在你眼中得寵，求你殺了我罷！免得我受這苦楚。」 |
15If this is the way you will deal with me, then please do me the favor of killing me at once, so that I need no longer face this distress." |
| 16上主對梅瑟說：「你給我由以色列老年人中召選七十人，你知道他們是民間的老前輩和會辦事的人，領他們進入會幕，叫他們同你一起站在那裏。 |
16Then the LORD said to Moses, "Assemble for me seventy of the elders of Israel, men you know for true elders and authorities among the people, and bring them to the meeting tent. When they are in place beside you, |
| 17在那裏我要降下，與你交談，取些你身上具有的神能，賦給他們，叫他們與你分擔管理人民的重擔，不讓你個人獨自承擔。 |
17I will come down and speak with you there. I will also take some of the spirit that is on you and will bestow it on them, that they may share the burden of the people with you. You will then not have to bear it by yourself. |
| 18你對民眾說：你們聖潔自己直到明天，你們就會有肉吃，因為上主已聽見你們哀哭說：誰給我們肉吃？我們在埃及是多麼好！如今上主要給你們肉吃了； |
18"To the people, however, you shall say: Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, when you shall have meat to eat. For in the hearing of the LORD you have cried, 'Would that we had meat for food! Oh, how well off we were in Egypt!' Therefore the LORD will give you meat for food, |
| 19不但是一天、兩天、五天、十天、二十天，你們有肉吃， |
19and you will eat it, not for one day, or two days, or five, or ten, or twenty days, |
| 20而是整月，直到肉從你們的鼻子裏出來，吃的生厭，因為你們輕視了住在你們中的上主，在他面前涕泣說：為什麼我們出離了埃及？」 |
20but for a whole month-until it comes out of your very nostrils and becomes loathsome to you. For you have spurned the LORD who is in your midst, and in his presence you have wailed, 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'" |
| 21梅瑟說：「與我同住的人民，步行的男子就有六十萬，你卻說：我要給他們肉吃，且吃一整月。 |
21But Moses said, "The people around me include six hundred thousand soldiers; yet you say, 'I will give them meat to eat for a whole month.' |
| 22就是將牛羊都為他們殺了，為他們夠用麼？或將海裏的魚全給他們捉來，為他們足用麼？」 |
22Can enough sheep and cattle be slaughtered for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?" |
| 23上主回答梅瑟說：「難道上主的手短了？你就要看見我對你說的話是否應驗。」 |
23The LORD answered Moses, "Is this beyond the LORD'S reach? You shall see now whether or not what I have promised you takes place." |
| 24梅瑟將上主的話告訴了人民；隨後從人民的老年人中召選了七十人，令他們站在會幕四周。 |
24So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. Gathering seventy elders of the people, he had them stand around the tent. |
| 25上主乘雲降下，與梅瑟談話；將他身上的神能，賦給那七十位長老；這神能一降在他們身上，他們就出神說話；以後再沒有出神。 |
25 The LORD then came down in the cloud and spoke to him. Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, he bestowed it on the seventy elders; and as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied. |
| 26當時有兩個人留在營內，一個名叫厄耳達得，一個名叫默達得；這神能也降在他們身上；他們原是在被錄取的人內，卻沒有到會幕那裏去，就在營內出神說話。 |
26Now two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied in the camp. |
| 27有一少年跑來告訴梅瑟說：「厄耳達得和默達得在營內出神說話。」 |
27So, when a young man quickly told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp," |
| 28自幼即服事梅瑟的農的兒子若蘇厄遂說：「我主梅瑟！你該禁止他們。」 |
28Joshua, son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses' aide, said, "Moses, my lord, stop them." |
| 29梅瑟回答他說：「你為我的緣故嫉妒人麼？巴不得上主的人民都成先知，上主將自己的精神貫注在他們身上！」 |
29But Moses answered him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets! Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!" |
| 30梅瑟遂與以色列的長老回到了營內。 |
30Then Moses retired to the camp, along with the elders of Israel. |
| 31那時上主使一陣風颳起，由海上吹來了鵪鶉，散落在營幕上；鵪鶉在營幕四周多得有一天路程那麼遠，在地面上約有二肘厚。 |
31 There arose a wind sent by the LORD, that drove in quail from the sea and brought them down over the camp site at a height of two cubits from the ground for the distance of a day's journey all around the camp. |
| 32人民那一整日整夜，且在第二日整天都忙於捕捉鵪鶉，收集得最少的，也收集了十堆，都擺在營幕四周。 |
32 All that day, all night, and all the next day the people gathered in the quail. Even the one who got the least gathered ten homers of them. Then they spread them out all around the camp. |
| 33肉還在他們的牙齒間，尚未嚼爛，上主就對人民發怒了，以極嚴重的災禍打擊了人民。 |
33But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it could be consumed, the LORD'S wrath flared up against the people, and he struck them with a very great plague. |
| 34故此人給那地方起名叫克貝洛特阿塔瓦，因為在那裏埋葬了貪饕的人民。 |
34 So that place was named Kibroth-hattaavah, because it was there that the greedy people were buried. |
| 35以後民眾由克貝洛特阿塔瓦起程，向哈茲洛特出發，在哈茲洛特住下了。 |
35From Kibroth-hattaavah the people set out for Hazeroth. |
