| 2上主的话传给他，是在阿孟的儿子约史雅为犹大王执政第十三年； | 2The word of Yahweh came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah. |
| 3以后传给他，是在约史雅的儿子约雅金为犹大王，直到约史雅的儿子漆德克雅为犹大王第十一年年底，即直到是年五月，耶路撒冷居民被掳去充军时为止。 | 3It came again during the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah. In the fifth month of that year, the inhabitants of Jerusalem were taken into exile. |

| 5「我还没有在母腹内形成你以前，我已认识了你；在你还没有出离母胎以前，我已祝圣了你，选定了你作万民的先知。」 | 5"Even before I formed you in the womb I have known you; even before you were born I had set you apart, and appointed you a prophet to the nations!" |
| 6我回答说：「哎呀！我主上主！你看，我还太年轻，不会说话。」 | 6I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! I do not know how to speak; I am still young!" |
| 7上主对我说：「你别说：我太年轻，因为我派你到那里去，你就应到那里去；我命你说甚么，你就应说甚么。 | 7But Yahweh replied, "Do not say; 'I am still young', for now you will go whatever be the mission I am entrusting to you, and you will speak of whatever I command you to say. |
| 8你不要害怕他们，因为有我与你同在，保护你──上主的断语。」 | 8Do not be afraid of them, for I will be with you to protect you - it is Yahweh who speaks!" |
| 9此后，上主伸出手来，触摸我的口，对我说；「看，我将我的话放在你口中； | 9Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now I have put my words in your mouth. |
| 10看，我今天委派你对万民和列国，执行拔除、破坏、毁灭、推翻、建设和栽培的任务。」 | 10See! Today I give you authority over nations and over kingdoms to uproot and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." |
| 11上主的话传给我说：「耶肋米亚！你看见甚么？」我回答说：「我看见一根杏树枝。」 | 11A word of Yahweh came to me again, "Jeremiah what do you see?" I said, "I see the branch of a watching tree." |
| 12上主对我说：「你看的对，因为我要警醒，看我的话怎样实现。」 | 12And Yahweh said to me, "You are right. I too am watching to fulfill my word." |
| 13上主的话二次传给我说：「你看见甚么？」我回答说：「我看见一个沸腾的锅，它的口由北面倾倒过来。」 | 13The word of Yahweh came to me a second time, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a boiling caldron coming from the north and it is tilted towards this direction." Then Yahweh said to me, |
| 14上主对我说：「灾祸将由北方烧起，一直烧到这地上的一切居民。 | 14"From the north disaster will boil down on all the people of this land. |
| 15看啊，我必召集北方的一切国家──上主的断语──叫各国前来，在耶路撒冷城门口，在城墙四周以及犹大各城市旁，建立自己的宝座。 | 15I am calling all the kingdoms of the north - it is Yahweh who speaks. Each of them will come and encamp at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem; against all its surrounding walls and against all the cities of Judah. |
| 16我要向各城市的人民宣告我的判决，惩罚他们的一切罪恶，因为他们离弃我，向别的神祇献香，崇拜了他们手制的作品。 | 16I will pass judgment on my people because of the evil they do in forsaking me; they have burned incense to foreign gods and worshipped gods their hands have made. |
| 17至于你，你要束上腰，起来向他们传示我命令你的一切。在他们面前，你不要畏惧，免得我在他们面前令你畏惧。 | 17But you, get ready for action; stand up and say to them all that I command you. Be not scared of them or I will scare you in their presence! |
| 18看啊，我今天使你成为坚城、铜墙、铁壁，以对抗犹大君王和首领，司祭和当地的人民。 | 18See, I will make you a fortified city, a pillar of iron with walls of bronze, against all the nations, against the kings and princes of Judah, against the priests and the people of the land. |
| 19他们要攻击你，却不能得胜你，因为有我与你同在，协助你──上主的断语。」 | 19They will fight against you but shall not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue you - it is Yahweh who speaks." |
