¹在凯撒勒雅有一个人，名叫科尔乃略，是所谓意大利营的百夫长。	¹There was in Caesarea a man named Cornelius, captain of what was called the Italian Battalion.
²他同他的全家，是虔诚而敬畏天主的人，对百姓慷慨好施，又常向天主祈祷。	²He was a religious and God-fearing man together with his whole household. He gave generously to the people and constantly prayed to God.
³有一天，大约第九时辰，他在异像中，清楚看见天主的一位天使进来，到他跟前向他说：「科尔乃略！」	³One afternoon at about three he had a vision in which he clearly saw an angel of God coming towards him and calling him, "Cornelius!"
⁴他注目看天使，就惊惶害怕说：「主，有什么事？」天使回答说：「你的祈祷和施舍已升到天主面前，获得纪念。	⁴He stared at the vision with awe and said, "What is it, sir?" And the angel answered, "Your prayers and your alms have just been recalled before God.
⁵你现在打发人往约培去，请号称伯多禄的一位西满来。	⁵Now send some men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon also known as Peter;
⁶这人客居在一个名叫西满的皮匠家里，他的房子靠着海。」	⁶he is the guest of Simon, a tanner, who lives beside the sea."
⁷向他说话的天使一走，他便叫来了两个家仆和常护卫自己的一个虔诚兵士，	⁷As soon as the angel who spoke to him departed, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those attached to his service,
⁸把一切事告诉了他们，就打发他们往约培去了。	⁸and after having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
⁹第二天，他们行路将近城的时候，约在第六个时辰，伯多禄上了屋顶祈祷。	⁹The next day, while they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up to the roof at about noon to pray.
¹⁰他那时饿了，愿意进食；正在人预备饭的时候，他就神魂超拔了。	¹⁰He became hungry and wished to eat, but while they were preparing food, he fell into a trance.
¹¹他看见天开了，降下一个器皿，好像一块大布，系着四角，缒到地上，	¹¹The heavens were opened to him and he saw an object that looked like a large sheet coming down, until it rested on the ground by its four corners.
¹²里面有各种四足兽、地上的爬虫和天空的飞鸟。	¹²In it were all kinds of four-legged animals of the earth, reptiles and birds.
¹³有声音向他说：「伯多禄！起来，宰了，吃罢！」	¹³Then a voice said to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
¹⁴伯多禄却答说：「主，绝对不可！因为我从来没有吃过一样污秽和不洁之物。」	¹⁴But Peter replied, "Certainly not, Lord! I have never eaten any defiled or unclean creature."
¹⁵声音第二次又向他说：「天主称为洁净的，你不可称为污秽！」	¹⁵And again a second time the voice spoke, "What God has made clean, you must not call unclean."
¹⁶这事一连发生了三次，那器皿随即撤回天上去了。	¹⁶This happened three times and then the sheet was taken up again into the sky.
¹⁷伯多禄正在猜想他所见的异像有什么意思的时候，看，科尔乃略打发来的人，已查问到西满的家，站在门前。	¹⁷While Peter was still puzzling over the meaning of the vision he had seen, the messengers of Cornelius arrived at the gate asking for the house of Simon.
¹⁸他们喊着询问：号称伯多禄的西满是否住在这里。	¹⁸They called out to inquire whether Simon, also known as Peter, was staying there.
¹⁹伯多禄还在沉思那异像时，圣神说：「看，有三个人找你。	¹⁹At that moment, as Peter continued pondering on the vision, the Spirit spoke to him, "There are men looking for you;
²⁰起来，下去，同他们一起去罢！不要疑惑，因为是我打发他们来的。」	²⁰get up and go downstairs and follow them without hesitation, for I have sent them."
²¹伯多禄下来向那些人说：「看，我就是你们所找的人。你们来这里做什么？」	²¹So Peter went and said to the men, "I am the one you are looking for. What brings you here?" They answered,
²²他们答说：「科尔乃略百夫长是个正义和敬畏天主的人，也受全犹太人民的称誉；他蒙圣天使指示，请你到他家去，听你讲道。」	²²"He who sent us is Captain Cornelius. He is an upright and God-fearing man, well respected by all the Jewish people. He has been instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, so that he may listen to what you have to say."
²³伯多禄于是请他们进来住下，第二天起来，便同他们一齐去了；还有几个约培的兄弟陪着他。	²³So Peter invited them in and put them up for the night. The next day he went off with them and some of the believers from Joppa accompanied him.
²⁴次日，他到了凯撒勒雅。那时，科尔乃略召集了自己的亲戚和密友，等候他们来。	²⁴The following day, he arrived in Caesarea where Cornelius was expecting them; he had called together his relatives and close friends.
²⁵当伯多禄进来的时候，科尔乃略去迎接他，跪伏在他脚前叩拜。	²⁵As Peter was about to enter, Cornelius went to him, fell on his knees and bowed low.
²⁶伯多禄拉他起来说：「起来！我自己也是个人。」	²⁶But Peter lifted him up saying, "Stand up, for I too am a human being."
²⁷就同他谈着话进去了，看见有许多人聚集在那里，	²⁷After talking with him, Peter entered and found many people assembled there.
²⁸便对他们说：「你们都知道犹太人是不准同外邦人交接来往的；但是，天主指示给我，没有一个可说是污秽或不洁的人。	²⁸Then he said to them, "You know that it is forbidden for Jews to associate with anyone of another nation or to enter their houses. But God has made it clear to me that no one should call any person common or unclean;
²⁹为此，我一被请，毫不犹豫地就来了。请问：你们请我来是为什么原故？」	²⁹because of this I came at once when I was sent for. Now I should like to know why you sent for me."
³⁰科尔乃略说：「从此时起，四天以前，第九时辰，我在我房中祈祷时，忽然有位穿华丽衣服的人站在我面前，	³⁰Cornelius then answered, "Just three days ago at this time, about three in the afternoon, I was praying in my house when a man in shining clothes stood before me
³¹说：科尔乃略，你的祈祷蒙了垂允，你的施舍在天主前得到记念。	³¹and said to me: 'Cornelius, God has heard your prayer, and your alms have been remembered before him.
³²所以，你要打发人往约培去，叫号称伯多禄的西满来，他客居在靠近海的皮匠西满家里。	³²Send someone, therefore, to Joppa and ask for Simon, also known as Peter, who is guest at the house of Simon the tanner by the sea.'
³³我就立刻打发人到你那里去了。你来的真好！现今我们众人都在天主前，要听主所吩咐你的一切。」	³³So I sent for you at once and you have been kind enough to come. Now we are all here in God's presence, waiting to hear all that the Lord has commanded you to say."
³⁴伯多禄遂开口说：「我真正明白了：天主是不看情面的，	³⁴Peter then spoke to them, "Truly, I realize that God does not show partiality,
³⁵凡在各民族中，敬畏他而又履行正义的人，都是他所中悦的。	³⁵but in all nations he listens to everyone who fears God and does good.
³⁶他藉耶稣基督──他原是万民的主──宣讲了和平的喜讯，把这道先传给以色列子民。	³⁶And this is the message he has sent to the children of Israel, the good news of peace he has proclaimed through Jesus Christ, who is the Lord of all.
³⁷你们都知道：在若翰宣讲洗礼以后，从加里肋亚开始，在全犹太所发生的事：	³⁷No doubt you have heard of the event that occurred throughout the whole country of the Jews, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism John preached.
³⁸天主怎样以圣神和德能傅了纳匝肋的耶稣，使他巡行各处，施恩行善，治好一切受魔鬼压制的人，因为天主同他在一起。	³⁸You know how God anointed Jesus the Nazarean with Holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all who were under the devil's power, because God was with him;
³⁹我们就是他在犹太人地域和耶路撒冷所行一切的见证人。他们却把他悬在木架上，杀死了。	³⁹we are witnesses of all that he did throughout the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem itself. Yet they put him to death by hanging him on a wooden cross.
⁴⁰第三天，天主使他复活了，叫他显现出来，	⁴⁰But God raised him to life on the third day and let him manifest himself,
⁴¹不是给所有的百姓，而是给天主所预拣的见证人，就是给我们这些在他从死者中复活后，与他同食共饮的人。	⁴¹not to all the people, but to the witnesses that were chosen beforehand by God - to us who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from death.
⁴²他吩咐我们向百姓讲道，指证他就是天主所立的生者与死者的判官。	⁴²And he commanded us to preach to the people and to bear witness that he is the one appointed by God to judge the living and the dead.
⁴³一切先知都为他作证：凡信他的人，赖他的名字都要获得罪赦。」	⁴³All the prophets say of him, that everyone who believes in him has forgiveness of sins through his Name."
⁴⁴伯多禄还在讲这些话的时候，圣神降在所有听道的人身上。	⁴⁴Peter was still speaking when the Holy Spirit came upon all who listened to the Word.
⁴⁵那些受过割损与伯多禄同来的信徒，都惊讶圣神的恩惠也倾注在外邦人身上，	⁴⁵And the believers of Jewish origin who had come with Peter were amazed, "Why! God gives and pours the Holy Spirit on foreigners also!"
⁴⁶因为听见他们说各种语言，并颂扬天主。那时，伯多禄就发言说：	⁴⁶For indeed this happened: they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
⁴⁷「这些人既领受了圣神，和我们一样，谁能阻止他们不受水洗呢？」	⁴⁷Then Peter declared, "Can we refuse to baptize with water these people who have received the Holy Spirit, just as we have?"
⁴⁸遂吩咐人以耶稣基督的名给他们付洗。以后，他们求伯多禄再住了几天。	⁴⁸So he had them baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. After that they asked him to remain with them for some days.
