¹百姓见梅瑟迟迟不下山，就聚集到亚郎跟前，对他说：「起来，给我们制造一尊神像，在我们前面引路，因为那领我们出埃及国的梅瑟，不知道遭遇了什么事。」	¹When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain they assembled around Aaron and said to him, "Come, make us gods to walk ahead of us; as for this Moses who brought us out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him."
²亚郎给他们说：「你们去摘下你们的妻子、儿女所佩戴的金耳环，给我送来。」	²And Aaron said to them, "Take the gold earrings from your wives, your sons and daughters and bring them to me."
³众百姓即将他们耳上的金环摘下，送到亚郎跟前。	³So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron.
⁴亚郎从他们手里接过来，制了一个模型，用来铸了一个牛像。他们遂说：「以色列，这就是领你出埃及国的天主。」	⁴He took what they gave him and with a graving tool made the gold into a molten calf. They then said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of Egypt."
⁵亚郎一见，就在牛犊前筑了一座祭坛，宣布说：「明日是上主的庆节。」	⁵Now, when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before the molten calf and cried out, "Tomorrow will be a feastday for Yahweh."
⁶次日清晨，他们起来，就奉献了全燔祭及和平祭；以后百姓坐下吃喝，起来玩乐。	⁶So next day they rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. They then sat down to eat and drink and got up to make merry.
⁷上主训示梅瑟说：「你下去！因为你从埃及国领出来的百姓败坏了。	⁷Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Go down at once, for your people, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.
⁸他们很快就离开了我给他们指示的道路，为自己铸了一个牛犊，朝拜牠，向牠祭献并且说：『以色列，这就是领你出埃及的天主。』」	⁸They have quickly turned from the way I commanded them and have made for themselves a molten calf; they have bowed down before it and sacrificed to it and said: 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you out of Egypt."
⁹上主又向梅瑟说：「我看这百姓，真是一个执拗的百姓！	⁹And Yahweh said to Moses, "I see that these people are a stiff-necked people.
¹⁰你且由我向他们发怒，消灭他们；我要使你成为一个大民族。」	¹⁰Now just leave me that my anger may blaze against them. I will destroy them, but of you I will make a great nation."
¹¹梅瑟求上主他的天主息怒说：「上主，你为什么要向你用大力，用强硬的手臂，由埃及国领出来的百姓发怒呢？	¹¹But Moses calmed the anger of Yahweh, his God, and said, "Why, O Yahweh, should your anger burst against your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with such great power and with a mighty hand?
¹²为什么要叫埃及人说：他是恶意领他们出来，要在山中杀死他们，由地面上绝灭他们呢？求你息怒，撤销要加于你百姓的灾祸。	¹²Let not the Egyptians say: 'Yahweh brought them out with evil intent, for he wanted to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth.' Turn away from the heat of your anger and do not bring disaster on your people.
¹³求你记念你的仆人亚巴郎、依撒格和以色列，你曾指著自己向他们起誓说：我要使你们的后裔，像天上的繁星那样多；我所许的那整个地方，必赐给你们的后裔，叫他们永远占有。」	¹³Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the promise you yourself swore: I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land I spoke about I will give to them as an everlasting inheritance."
¹⁴上主遂撤销了要加于百姓的灾祸。	¹⁴Yahweh then changed his mind and would not yet harm his people.
¹⁵梅瑟转身下山，手中拿着两块约版，版两面都写着字，前面后面都有字。	¹⁵Moses then returned and came down from the mountain carrying in his hand the two slabs of the Statement, slabs written on both sides, back and front.
¹⁶版是天主做的，字是天主写的，刻在版上。	¹⁶These slabs were the work of God and the writing graven on the slabs was the writing of God.
¹⁷若苏厄一听见百姓喧哗的声音，就对梅瑟说：「营里有战争的声音。」	¹⁷When Joshua heard the noise of the people who were shouting he said to Moses, "There is a sound of war in the camp."
¹⁸梅瑟回答说：「这不是战胜的歌声，也不是战败的吵声，我听见的是应和的歌声。」	¹⁸But Moses answered, "It is not a victory song, nor the cry of defeat that I hear, but the sound of singing."
¹⁹当梅瑟走近营幕的时候，见了那牛犊，看见人歌舞，遂大发愤怒，把两块石版由手中抛出，摔碎在山下。	¹⁹When he drew near to the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burst forth and he threw the slabs from his hands and shattered them against the base of the mountain.
²⁰随后拿过他们所造的牛犊，投在火中焚烧，捣成细末，撒在水面上，叫以色列子民喝。	²⁰Then he seized the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, grinding it into a powder that he scattered over the surface of the water, and this he made the Israelites drink.
²¹梅瑟对亚郎说：「这百姓对你作了什么，你竟使他们陷于重罪？」	²¹Moses said to Aaron, "What did these people do to you that you brought such a great sin on them?"
²²亚郎回答说：「我主，请不要生气！你知道这百姓倾向于恶。	²²And Aaron said, "Don't let your anger be roused. You know this people and how evil they are.
²³他们对我说：请给我们制一神像，在我们前面引路，因为那领我们出埃及国的梅瑟，不知道遭遇了什么事。	²³They said to me: 'Make us gods to go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him.'
²⁴我给他们说：谁有金子，就摘下来！他们遂给我送来。我把金子投在火中，这牛犊便出来了。」	²⁴I then said to them that whoever had gold was to give it over to me. I threw it in the fire and out came this calf!"
²⁵梅瑟见百姓这样放肆，──因为亚郎放纵了他们，成了敌人的笑柄；──	²⁵Moses saw that the people were out of control, for Aaron had let them run wild, to a point that would make them an easy prey for their opponents.
²⁶就站在营幕门口说：「凡属上主的，到我跟前来！」于是肋未的子孙聚到梅瑟前。	²⁶Then Moses stood at the gate of the camp and said, "All those for Yahweh, come to me." And all the sons of Levi rallied round him.
²⁷梅瑟向他们说：「上主，以色列的天主这样说：每人要把刀佩在腰间，在营中往来，从这门到那门，要杀自己的兄弟、朋友和亲人。」	²⁷Then he said to them, "This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel commands: Let each one carry a sword at his side. Go back and forth from door to door and don't hesitate to kill even your brothers, your companions and your relatives."
²⁸肋未的子孙就照梅瑟的吩咐作了，那一天百姓中被杀的约有三千人。	²⁸The Levites did what Moses had ordered and that day about three thousand men fell.
²⁹梅瑟说：「今天你们应接受奉事上主的圣职，因为你们每人牺牲了自己的儿子和兄弟，上主今日必赐福与你们。」	²⁹Moses then said, "From now on your hands are consecrated to Yahweh for each of you has been able to turn against his very sons and brothers. Because of this, Yahweh gives you today his blessing."
³⁰到了次日，梅瑟向百姓说：「你们犯了重罪，现在我要上到上主台前，也许我能为你们赎罪。」	³⁰The next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a very grave sin, but now I am going up to Yahweh; perhaps I will obtain pardon for your sin."
³¹梅瑟回到上主那里说：「唉！这百姓犯了重罪，为自己制造了金神像。	³¹So Moses went towards Yahweh and said, "Ah! This people has committed a very great sin; they made a god out of gold.
³²现在只求你赦免他们的罪，不然，就把我从你所记录的册子上抹去罢！」	³²And now please forgive their sin... if not, blot me out of the book you have written."
³³上主回答梅瑟说：「谁犯罪得罪我，我就把谁从我的册子上抹去。	³³Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot him out from my book.
³⁴现在你去领我的百姓到我吩咐你的地方去。看，我的使者在你前面引路。在我惩罚之日，我必惩罚他们的罪。」	³⁴Go now! Lead the people where I told you. My Angel will walk before you and on the day of punishment I will punish them for their sin."
³⁵以后上主打击了百姓，因他们敬拜了亚郎制造的牛犊。	³⁵And so Yahweh punished the people with a plague because of the calf Aaron had made for them.
