| 1过了许多时日，到了第三年，有上主的话传於厄里亚说：「你去见阿哈布，我要在这地上降雨。」 | 1After several days (in the third year) Yahweh spoke to Elijah and said, "Go, show yourself to Ahab that I may let it rain on the earth." |
| 2厄里亚就去见阿哈布；那时，撒玛黎雅正遭受严重的饥荒。 | 2So Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. |
| 3阿哈布将自己的家宰敖巴狄雅召来，──敖巴狄雅原是一位很敬畏上主的人。 | 3Now the famine in Samaria was severe. Ahab therefore called Obadiah, who was in charge of the household. |
| 4当依则贝耳杀害上主的先知时，他曾收留了一百个先知，每五十人分藏在一个洞里，私下供给他们饮食。── | 4(Obadiah was a faithful servant of Yahweh and when Jezebel slew the prophets of Yahweh he himself took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in caves, feeding them with bread and water.) |
| 5阿哈布对敖巴狄雅说：「我们要走遍这地，到所有的水泉和小河那里去，或许能找到一些青草，使骡马生存，免得丧失许多牲畜。」 | 5Then Ahab told Obadiah, "Let's go and check all the watersprings and the valleys through the land, looking for grass so that the horses and mules may be kept alive and not perish." |
| 6他们於是分地巡行：阿哈布独自走了一条路，敖巴狄雅也独自走了另一条路。 | 6So Ahab and Obadiah divided the land between them and each of them went his own way. |
| 7敖巴狄雅走路时，厄里亚恰巧遇见了他；敖巴狄雅认得他，便俯伏在地说：「你不就是我主厄里亚吗？」 | 7As Obadiah was going his way, Elijah met him. Recognizing Elijah, Obadiah fell on his face and said, "Is that you, my master Elijah?" |
| 8厄里亚回答说：「是，你去告诉你的主人说：厄里亚在这里。」 | 8He answered him, "It is I. Go tell your master that I am here." |
| 9敖巴狄雅说：「我犯了什么罪？你竟要将你的仆人交於阿哈布手中，让他杀死我？ | 9But Obadiah replied, "What evil have I done that you expose me to Ahab's anger? Surely you want me to die. |
| 10我指着永生的上主，你的天主起誓：没有一个民族，没有一个国家，我的主上不派人去寻找你的；如果人们说：厄里亚不在我们这里；他一定要叫那个国家和那个民族起誓说：实在他们没有找到你。 | 10By Yahweh, your God, there is no people or nation where my master has not searched for you and if they said, 'Elijah is not here,' he would make them take an oath that they had not found you. |
| 11现在你说：你去告诉你的主人说：厄里亚在这里。 | 11Yet now as soon as I leave to inform Ahab of your presence, |
| 12我一离开你，上主的神把你带到我所不知道的地方去；我若去告诉阿哈布，而他找不到你，岂不要杀死我？你的仆人自幼也是个敬畏上主的人啊！ | 12the Spirit of Yahweh will transport your goodness elsewhere, and when Ahab fails to find you, he will kill me. But I have served Yahweh from my youth. |
| 13难道我主没有听说过：当依则贝耳残杀上主的先知时，我所作的事？我曾隐藏一百个上主的先知，每五十人分藏在一个洞里，由我供给他们饮食。 | 13Do you not know that when Jezebel had the prophets of Yahweh killed, I hid a hundred of them in two caves and fed them with bread and water? |
| 14现在你说：你去告诉你的主人，厄里亚在这里，他一定要杀我！」 | 14Now if I notify Ahab of your presence, as you want me to do, he will surely kill me!" |
| 15厄里亚说：「我指着我所服侍的万军的永生上主起誓：今天我一定要叫阿哈布看见我。」 | 15But Elijah said to him, "By Yahweh of hosts whom I serve, I will show myself to him today." |
| 16敖巴狄雅於是前去会见阿哈布，告诉了他这消息，阿哈布就去迎接厄里亚。 | 16So Obadiah went to give Ahab this message and Ahab came to meet Elijah. |
| 17阿哈布一见厄里亚，就对他说：「叫以色列遭难的人，不就是你吗？」 | 17On seeing Elijah, Ahab said to him, "Is it you, the plague of Israel?" |
| 18厄里亚答说：「不是我叫以色列遭难，而是你和你的父家，因为你们拋弃了上主的诫命，归顺了巴耳邪神。 | 18Elijah replied, "Who is troubling Israel? Isn't it you and your family who have disobeyed the commands of Yahweh and followed instead the Baals? |
| 19现在，你派人去召集全以色列人，同受依则贝耳供养的那四百五十个巴耳的先知，【及那四百个阿舍辣的先知，】上加尔默耳山，到我跟前来。」 | 19Now, therefore, give an order for the Israelites to gather before me at Mount Carmel, together with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal who are sustained by Jezebel." |
| 20阿哈布便派人召集了所有的以色列子民，聚集了那些先知，一起到了加尔默耳山上。 | 20So Ahab sent for all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets at Mount Carmel. |
| 21厄里亚走向全体民众面前说：「你们摇摆不定，模稜两可，要到几时呢？如果上主是天主，你们就应该随从上主；如果巴耳是天主，就该随从巴耳。」人民一句话也不回答。 | 21Then Elijah ad-dressed the people and asked, "How long will you follow two ways at the same time? If Yahweh is God, follow him; but if Baal is God then follow him." The people remained silent. |
| 22厄里亚对人民说：「上主的先知只剩下我一个人了，巴耳的先知却有四百五十人。 | 22So Elijah continued, "I am the only prophet of Yahweh left here to face Baal's four hundred and fifty prophets. |
| 23请给我们牵两只公牛犊来；他们可任选一只，剖分成块，放在木柴上，不要点火；我也照样预备另一只，放在木柴上，也不点火。 | 23Get us two bulls. Let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it into pieces and lay it on the wood and I will do the same with the other bull. But we will not set it on fire. |
| 24你们呼求你们神的名字，我也呼求上主的名字：那降火显示应允的神，就是真神。」民众回答说：「你这话说得很好！」 | 24Then you shall call on the name of your god while I shall call on the name of Yahweh. The God who answers with fire is the true one." Then the people answered, "That is right." |
| 25厄里亚对巴耳的先知们说：「因为你们人数众多，你们该先挑选一只牛犊，準备好，然后呼求你们神的名字，只是不要点火。」 | 25Then Elijah told the prophets of Baal, "Choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first, for you are many. Then call on the name of your god lest you are left without fire!" |
| 26他们即将人给他们的公牛犊牵来，预备好，从早晨直到中午呼求巴耳的名字说：「巴耳，应允我们罢！」但是没有声音，也没有答应的。他们就在自己所筑的祭坛旁，跪下又起来，跳个不停。 | 26So they took the bull and prepared it, and they called on the name of Baal, "Baal, answer us!" But there was no voice and no one answered them while they went on dancing on one foot around the altar they had built. |
| 27到了中午，厄里亚嘲弄他们说：「你们再高声喊叫，因为他是神，或者他正在沉思冥想，或者他暂时隐退，或者正在外旅行，或者他正在睡觉，必须把他叫醒。」 | 27By noontime, Elijah began to mock them, "Shout out louder. Baal is a busy god; or he may have gone out or perhaps he has gone on a trip, or he is sleeping and must be wakened." |
| 28他们遂更高声喊叫，照他们的习惯，用刀用枪割伤自己，直到全身流出血来。 | 28So they shouted louder gashing their skin with knives, as they are used to doing, until they bled. |
| 29过了中午，他们仍继续狂喊乱叫，直到晚祭的时候，但仍然没有声音，也没有答应的，也没有理会的。 | 29It was already past noon and they were still raving on until the time of the evening offering. But still there was no voice; no one answered or gave a sign of life. |
| 30厄里亚对全体人民说：「你们到我这边来。」全体人民便都到他那边去；厄里亚立即重修了已经坍塌了的上主的祭坛； | 30Then Elijah said to the people, "Draw closer to me," and the people drew closer to him. He then repaired the altar of Yahweh which had been thrown down. |
| 31依照雅各伯子孙的支派数目，取了十二块石头，──这雅各伯就是上主曾对他说过：「你的名字要叫以色列。」── | 31He took twelve stones corresponding to the number of tribes of the sons of Jacob whom Yahweh had addressed saying, "Israel shall be your name." |
| 32用这些石头，为上主的名筑成一座祭坛，在祭坛四周作了一个水沟，可容二「色阿」谷种。 | 32With these stones, he built an altar to the Name of Yahweh and dug a trench around it that would contain about thirty liters. |
| 33把木柴放好，将牛犊剖分成块，放在木柴上， | 33He then arranged the firewood, cut the bull in pieces and laid them on the wood. Then, he said, "Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the firewood." |
| 34然后吩咐说：「盛满四桶水，倒在全燔祭和木柴上！」他们就这样做了。他又吩咐说：「再倒一次！」他们就再倒了一次；他再吩咐说：「倒第三次！」他们就倒了第三次； | 34He said, "Do it again"; and they did it again; "one more time," and they did it a third time. |
| 35水沿祭坛四周奔流，沟里满了水。 | 35The water ran around the altar and filled the trench. |
| 36到了要奉献晚祭的时候，厄里亚先知走近前来说：「上主，亚巴郎、依撒格和以色列的天主，求你今天使人知道：你是以色列的天主，我是你的仆人，是奉你的命作这一切事。 | 36When the time of the evening offering came, Elijah the prophet came near and said, "O Yahweh, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant, doing all these things at your command. |
| 37上主，求你应允我，应允我！使这人民知道你上主，是真天主，是你叫他们心回意转。」 | 37Answer me, O Yahweh, answer me so that this people may know that you, O Yahweh, are God and that you are turning back their hearts to you." |
| 38於是上主的火降下，焚尽了全燔祭、柴木、石头和尘土，也烧干了沟中的水。 | 38Then the fire of Yahweh fell and consumed the burnt offering, together with the wood, the stones also, and the dust; the water also dried up in the trench. |
| 39全体人民见了，都俯伏在地说：「雅威是天主，雅威是天主！」 | 39All the people witnessed this. Then they fell on their faces and said, "Yahweh is God! Yahweh is God!" |
| 40厄里亚对民众说：「你们捉住巴耳的先知，不要让他们走脱一个！」民众立即捉住他们。厄里亚带他们下到克雄小河旁，在那里将他们全部杀掉。 | 40Then Elijah commanded them, "Seize the prophets of Baal and let none of them escape." And so they seized them. Then Elijah brought them down to the brook Kidron and had them slaughtered there. |
| 41厄里亚对阿哈布说：「你上去吃喝罢！因为已听到大雨的怒号声。」 | 41Elijah then said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink, for the sound of rain is rushing in." |
| 42阿哈布就上去吃喝，厄里亚却上了加尔默耳山顶，跪伏在地，将脸放在两膝之间。 | 42So Ahab went up to eat and drink. Elijah, in the meantime, went to the top of Carmel, bowed to the ground and put his face between his knees. |
| 43以后，对自己的仆人说：「你上去，朝海那边观看！」仆人就上去观看，说：「什么也没有。」厄里亚说：「你来回观看七次！」他就去了七次。 | 43Then he said to his servant, "Go up and look in the direction of the sea." The man went up, looked, and said, "There is nothing." Then Elijah said, "Go again" and seven times he went. |
| 44第七次仆人说：「看，有一片云彩，小得像人手掌那么大，从海上升起来了。」厄里亚说：「你上去告诉阿哈布说：快套车下去，免得被雨阻止！」 | 44At the seventh time, he perceived a little cloud, the size of a man's hand, rising out of the sea. Elijah told him, "Go, tell Ahab: Prepare your chariot and go down before the rain stops you." |
| 45转瞬之间，天空因风云而变为昏黑，落下大雨；阿哈布上车去了依次勒耳。 | 45A little later the sky grew dark with clouds and wind and a strong rain fell. Ahab was riding on his way to Jezreel; |
| 46上主的手临於厄里亚身上，他就束上腰，跑在阿哈布前头，直到依次勒耳的城门口。 | 46as for Elijah, the hand of Yahweh was on him, and tucking his cloak in his belt, he ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. |
