| 1耶稣前行时，看见了一个生来瞎眼的人。 | 1As Jesus walked along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. |
| 2他的门徒就问他说：「辣彼，谁犯了罪？是他，还是他的父母，竟使他生来瞎眼呢？」 | 2His disciples asked him, "Master, was he born blind because of a sin of his, or of his parents?" |
| 3耶稣答复说：「也不是他犯了罪，也不是他的父母，而是为叫天主的工作，在他身上显扬出来。 | 3Jesus answered, "Neither was it for his own sin nor for his parents'. He was born blind so that God's power might be shown in him. |
| 4趁着白天，我们应做派遣我来者的工作；黑夜来到，就没有人能工作了。 | 4While it is day we must do the work of the One who sent me; for the night will come when no one can work. |
| 5当我在世界上的时候，我是世界的光。」 | 5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." |
| 6耶稣说了这话以后，便吐唾沫在地上，用唾沫和了些泥，把泥抹在瞎子的眼上， | 6As Jesus said this, he made paste with spittle and clay and rubbed it on the eyes of the blind man. |
| 7对他说：「去，到史罗亚水池里洗洗罢！」──史罗亚解说「被派遣的」──瞎子去了，洗了，回来就看见了。 | 7Then he said, "Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam." (This name means sent.) So he went and washed and came back able to see. |
| 8于是，邻居和那些素来曾见他讨饭的人，就说：「这不那曾坐着讨饭的人么？」 | 8His neighbors and all the people who used to see him begging, wondered. They said, "Isn't this the beggar who used to sit here?" |
| 9有的说：「就是这人」，有的说：「不，是另一个很相似他的人。」那人却说：「就是我。」他们问他说：「你的眼睛究竟是怎样开的呢？」 | 9Some said, "It's the one." Others said, "No, but he looks like him." But the man himself said, "I am the one." |
| 10他们问他说：「你的眼睛究竟是怎样开的呢？」 | 10Then they asked, "How is it that your eyes were opened?" |
| 11他答复说：「名叫耶稣的那个人，和了些泥，抹在我的眼上，给我说：你往史罗亚去洗洗罢；我去了，洗了，就看见了。」 | 11And he answered, "The man called Jesus made a mud paste, put it on my eyes and said to me: 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went, and washed, and I could see." |
| 12他们又问他说：「那个人在那里？」他说：「我不知道。」 | 12They asked, "Where is he?" and the man answered, "I don't know." |
| 13他们便将先前瞎眼的人，领到法利塞人那里。 | 13The people brought the man who had been blind to the Pharisees. |
| 14耶稣和泥开他眼睛的那天，正是安息日。 | 14Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made mud paste and opened his eyes. |
| 15于是，法利塞人又诘问他怎样看见了。那人就向他们说：「他把泥放在我的眼上，我洗了，就看见了。」 | 15The Pharisees asked him again, "How did you recover your sight?" And he said, "He put paste on my eyes, and I washed, and now I see." |
| 16法利塞人中有的说：「这人不是从天主来的，因为他不遵守安息日。」有的却说：「一个罪人怎能行这样的奇迹？」他们中间便发生了纷争。 | 16Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he works on the sabbath"; but others wondered, "How can a sinner perform such miraculous signs?" They were divided |
| 17于是，他们又问瞎子说：「对于那开了你眼睛的人，你说什么呢？」瞎子说：「他是一位先知。」 | 17and they questioned the blind man again, "What do you think of this man who opened your eyes?" And he answered, "He is a prophet." |
| 18可是，犹太人不肯相信他先是瞎子而后看见了，等到叫了复明者的父母来， | 18After all this, the Jews refused to believe that the man had been blind and had recovered his sight; so they called his parents |
| 19问他们说：「这是你们的儿子么？你们说他生来就瞎眼么？怎么他现在竟看见了呢？」 | 19and asked them, "Is this your son? You say that he was born blind, how is it that he now sees?" |
| 20他的父母答复说：「我们知道这是我们的儿子，也生来就瞎。 | 20The parents answered, "He really is our son and he was born blind; |
| 21如今他究竟怎么看见了，我们却不知道；或者谁开了他的眼睛，我们也不知道。你们问他罢！他已经成年，会说自己的事了。」 | 21but how it is that he now sees, we don't know, neither do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him, he is old enough. Let him speak for himself." |
| 22他的父母因为害怕犹太人，才这样说，因为犹太人早已议定：谁若承认耶稣是默西亚，就必被逐出会堂。 | 22The parents said this because they feared the Jews who had already agreed that whoever confessed Jesus to be the Christ was to be expelled. |
| 23为此，他的父母说：他已经成年，你们问他罢！ | 23Because of this his parents said, "He is old enough, ask him." |
| 24于是法利塞人再把那先前瞎眼的人叫过来，向他说：「归光荣于天主罢！我们知道这人是个罪人。」 | 24So a second time the Pharisees called the man who had been blind, and they said to him, "Tell us the truth; we know that this man is a sinner." |
| 25那人回答说：「他是不是罪人，我不知道；有一件事我知道：我曾是个瞎子，现在我却看见了。」 | 25He replied, "I don't know whether he is a sinner or not; I only know that I was blind and now I see." |
| 26他们又问他说：「他给你作了什么？怎样开了你的眼睛？」 | 26They said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?" |
| 27他回答说：「我已经告诉了你们，你们不听；为什么又愿意听呢？莫非你们也愿意做他的门徒么？」 | 27He replied, "I have told you already and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?" |
| 28他们辱骂他说：「你去做他的门徒好了！我们是梅瑟的门徒。 | 28Then they started to insult him. "Become his disciple yourself! We are disciples of Moses. |
| 29我们知道：天主曾给梅瑟说过话；至于这人，我们不知道他是从那里来的。」 | 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man we don't know where he comes from." |
| 30那人回答说：「这真奇怪！你们不知道他是从那里来的，他却开了我的眼睛。 | 30The man replied, "It is amazing that you don't know where the man comes from, and yet he opened my eyes! |
| 31我们都晓得天主不俯听罪人，只俯听那恭敬天主，并承行他旨意的人。 | 31We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone honors God and does his will, God listens to him. |
| 32自古以来从未听说：有人开了生来就是瞎子的眼睛。 | 32Never, since the world began, has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person who was born blind. |
| 33这人若不是由天主来的，他什么也不能作。」 | 33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." |
| 34他们却向他说：「你整个生于罪恶中，竟来教训我们？」便把他赶出去了。 | 34They answered him, "You were born a sinner and now you teach us!" And they expelled him. |
| 35耶稣听说他们把他赶出去了，后来遇见了他，就给他说：「你信人子么？」 | 35Jesus heard that they had expelled him. He found him and said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" |
| 36那人便回答说：「主，是谁，好使我去信他呢？」 | 36He answered, "Who is he, that I may believe in him?" |
| 37耶稣对他说：「你已看见他了，和你讲话的就是！」 | 37Jesus said, "You have seen him and he is speaking to you. |
| 38他遂说道：「主，我信。」遂俯伏朝拜了耶稣。 | 38He said, "Lord, I believe"; and he worshiped him. |
| 39耶稣遂说：「我是为了判别，才到这世界上来，叫那些看不见的，看得见；叫那些看得见的，反而成为瞎子。」 | 39Jesus said, "I came into this world to carry out a judgment: Those who do not see shall see, and those who see shall become blind." |
| 40有些和他在一起的法利塞人，一听了这话，就说：「难道我们也是瞎子么？」 | 40Some Pharisees stood by and asked him, "So we are blind?" |
| 41耶稣回答说：「你们如果是瞎子，就没有罪了；但你们如今说：我们看得见，你们的罪恶便存留下了。」 | 41And Jesus answered, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty. Now you say: 'We see'; this is the proof of your sin." |
