| 1上主向梅瑟说：「你和你从埃及国领出的百姓离开这里，上那地方去；关于此地，我曾誓许给亚巴郎、依撒格和雅各伯说：我要将此地赐给你的后裔。 | 1Yahweh said to Moses, "Go now! Leave this place, you and the people you brought out from the land of Egypt and go to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said: 'I will give it to your descendants.' |
| 2我要打发使者在你前面，我要驱逐客纳罕人、阿摩黎人、赫特人、培黎齐人、希威人和耶步斯人。 | 2I will send an Angel before you to drive out the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites. |
| 3你往流奶流蜜之地时，我不与你同行，因为你是个执拗的百姓，免得我在路上消灭你。」 | 3But I will not go with you to this land flowing with milk and honey, for you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way." |
| 4百姓一听这凶讯，都表示悲痛，没有人再穿戴装饰品。 | 4When the people heard these distressing words they were very sad and none of them put on any ornaments. |
| 5上主向梅瑟说：「你告诉以色列子民：你们是个执拗的百姓，我若与你同行，只一会儿，我必把你消灭。现在你把装饰品卸下，看我要怎样待你。」 | 5Yahweh then said to Moses, "Say to the sons of Israel: 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you, even for a moment, I would destroy you! Now, take off your orna-ments that I may know what I shall do to you." |
| 6以色列子民从离开曷勒布山，就卸去了装饰品。 | 6And so the Israelites gave up their ornaments before leaving Mount Horeb. |
| 7梅瑟往往将那帐幕支搭在营外，离营远些；他称此帐幕为「会幕」。凡求问天主的，要到营外的帐幕那里。 | 7Moses then took the Tent and pitched it for himself outside the camp, at a distance from it, and called it the Tent of Meeting. Whoever sought Yahweh would go out to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp. |
| 8每当梅瑟往会幕那里去的时候，众百姓都起来，每人站在自己帐幕门口，观望梅瑟直到他进入会幕。 | 8And when Moses went to the tent all the people would stand, each one at the entrance to his tent and keep looking towards Moses until he entered the tent. |
| 9当梅瑟进入会幕的时候，云柱降下，停在会幕门口，上主便同梅瑟谈话。 | 9Now, as soon as Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and remain at the entrance to the tent, while Yahweh spoke with Moses. |
| 10众百姓一见云柱停止在会幕门口，百姓就起来，俯伏在自己的帐幕门口。 | 10When all the people saw the pillar of cloud at the entrance to the tent, they would arise and worship, each one at the entrance to his own tent. |
| 11上主同梅瑟面对面地谈话，就如人同朋友谈话一样。梅瑟回营以后，他的侍从，一个年轻人，即农的儿子若苏厄总不离开会幕。 | 11Then Yahweh would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his neighbor, and then Moses would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua, son of Nun, would not leave the tent. |
| 12梅瑟对上主说：「看，你吩咐了我，叫我引领这百姓，但没有告诉我，你派谁与我同去。你还说过：我提名选了你，你在我眼中得了宠。 | 12Then Moses said to Yahweh, "You say to me: 'Lead this people up,' but you haven't told me who you will send with me and yet you have said that you know me by name and that I have found favor in your sight. |
| 13如果我真在你眼中得宠，求你把你的道路指示给我，叫我认识你，好在你眼中得宠。也请记得这民族是你的百姓。」 | 13And now if I have found favor in your sight, let me know your ways, that I may know you and so find favor in your sight. Look, this people is your own people." |
| 14上主回答说：「我必亲自去，使你获得安所。」 | 14Yahweh said, "My Face will go with you and I will give you rest." |
| 15梅瑟对上主说：「你若不亲自去，也别叫我们从这里上去。 | 15And Moses said, "If your Face does not come with us, do not take us from here. |
| 16人怎样知道我和你的百姓在你眼中得宠，岂不是因你与我们同行，而我和你的百姓有别于地面上所有的人民？」 | 16And how will anyone here know that you look kindly on me and my people? Will it not be because you go with us? In that way, I myself and your people will be distinguished from every other nation on the face of the earth." |
| 17上主回答说：「连你所求的事，我也要作，因为你在我眼中得了宠，我提名选了你。」 | 17Yahweh then said to Moses, "What you have said I will do, for I look kindly on you and I have known you by name." |
| 18梅瑟又说：「求你把你的荣耀显示给我。」 | 18Moses said, "Then let me see your Glory." |
| 19上主答说：「当我在你前呼喊「雅威」名号时，我要使我的一切美善在你面前经过。我要恩待的就恩待，要怜悯的就怜悯。」 | 19And He said, "I will make all my goodness pass before you and proclaim the name of Yahweh before you. For I am gracious to whom I want to be gracious and I am merciful to whom I want to be merciful." |
| 20又说：「我的面容你决不能看见，因为人看见了我，就不能再活了。」 | 20Then Yahweh said, "You cannot see my face because man cannot see me and live." |
| 21上主又说：「看，靠近我有个地方，你可站在那块磐石上。 | 21And he added, "See this place near me; you shall stand on the rock |
| 22当我的荣耀经过时，我把你放在磐石缝里，用我的手遮掩你，直到我过去。 | 22and when my Glory passes I will put you in a hollow of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. |
| 23当我缩回我的手时，你将看见我的背后，但我的面容，却无法看见。」 | 23Then I will take away my hand and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen." |
