| 1此后，梅瑟同亚郎去见法郎说：「以色列的天主雅威这样说：你应放我的百姓走，好叫他们在旷野里过节敬拜我。」 | 1After this Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel says: 'Let my people go that they may hold a feast for me in the desert." |
| 2法郎问说：「谁是雅威，我该听他的命，放以色列走？我不认识雅威，也不放以色列走。」 | 2Pharaoh replied, "Who is Yahweh that I should listen to his voice and let Israel go? I do not know Yahweh and I will not let Israel go." |
| 3他们回答说：「希伯来人的天主遇见了我们。请让我们走三天的路到旷野里，向上主我们的天主献祭，免得他用瘟疫刀兵击杀我们。」 | 3They then said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Allow us to make a three days' journey to the desert. There we shall offer sacrifices to Yahweh, our God, lest he punish us with the plague or the sword." |
| 4埃及王回答他们说：「梅瑟、亚郎啊！你们为什么妨碍百姓工作呢？去服你们的劳役罢！」 | 4The king of Egypt said to them, "Moses and Aaron, why do you take people away from their work? Get back to your tasks. |
| 5法郎又说：「现在他们比本地的人民还多，你们竟然叫他们歇工？」 | 5The people are now numerous and you are asking them to interrupt their work." |
| 6那一天法郎命令那些百姓中的监工和工头说： | 6That same day Pharaoh gave the following order to the taskmasters of the people and to the Israelite foremen, |
| 7「你们以后不要再像往日一样，给百姓做砖用的草稭，叫他们自己去拾草。 | 7"You will no longer supply the people with straw for making bricks. Let them go and find it themselves; |
| 8但你们仍向他们要往日所做的同样砖数，一点也不可减少，因为他们懒惰，所以才呐喊说：我们要去向我们的天主献祭。 | 8but you will exact from them the same number of bricks as before, not one less. They are lazy and that is why they are crying out to go and sacrifice to their God. |
| 9应给这些人加重工作，使他们只工作，而不听谎言。」 | 9Make the work harder for the people and pay no attention to their lies." |
| 10百姓中的监工头遂出去向百姓说：「法郎这样吩咐：我再不给你们草稭。 | 10The slave drivers and their Israelite foremen went out and said to the people, "Pharaoh will not give you any more straw. |
| 11你们看那里能找到草稭，就到那里去拾罢！但应有的工作一点也不可减少。」 | 11Go and get it yourselves wherever you can find it, but the amount of work done must be the same as before." |
| 12百姓就分散到埃及全境，拾取麦茎充当草稭。 | 12The people scattered throughout Egypt to gather stubble to use for straw. |
| 13监工催迫说：「你们每天应该完成当天的工作，像从前有草稭时一样。」 | 13The taskmasters kept pressing them, saying, "Complete the work required of you each day, as you did when you had straw." |
| 14法郎的监工责打他们所派出的以色列子民的工头说：「你们昨天今天为什么没有完成像前天所做的砖数呢？」 | 14The taskmasters beat the Israelite foremen they had placed over the people saying, "Why haven't your people completed the same amount of work as before?" |
| 15以色列子民的工头遂去向法郎诉苦说：「你为什么这样对待你的仆人们呢？ | 15The Israelite foremen complained to Pharaoh saying, "Why do you treat us like this? |
| 16不给你仆人们草稭，只对我们说：做砖罢！原是你人民的错，你却来打你的仆人们。」 | 16We are given no straw and yet we are told to make bricks. We are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people." |
| 17法郎回答说：「你们太懒惰了！所以说：让我们去祭献上主！ | 17Pharaoh replied, "Lazy! You are lazy, and that is why you ask to go and sacrifice to Yahweh. |
| 18现在都快去作工！决不供给你们草稭，但是砖却该如数交上。」 | 18Go back to work. You will not be given straw but you will produce the same number of bricks." |
| 19以色列子民的工头因所出的命令说：「你们每天应做的砖数，不得减少。」，便知自己更陷于困难中。 | 19The Israelite foremen felt they were in great trouble. |
| 20工头们由法郎那里出来，遇见梅瑟和亚郎正等候他们， | 20They met Moses and Aaron who were waiting for them |
| 21就对他们说：「愿上主鉴察惩罚你们！你们使我们在法郎和他臣仆眼中成了可恨的，就好像把刀交在他们手中，宰杀我们。」 | 21and said to them, "May Yahweh look upon you and judge you, because you have made us hateful to Pharaoh and his ministers, and placed in his hand a sword to kill us." |
| 22梅瑟回到上主那里说：「吾主，你为什么折磨这百姓？为什么偏偏打发我呢？ | 22Moses then turned to Yahweh and said, "O Lord! Why have you treated your people so badly? Why did you send me? |
| 23自从我到法郎那里，奉你的名讲话以来，他更加折磨这百姓，而你也没有拯救你的百姓。」 | 23From the time I spoke to Pharaoh in your name, he has brought trouble on this people and you have done nothing to rescue them!" |
