| 1「我给你们讲论了这些事，免得你们的信仰受动摇。 | 1I tell you all this to keep you from stumbling and falling away. |
| 2人要把你们逐出会堂；并且时候必到，凡杀害你们的，还以为是尽恭敬天主的义务。 | 2They will put you out of the Jewish communities. Still more, the hour is coming when anyone who kills you will claim to be serving God; |
| 3他们这样作，是因为没有认识父，也没有认识我。 | 3they will do this because they have not known the Father or me. |
| 4我给你们讲论了这一切，是为叫你们在这一切发生时，想起我早就告诉了你们这一切。这些事起初我没有告诉你们，因为我还与你们同在。」 | 4I tell you all these things now so that when the time comes you may remember that I told you. I did not tell you about this in the beginning because I was with you. |
| 5「现在我就往派遣我者那里去，你们中却没有人问我：你往那里去？ | 5But now I am going to the One who sent me and none of you asks me where I am going; |
| 6只因我给你们说了这话，你们就满心忧闷。 | 6instead you are overcome with grief because of what I have said. |
| 7然而，我将真情告诉你们：我去为你们有益，因为我若不去，护慰者便不会到你们这里来；我若去了，就要派遣他到你们这里来。 | 7Indeed believe me: It is better for you that I go away, because as long as I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go away, it is to send him to you, |
| 8当他来到时，就要指证世界关于罪恶、正义和审判所犯的错误： | 8and when he comes, he will vindicate the truth in face of the world with regard to sin, to the way of righteousness, and to the Judgment. |
| 9关于罪恶，因为他们没有信从我； | 9What has been the sin? They did not believe in me. |
| 10关于正义，因为我往父那里去，而你们再见不到我； | 10What is the way of righteousness? I am on the way to the Father, meanwhile you will not see me. |
| 11关于审判，因为这世界的首领已被判断了。 | 11What Judgment? The Ruler of this world has himself been condemned. |
| 12我本来还有许多事要告诉你们，然而你们现在不能担负。 | 12I still have many things to tell you, but you cannot bear them now. |
| 13当那一位真理之神来时，他要把你们引入一切真理，因为他不凭自己讲论，只把他所听到的讲出来，并把未来的事传告给你们。 | 13When he, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into the whole truth. He has nothing to say of himself but he will speak of what he hears, and he will tell you of the things to come. |
| 14他要光荣我，因为他要把由我所领受的，传告给你们。 | 14He will take what is mine and make it known to you; in doing this, he will glorify me. |
| 15凡父所有的一切，都是我的；为此我说：他要由我领受而传告给你们。」 | 15All that the Father has is mine; because of this I have just told you, that the Spirit will take what is mine and make it known to you." |
| 16「只有片时，你们就看不见我了；再过片时，你们又要看见我。」 | 16A little while and you will see me no more; and then a little while, and you will see me." |
| 17于是他门徒中有几个彼此说：「他给我们所说的：『只有片时，你们就看不见我了；再过片时，你们又要看见我。』还有『我往父那里去』，是什么意思？」 | 17Some of the disciples wondered, "What does he mean by: 'A little while and you will not see me, and then a little while and you will see me'? And why did he say: 'I go to the Father'?" |
| 18又说：「他说的这『只有片时』，究竟有什么意思？我们不明白他讲什么。」 | 18And they said to one another, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand." |
| 19耶稣看出他们愿意问他，就对他们说：「你们不是彼此询问我所说的：『只有片时，你们就看不见我了；再过片时，你们又要看见我』的话吗？ | 19Jesus knew that they wanted to question him; so he said to them, "You are puzzled because I told you that in a little while you will see me no more, and then a little while later you will see me. |
| 20我实实在在告诉你们：你们要痛哭，哀号，世界却要欢乐；你们将要忧愁，但你们的忧愁却要变为喜乐。 | 20Truly, I say to you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. |
| 21妇女生产的时候，感到忧苦，因为她的时辰来到了；既生了孩子，因了喜乐再不记忆那苦楚了，因为一个人已生在世上了。 | 21A woman in childbirth is in distress because her time is at hand. But after the child is born, she no longer remembers her suffering because of such great joy: a human being is born into the world. |
| 22如今，你们固然感到忧愁，但我要再见到你们，那时，你们心里要喜乐，并且你们的喜乐谁也不能从你们夺去。 | 22You feel sorrowful now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice. And no one will take your joy from you. |
| 23到那一天，你们什么也不必问我了。我实实在在告诉你们：你们因我的名无论向父求什么，他必赐给你们。 | 23When that day comes you will not ask me anything. Truly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my Name, he will give you. |
| 24直到现在，你们没有因我的名求什么；求罢！必会得到，好使你们的喜乐得以圆满。」 | 24So far you have not asked in my Name; ask and receive that your joy may be full. |
| 25「我用比喻对你们讲了这一切；但时候来到，我不再用比喻对你们说话，而要明明地向你们传报有关父的一切。 | 25I taught you all this in veiled language, but the time is coming when I shall no longer speak in veiled language, but will tell you plainly of the Father. |
| 26在那一天，你们要因我的名祈求，我不向你们说：我要为你们求父， | 26When that day comes, you will ask in my Name and it will not be for me to ask the Father for you, |
| 27因为父自己爱你们，因你们爱了我，且相信我出自天主。 | 27for the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and you believe that I came from the Father. |
| 28我出自父，来到了世界上；我又离开世界，往父那里去。」 | 28As I came from the Father and have come into the world, so I am leaving the world and going to the Father." |
| 29他的门徒便说：「看，现在你明明地讲论，不用什么比喻了。 | 29The disciples said to him, "Now you are speaking plainly and not in veiled language! |
| 30现在，我们晓得你知道一切，不需要有人问你；因此，我们相信你是出自天主。」 | 30Now we see that you know all things, even before we question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God." |
| 31耶稣回答说：「现在你们相信吗？ | 31Jesus answered them, "You say that you believe! |
| 32看，时辰要来，且已来到，你们要被驱散，各人归各人的地方去，撇下我独自一个，其实我并不是独自一个，因为有父与我同 在。 | 32The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. |
| 33我给你们讲了这一切，是要你们在我内得到平安。在世界上你们要受苦难；然而你们放心，我已战胜了世界。」 | 33I have told you all this, so that in me you may have peace. You will have trouble in the world; but, courage! I have overcome the world." |
