| 1撒殚起来反对以色列，怂恿达味统计以色列： | 1Satan wanted to bring trouble on the people of Israel and so he made David take a census of the Israelites. |
| 2达味对约阿布及人民的首领说：「你们去统计以色列，由贝尔舍巴直到丹，然后回来告诉我，叫我知道他们的数目。」 | 2David said to Joab and to the senior army officers, "Go, and take a census of Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, then come back that I may know their number." |
| 3约阿布回答说：「愿上主使自己的百姓比现在更增加百倍！我主大王，他们不都是我主的仆人吗？我主为什么硬要这样作？为什么要使以色列陷于罪恶？」 | 3Joab said, "May Yahweh multiply the people a hundred times! My lord king, are they not all your servants? Why do you want to do this? Will you bring guilt upon Israel?" |
| 4然而君王的命令迫使约阿布；约阿布便去，走遍了全以色列，然后回到耶路撒冷， | 4But the king enforced his order on Joab, and Joab went away, traveling through the whole country of Israel before he returned to Jerusalem. |
| 5将统计人民的数目呈报给达味：全以色列能持刀的人有一百一十万，犹大人能持刀的有四十七万。 | 5Joab gave David the figures for the census of the people: the whole of Israel numbered one million, one hundred thousand men capable of drawing sword, and Judah four hundred and seventy thousand capable of drawing sword. |
| 6惟有肋未人及本雅明人没有统计，因为约阿布憎厌君王的命令。 | 6But Joab disapproved of the king's command, and, because of this he had not taken any census of Levi or of Benjamin. |
| 7这事使天主不悦，遂打击了以色列。 | 7God looked with displeasure on what had been done and so he began to punish Israel. |
| 8达味对天主说：「我作这事，实在犯了重罪。现在，求你赦免你仆人的罪，因为我所行的实在昏愚。」 | 8Then David said to God, "I have sinned greatly by doing this. But now I beg you to forgive me for this fault. I have been very foolish." |
| 9上主晓谕达味的先见者加得说： | 9Then Yahweh spoke to Gad, David's prophet, |
| 10「你去告诉达味：上主这样说：我给你提出三件事，任你选择一件，我好向你实行。」 | 10"Go and say to David, 'Yahweh says this: I offer you three things; choose one of them for me to do to you." |
| 11加得来到达味前，对他说：「上主这样说：任你选择： | 11So Gad went to David and said, "Yahweh says this, 'Take your choice: |
| 12或者三年饥荒；或者三个月在你敌人前流亡，为敌人持刀追击；或者三日在你国内遭受上主的刀，即瘟疫，让上主的使者蹂躏以色列全境。现在你考虑一下，我应向那派遣我来的回复什么！」 | 12three years of famine, three months running away from the armies of your enemies, or three days of Yahweh's own sword, an epidemic in your land, with Yahweh's destroying angel bringing death throughout Israel.' Now decide how I am to answer him who sends me." |
| 13达味对加得说：「我很作难，但我宁愿落在上主手中，因为他富于仁慈，而不愿落在人手中。」 | 13David said to Gad, "This is a hard choice, but let me rather fall into the power of Yahweh, since his mercy is very great; and not into the power of men." |
| 14于是上主使瘟疫降于以色列；在以色列因瘟疫死了七万人。 | 14So Yahweh sent an epidemic on Israel, and seventy thousand men of the Israelites died. |
| 15当时，天主派一位天使往耶路撒冷去，要毁灭那城；将要毁灭的时候，上主一看，便后悔降灾，遂吩咐毁灭的天使说：「够了，现在收回你的手罢！」那时，上主的天使正立在耶步斯人敖尔难的禾场上。 | 15God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, Yahweh looked and changed his mind; and he said to the destroying angel, "Enough! Now withdraw your hand." The angel of Yahweh was standing beside the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. |
| 16达味举目，见上主的使者立在天地中间，手持脱鞘的刀，朝向耶路撒冷。达味与众长老都身穿麻衣，俯伏在地。 | 16David saw the angel of Yahweh standing between the heavens and earth with a naked sword in his hand, ready to destroy Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces. |
| 17达味对天主说：「不是我下了令统计百姓么？是我犯了罪，是我这个牧者作了恶。但这羊群作了什么？上主，我的天主！愿你的手打击我和我的父家，但不要将瘟疫降在你百姓身上！」 | 17And David prayed to God, "Was it not I who sinned, by ordering this wicked census? But these, this flock, what have they done? Yahweh my God, let your hand lie heavy on me and on my family; but let your people escape the plague." |
| 18上主的天使吩咐加得去告诉达味，叫他上去，在耶步斯人敖尔难的禾场上，为上主建立一座祭坛。 | 18The angel of Yahweh then said to Gad, "David must go up and build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite." |
| 19达味就照加得奉上主的名所说的话上去了。 | 19So David obeyed the command which Gad had spoken in the name of Yahweh. |
| 20敖尔难回头看见君王和他的四个儿子经过；那时敖尔难正在打麦子。 | 20Now Ornan, as he turned, had seen the angel and had hidden, with his four sons. Ornan was threshing wheat |
| 21达味走到敖尔难那里，敖尔难一看见是达味，便走出禾场，俯首至地叩拜达味。 | 21when David came to him. When Ornan looked up and saw David coming, he left the threshing floor and with his face to the ground did homage to David. |
| 22达味对敖尔难说：「请将这块禾场地段让给我，我要在这禾场上为上主建立一座祭坛，请照足价让给我，为止息民间的灾祸。」 | 22Then David said to Ornan, "Sell me your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh. Let me have it at its full price, that the plague may be turned away from the people." |
| 23敖尔难对达味说：「尽管用罢！我主大王看着好，就去行罢！看，我将牛给你作全燔祭，打禾具作木柴，麦子作素祭：这一切我都供给你。」 | 23"Take it," Ornan said to David, "and let my lord the king do as he thinks right. Look, I will give you the oxen for burnt offerings, the threshing sled for the wood and the wheat for the grain offering; I give them all." |
| 24达味王对敖尔难说：「不成！我一定要照足价来买；我不能拿你的东西献于上主，不能用没有代价的东西，献作全燔祭。」 | 24But King David said to Ornan, "No, I must buy it from you at the full price; I will not take for Yahweh what is yours, or offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing." |
| 25于是达味为那块地付给敖尔难六百「协刻耳」重的金子。 | 25So David gave Ornan six hundred gold coins for the threshing place. |
| 26达味在那里为上主建立了一座祭坛，奉献了全燔祭与和平祭，呼求了上主，上主由天上垂听了他，使火降在全燔祭坛上， | 26David built an altar there to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. He called on Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him with fire from heaven on the altar for burnt offerings |
| 27并命天使将刀收入鞘中。 | 27and ordered the angel to put his sword away. |
| 28那时，达味见上主在耶步斯人敖尔难的禾场上垂听了他，就在那里献了祭。── | 28Then David saw that Yahweh had answered him on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, so he kept on offering sacrifices there. |
| 29梅瑟在旷野所造的会幕和全燔祭坛，那时虽都在基贝红高处； | 29The Holy Tent of Yahweh that Moses had made in the wilderness and the altar for burnt offerings were at that time at the High place at Gibeon, |
| 30但达味不敢前去求问天主，因为害怕上主使者的刀。 | 30but David had not been able to go there before God to consult him, so fearful was he of the sword of the angel of Yahweh. |
