| 1耶稣上了橄榄山。 | 1As for Jesus, he went to the Mount of Olives. |
| 2清晨他又来到圣殿，众百姓都到他跟前来，他便坐下教训他们。 | 2At daybreak Jesus appeared in the Temple again. All the people came to him, and he sat down and began to teach them. |
| 3那时，经师和法利塞人带来了一个犯奸淫时被捉住的妇人，叫她站在中间， | 3Then the teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought in a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They made her stand in front of everyone. |
| 4便向耶稣说：「师傅！这妇人是正在犯奸淫时被捉住的， | 4"Master," they said, "this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. |
| 5在法律上，梅瑟命令我们该用石头砸死这样的妇人；可是，你说什么呢？」 | 5Now the Law of Moses orders that such women be stoned to death; but you, what do you say?" |
| 6他们说这话，是要试探耶稣，好能控告他；耶稣却弯下身去，用指头在地上画字。 | 6They said this to test Jesus, in order to have some charge against him. Jesus bent down and started writing on the ground with his finger. |
| 7因为他们不断地追问，他便直起身来，向他们说：「你们中间谁没有罪，先向她投石罢！」 | 7And as they continued to ask him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone among you who has no sin be the first to throw a stone at her." |
| 8他又弯下身去，在地上写字。 | 8And he bent down again, writing on the ground. |
| 9他们一听这话，就从年老的开始到年幼的，一个一个地都溜走了，只留下耶稣一人和站在那里的妇人。 | 9As a result of these words, they went away, one by one, starting with the elders, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. |
| 10耶稣遂直起身来向她说：「妇人！他们在那里呢？没有人定你的罪吗？」 | 10Then Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" |
| 11她说：「主！没有人。」耶稣向她说：「我也不定你的罪；去罢！从今以后，不要再犯罪了！」 | 11She replied, "No one." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go away and don't sin again." |
| 12耶稣又向众人讲说：「我是世界的光；跟随我的，决不在黑暗中行走，必有生命的光。」 | 12Jesus spoke to them again, "I am the Light of the world; the one who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have light and life." |
| 13法利塞人于是对他说：「你为你自己作证，你的证据，是不可凭信的。」 | 13The Pharisees replied, "Now you are speaking on your own behalf, your testimony is worthless." |
| 14耶稣回答说：「我即便为我自己作证，我的证据，是可凭信的，因为我知道：我从那里来，往那里去；你们却不知道：我从那里来，或往那里去。 | 14Then Jesus said, "Even though I bear witness to myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I have come from and where I am going. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going. |
| 15你们只凭肉眼判断，我却不判断任何人； | 15You judge by human standards; as for me, I don't judge anyone. |
| 16即使我判断，我的判断，仍是真实的，因为我不是独自一个，而是有我，还有派遣我来的父。 | 16But if I had to judge, my judgment would be valid for I am not alone: the Father who sent me is with me. |
| 17在你们的法律上也记载着：两个人的作证，是可凭信的。 | 17In your Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is valid; |
| 18今有我为我自己作证，也有派遣我的父，为我作证。」 | 18so I am bearing witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me." |
| 19他们便问他说：「你的父在那里？」耶稣答复说：「你们不认识我，也不认识我的父；若是你们认识了我，也就认识我的父了。」 | 19They asked him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You don't know me or my Father; if you knew me, you would know my Father as well." |
| 20这些话是耶稣于圣殿施教时，在银库院里所讲的。谁也没有捉拿他，因为他的时辰还没有到。 | 20Jesus said these things when he was teaching in the Temple area, in the place where they received the offerings. No one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. |
| 21那时，耶稣又向他们说：「我去了，你们要寻找我，你们必要死在你们的罪恶中；我所去的地方，你们不能去。」 | 21Again Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and though you look for me, you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come." |
| 22犹太人便说：「他说：我所去的地方，你们不能去；莫非他要自杀吗？」 | 22The Jews wondered, "Why does he say that we can't come where he is going? Will he kill himself?" |
| 23耶稣向他们说：「你们是出于下，我却是出于上；你们是出于这个世界，我却不是出于这个世界。 | 23But Jesus said, "You are from below and I am from above; you are of this world and I am not of this world. |
| 24因此，我对你们说过：你们要死在你们的罪恶中。的确，你们若不相信我就是那一位，你们必要死在你们的罪恶中。」 | 24That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. And you shall die in your sins unless you believe that I am He." |
| 25于是，他们问耶稣说：「你到底是谁？」耶稣回答他们说：「难道从起初我没有对你们讲论过吗？ | 25They asked him, "Who are you?"; and Jesus said, "Just what I have told you from the beginning. |
| 26对你们我有许多事要说，要谴责；但是派遣我来者是真实的；我由他听来的，我就讲给世界听。」 | 26I have much to say about you and much to condemn; but the One who sent me is truthful and everything I learned from him, I proclaim to the world." |
| 27他们不明白他是在给他们讲论父。 | 27They didn't understand that Jesus was speaking to them about the Father. |
| 28耶稣遂说：「当你们高举了人子以后，你们便知道我就是那一位。我由我自己不作什么；我所讲论的，都是依照父所教训我的。 | 28So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He and that I do nothing of myself, but I say just what the Father taught me. |
| 29派遣我来者与我在一起，他没有留下我独自一个，因为我常作他所喜悦的事。」 | 29He who sent me is with me and has not left me alone; because I always do what pleases him." |
| 30当耶稣讲这些话时，许多人便信了他。 | 30As Jesus spoke like this, many believed in him. |
| 31于是，耶稣对那些信他的犹太人说：「你们如果固守我的话，就确是我的门徒， | 31Jesus went on to say to the Jews who believed in him: "You will be my true disciples if you keep my word. |
| 32也会认识真理，而真理必会使你们获得自由。」 | 32Then you will know the truth and the truth will make you free." |
| 33他们回答说：「我们是亚巴郎的后裔，从未给任何人做过奴隶；怎么你说：你们要成为自由的呢？」 | 33They answered him, "We are the descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves of anyone. What do you mean by saying: You will be free?" |
| 34耶稣答复说：「我实实在在告诉你们：凡是犯罪的，就是罪恶的奴隶。 | 34Jesus answered them, "Truly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave. |
| 35奴隶不能永远住在家里，儿子却永远居住。 | 35But the slave doesn't stay in the house forever; the son stays forever. |
| 36那么，如果天主子使你们自由了，你们的确是自由的。 | 36So, if the Son makes you free, you will be really free. |
| 37我知道你们是亚巴郎的后裔，你们却图谋杀害我，因为你们容纳不下我的话。 | 37I know that you are the descendants of Abraham; yet you want to kill me because my word finds no place in you. |
| 38我说的，是我在父那里所看见的；而你们行的，却是从你们的父亲那里所学习的。」 | 38For my part I speak of what I have seen in the Father's presence, but you do what you have learned from your father." |
| 39他们回答说：「我们的父亲亚巴郎。」耶稣对他们说：「假如你们是亚巴郎的子女，你们就该作亚巴郎所作的事。 | 39They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Then Jesus said, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do as Abraham did. |
| 40如今，你们竟然图谋杀害我──这个给你们说出从天主那里所听到的真理的人──亚巴郎却没有作过这样的事。 | 40But now you want to kill me, the one who tells you the truth - the truth that I have learned from God. That is not what Abraham did; |
| 41你们正作你们父亲的事业。」他们向他说：「我们不是由淫乱生的，我们只有一个父亲：就是天主。」 | 41what you are doing are the works of your father." The Jews said to him, "We are not illegitimate children; we have one Father, God." |
| 42耶稣回答说：「假如天主是你们的父亲，你们必爱我，因为我是由天主出发而来的，并不是由我自己来的，而是那一位派遣了我。 | 42Jesus replied, "If God were your Father you would love me, for I came forth from God, and I am here. And I didn't come by my own decision, but it was he himself who sent me. |
| 43为什么你们不明白我的讲论呢？无非是你们不肯听我的话。 | 43Why do you not understand my teaching? It is because you cannot bear my message. |
| 44你们是出于你们的父亲魔鬼，并愿意追随你们父亲的欲望。从起初，他就是杀人的凶手，不站在真理上，因为在他内没有真理；他几时撒谎，正出于他的本性，因为他是撒谎者，而且又是撒谎者的父亲。 | 44The father you spring from is the devil and you will carry out the evil wishes of your father, who has been a murderer from the beginning. He didn't uphold the truth for, in him, there is no truth; and now, when he speaks for himself, he lies. He is a liar and the father of lies. |
| 45至于我，因为我说真理，你们却不信我。 | 45Now I speak the truth and you don't believe me. |
| 46你们中谁能指证我有罪？若是我说真理，为什么你们却不信我 呢？ | 46Which of you could find anything false in me? Then, if I speak the truth, why do you not believe me? |
| 47出于天主的，必听天主的话；你们所以不听，因为你们不是出于天主。」 | 47He who is of God hears the words of God; you don't hear because you are not of God." |
| 48犹太人遂向他说：「我们说你是个撒玛黎雅人，并附有魔鬼，岂不正对吗？」 | 48The Jews retorted, "So we are right in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon." |
| 49耶稣答复说：「我没有附魔，我只是尊敬我的父，你们却侮辱我。 | 49Jesus said, "I am not possessed, and you try to shame me when I give honor to my Father. |
| 50然而，我不寻求我的光荣，有为我寻求而行判断的一位。 | 50I don't care about my own glory; there is One who cares for me and he will be the judge. |
| 51我实实在在告诉你们：谁如果遵行我的话，永远见不到死亡。」 | 51Truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never experience death." |
| 52犹太人向他说：「现在我们知道：你附有魔鬼；亚巴郎和先知都死了；你却说：谁如果遵行我的话，永远尝不到死味。 | 52The Jews replied, "Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died and the prophets as well, but you say: 'Whoever keeps my word will never experience death.' Who do you claim to be? |
| 53难道你比我们的父亲亚巴郎还大吗？他死了，先知们也死了。你把你自己当作什么人呢？」 | 53Do you claim to be greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets also died." |
| 54耶稣答复说：「我如果光荣我自己，我的光荣算不了什么；那光荣我的，是我的父，就是你们所称的『我们的天主』。 | 54Then Jesus said, "If I were to praise myself, it would count for nothing. But he who gives glory to me is the Father, the very one you claim as your God, |
| 55你们不认识他，我却认识他；我若说我不认识他，我便像你们一样是个撒谎者；但是，我认识他，也遵守他的话。 | 55although you don't know him. I know him and if I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I know him and I keep his word. |
| 56你们的父亲亚巴郎曾欢欣喜乐地企望看到我的日子，他看见了，极其高兴。」 | 56As for Abraham, your ancestor, he looked forward to the day when I would come; and he rejoiced when he saw it." |
| 57犹太人就对他说：「你还没有五十岁，就见过亚巴郎吗？」 | 57The Jews then said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?" |
| 58耶稣回答说：「我实实在在告诉你们：在亚巴郎出现以前，我就有。」 | 58And Jesus said "Truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." |
| 59他们就拿起石头来要向他投去；耶稣却隐没了，从圣殿里出去了。 | 59They then picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and left the Temple. |
