| 1以色列子民离开埃及国后，第三个月初一那一天，到了西乃旷野。 | 1Exactly two months after the Israelites had left Egypt, they arrived at the wilderness of Sinai. |
| 2他们从勒非丁起程，来到西乃旷野，就在旷野中安了营；以色列人在那座山前安了营。 | 2They arrived there coming from Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai. |
| 3梅瑟上到天主前，上主从山上召唤他说：「你要这样告诉雅各伯家，训示以色列子民说： | 3The Israelites camped there in front of the mountain, but Moses went up to God and Yahweh called to him from the mountain, saying, "This is what you are to say and to explain to the Israelites: |
| 4你们亲自见了我怎样对待了埃及人，怎样好似鹰将你们背在翅膀上，将你们带出来归属我。 | 4You have seen what I did to the Egyptians and how I carried you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself. |
| 5现在你们若真听我的话，遵守我的盟约，你们在万民中将成为我的特殊产业。的确，普世全属于我， | 5Now if you listen to me and keep my covenant, you shall be my very own possession among all the nations. For all the earth is mine, |
| 6但你们为我应成为司祭的国家，圣洁的国民。你应将这些话训示以色列子民。」 | 6but you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." And he added, "This is what you are to say to the people of Israel." |
| 7梅瑟就去召集百姓的长老，将上主吩咐他的那一切话，都在他们前说明了。 | 7So Moses went and summoned all the elders of the people and related to them all that Yahweh had commanded him to say. |
| 8众百姓一致回答说：「凡上主所吩咐的，我们全要作。」梅瑟遂将百姓的答复转达于上主。 | 8All the people responded with one voice, "All that Yahweh has said, we will do." Moses then brought back to Yahweh the people's response. |
| 9上主向梅瑟说：「我要在浓云中降到你前，叫百姓听见我与你谈话，使他们永远信服你。」梅瑟遂向上主呈报了百姓的答复。 | 9Yahweh spoke to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud so that the people may hear me speaking with you and trust you always." Then Moses related to Yahweh what the people had said. |
| 10上主向梅瑟说：「你到百姓那里，叫他们今天明天圣洁自己，洗净自己的衣服。 | 10Again Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go to the people and have them sanctified today and tomorrow; let them wash their garments |
| 11第三天都应准备妥当，因为第三天，上主要在百姓观望之下降到西乃山上。 | 11and be ready for the third day. For on the third day Yahweh will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. |
| 12你要给百姓在山周围划定界限说：应小心，不可上山，也不可触摸山脚；凡触摸那山的，应处死刑。 | 12You will fix a limit for the people round about, saying: 'Take care not to go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain will die. |
| 13谁也不可用手触摸那人，而应用石头砸死或用箭射死；不论是兽是人，都不得生存；号角响起的时候，他们才可上山。」 | 13No hand shall touch him but he will be stoned or shot down by arrows; be it man or beast he shall not live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds may some of them go up to the mountain." |
| 14梅瑟下山来到百姓那里，叫他们圣洁自己，洗净自己的衣服。 | 14Moses came down from the mountain to the people and purified them, and they washed their garments. |
| 15他向百姓说：「到第三天应准备妥当，不可接近女人。」 | 15He then said to the people, "Be ready in three days and abstain from sexual relations." |
| 16到了第三天早晨，山上雷电交作，浓云密布，角声齐鸣，此时在营中的百姓都战战兢兢。 | 16On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning and a dense cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast was heard. All the people in the camp trembled. |
| 17梅瑟叫百姓从营中出来迎接天主，他们都站在山下。 | 17Moses then made the people leave the camp to meet God and stand at the foot of the mountain. |
| 18此时西乃全山冒烟，因为上主在火中降到山上；冒出的烟像火窑的烟，全山猛烈震动。 | 18Mount Sinai was completely covered in smoke because Yahweh had come down in fire, and the smoke rose as from a furnace. The whole mountain shook violently, |
| 19角声越响越高；梅瑟遂开始说话，天主藉雷霆答复他。 | 19while the blast of the trumpet became louder and louder. Moses spoke and God replied in thunder. |
| 20上主降到西乃山顶上，召梅瑟上到山顶；梅瑟就上去了。 | 20When Yahweh had come down to the summit of Mount Sinai, God called Moses who went to the summit |
| 21上主向梅瑟说：「下去通告百姓：不可闯到上主面前观看，免得许多人死亡。 | 21where Yahweh said to him, "Go down and give this warning to the people, lest they rush to see Yahweh and many of them perish. |
| 22连那些接近上主的司祭们，也应圣洁自己，免得上主击杀他们。」 | 22Even the priests who come near Yahweh must purify themselves lest Yahweh break out against them." |
| 23梅瑟答复上主说：「百姓不能上西乃山，因你自己曾通告我们说：要在山的四周划定界限，也宣布这山是不可侵犯的。」 | 23Moses answered Yahweh, "The people cannot ascend Mount Sinai because you yourself ordered us to put limits around the mountain, and set it apart as holy." |
| 24上主向他说：「下去，你同亚郎一起上来，但司祭和百姓不可闯到上主前，免得我击杀他们。」 | 24Yahweh replied, "Go down and bring up Aaron with you, but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh or he will break out against them." |
| 25梅瑟便下到百姓那里，通知了他们。 | 25So Moses went down to the people and said to them... |
