| 2「你要派遣一些人去窺探我要賜給以色列子民的客納罕地；每一宗族支派應派遣一人去，個個都應是他們中的領袖。」 | 2"Send men to reconnoiter the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. You shall send one man from each ancestral tribe, all of them princes." |
| 3梅瑟就依照上主的命令，從帕蘭曠野派遣他們去了；這些人全是以色列子民的首領。 | 3So Moses dispatched them from the desert of Paran, as the LORD had ordered. All of them were leaders among the Israelites; |

| 5西默盎支派是曷黎的兒子沙法特； | 5Shaphat, son of Hori, of the tribe of Simeon; |
| 6猶大支派是耶孚乃的兒子加肋布； | 6Caleb, son of Jephunneh, of the tribe of Judah; |
| 7依撒加爾支派，是若瑟的兒子依卡耳； | 7Igal (son of Joseph), of the tribe of Issachar; |
| 8厄弗辣因支派是農的兒子曷舍亞； | 8Hoshea, son of Nun, of the tribe of Ephraim; |
| 9本雅明支派是辣富的兒子帕耳提； | 9Palti, son of Raphu, of the tribe of Benjamin; |
| 10則步隆支派是索狄的兒子加狄耳； | 10Gaddiel, son of Sodi, of the tribe of Zebulun; |
| 11若瑟支派，即默納協支派是穌息的兒子加狄； | 11Gaddi, son of Susi, of the tribe of Manasseh, for the Josephites, with |
| 12丹支派是革瑪里的兒子阿米耳； | 12Ammiel, son of Gemalli, of the tribe of Dan; |
| 13阿協爾支派是米加耳的兒子色突爾； | 13Sethur, son of Michael, of the tribe of Asher; |

| 16以上是梅瑟派去窺探那地方的人名；梅瑟給農的兒子曷舍亞起名叫若蘇厄。 | 16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent out to reconnoiter the land. But Hoshea, son of Nun, Moses called Joshua. |
| 17當梅瑟派遣他們窺探客納罕地時，向他們說：「你們由此上乃革布去，然後上山區去， | 17In sending them to reconnoiter the land of Canaan, Moses said to them, "Go up here in the Negeb, up into the highlands, |
| 18窺看那地方怎樣，看住在那地方的人民是強盛或是軟弱，是稀少或是眾多； | 18and see what kind of land it is. Are the people living there strong or weak, few or many? |
| 19他們住的地方是好，或是壞；他們居住的城鎮是不設防，或是設防的； | 19Is the country in which they live good or bad? Are the towns in which they dwell open or fortified? |
| 20有什麼土壤，是肥沃或是貧瘠；在那裡有沒有樹木。你們應勇敢，帶些那地方的果子來。」那時是葡萄初熟的時節。 | 20Is the soil fertile or barren, wooded or clear? And do your best to get some of the fruit of the land." It was then the season for early grapes. |
| 21他們遂上去，窺探了那地方，從親曠野直到勒曷布，哈瑪特關口。 | 21 So they went up and reconnoitered the land from the desert of Zin as far as where Rehob adjoins Labo of Hamath. |
| 22他們上到乃革布，來到了赫貝龍。在那裡有阿納克的後裔阿希曼、舍瑟和塔耳買。──赫貝龍城比埃及左罕城早建七年。 | 22 Going up by way of the Negeb, they reached Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, descendants of the Anakim, were living. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) |
| 23他們一直來到厄市苛耳山谷，砍下了一枝只有一嘟嚕的葡萄，兩人用槓子抬著，又摘了些石榴和無花果。 | 23 They also reached the Wadi Eshcol, where they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes on it, which two of them carried on a pole, as well as some pomegranates and figs. |
| 24人稱那地方為厄市苛耳山谷，因為以色列子民從那裡砍去了一嘟嚕葡萄。 | 24It was because of the cluster the Israelites cut there that they called the place Wadi Eshcol. |
| 25四十天後，他們由偵探的地方回來， | 25After reconnoitering the land for forty days they returned, |
| 26到了帕蘭曠野的卡德士去見梅瑟、亞郎和以色列子民的全會眾，給他們和全會眾報告，叫他們看那地方的果子。 | 26met Moses and Aaron and the whole community of the Israelites in the desert of Paran at Kadesh, made a report to them all, and showed them the fruit of the country. |
| 27他們向梅瑟報告說：「我們到了你派遣我們去的那個地方，實在是流奶流蜜的地方；這是那地方的出產。 | 27They told Moses: "We went into the land to which you sent us. It does indeed flow with milk and honey, and here is its fruit. |
| 28只是住在那地方的人強盛，城鎮堅固廣大，而且我們在那裡也見到了阿納克的後裔。 | 28However, the people who are living in the land are fierce, and the towns are fortified and very strong. Besides, we saw descendants of the Anakim there. |
| 29阿瑪肋克人住在乃革布地方；赫特人、耶步斯人和阿摩黎人住在山區；客納罕人住在海濱和約但河沿岸一帶。」 | 29Amalekites live in the region of the Negeb; Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites dwell in the highlands, and Canaanites along the seacoast and the banks of the Jordan." |
| 30加肋布使百姓在梅瑟前鎮靜說：「我們儘管上去，必要佔領那地方。我們必能戰勝。」 | 30Caleb, however, to quiet the people toward Moses, said, "We ought to go up and seize the land, for we can certainly do so." |
| 31但是與他同去的人卻說：「我們不能前去攻打那民族，因為他們比我們強盛。」 | 31But the men who had gone up with him said, "We cannot attack these people; they are too strong for us." |
| 32於是他們在以色列子民中，對所偵探的地方散佈謠言說：「我們偵探所經過的地方，是個吞噬當地居民的地方；我們在那裡所見到的民族，都是高大的人。 | 32So they spread discouraging reports among the Israelites about the land they had scouted, saying, "The land that we explored is a country that consumes its inhabitants. And all the people we saw there are huge men, |
| 33在那裡還見到了巨人，即巨人的後裔，阿納克的子孫；我們看自己好像是蚱蜢；在他們看來，我們也實在如此。」 | 33 veritable giants (the Anakim were a race of giants); we felt like mere grasshoppers, and so we must have seemed to them." |
