| 1德敖斐罗钧座：关于在我们中间所完成的事蹟，已有许多人，依照那些自始亲眼见过，并为真道服役的人所传给我们的，着手编成了记述，我也从起头仔细访查了一切，遂立意按着次第给你写出来， | 1Several people have set themselves to relate the events that have taken place among us, |
| 2为使你认清给你所讲授的道理，正确无误。 | 2as they were told by the first witnesses who later became ministers of the Word. |
| 3在犹太王黑落德的时候，阿彼雅班中有一位司祭名叫匝加利亚，他的妻子是出于亚郎的后代，名叫依撒伯尔。 | 3After I myself had carefully gone over the whole story from the beginning, it seemed right for me to give you, Theophilus, an orderly account, |
| 4二人在天主前是义人，都照上主的一切诫命和礼规行事，无可指摘。 | 4so that your Excellency may know the truth of all you have been taught. |
| 5但是，他们没有孩子，因为依撒伯尔素不生育，两人又都上了年纪。 | 5In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there lived a priest named Zechariah, belonging to the priestly clan of Abiah. Elizabeth, Zechariah's wife, also belonged to a priestly family. |
| 6正逢匝加利亚轮着他的班次，在天主前尽司祭的职务时， | 6Both of them were upright in the eyes of God and lived blamelessly in accordance with all the laws and commands of the Lord, |
| 7按着司祭的常例，他抽中了签，得进上主的圣所献香。 | 7but they had no child. Elizabeth could not have any and now they were both very old. |
| 8献香的时候，众百姓都在外面祈祷。 | 8Now, while Zechariah and those with him were fulfilling their office, |
| 9有一位上主的天使站在香坛右边显现给他。 | 9it fell to him by lot, according to the custom of the priests, to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and burn incense. |
| 10匝加利亚一见，惊惶失措，害怕起来； | 10At the time of offering incense all the people were praying outside; |
| 11但天使向他说：「匝加利亚，不要害怕！因为你的祈祷已蒙应允，你的妻子依撒伯尔要给你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫若翰。 | 11it was then that an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. |
| 12你必要喜乐欢跃，许多人也要因他的诞生而喜乐， | 12On seeing the angel, Zechariah was deeply troubled and fear took hold of him. |
| 13因为他在上主面前将是伟大的，淡酒浓酒他都不喝，而且，他还在母胎中就要充满圣神； | 13But the angel said to him, "Don't be afraid, Zechariah, be assured that your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son and you shall name him John. |
| 14他要使许多以色列子民转向上主，他们的天主； | 14He will bring joy and gladness to you and many will rejoice at his birth. |
| 15他要以厄里亚的精神和能力，在他前面先行，使为父的心转向儿子，使悖逆者转向义人的心意，并为上主准备一个善良的百姓。」 | 15This son of yours will be great in the eyes of the Lord. Listen: he shall never drink wine or strong drink, but he will be filled with holy spirit even from his mother's womb. |
| 16匝加利亚遂向天使说：「我凭着什么能知道这事呢？因为我已经老了，我的妻子也上了年纪。」 | 16Through him many of the people of Israel will turn to the Lord their God. |
| 17天使回答说：「我是站在天主面前的加俾额尔，奉命来向你说话，报给你这个喜讯。 | 17He himself will open the way to the Lord with the spirit and power of the prophet Elijah; he will reconcile fathers and children, and lead the disobedient to wisdom and righteousness, in order to make ready for the Lord a people prepared." |
| 18看，你必成为哑吧，不能说话，直到这些事成就的那一天，因为你没有相信我的话；但我的话届时必要应验。」 | 18Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I believe this? I am an old man and my wife is elderly, too." |
| 19百姓等候匝加利亚，都奇怪他滞留在圣所内。 | 19The angel replied, "I am Gabriel, who stand before God, and I am the one sent to speak to you and bring you this good news! My words will come true in their time. |
| 20及至他出来后，竟不能与他们讲话，他们这才知道他在圣所中见了异象；他已成了哑吧，只给他们打手势。 | 20But you would not believe and now you will be silent and unable to speak until this has happened." |
| 21他供职的日期一满，就回了家。 | 21Meanwhile the people waited for Zechariah, and they were surprised that he delayed so long in the sanctuary. |
| 22几天以后，他的妻子依撒伯尔受了孕，自己躲藏了五个月，说： | 22When he finally appeared, he could not speak to them and they realized that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He remained dumb and made signs to them. |
| 23「上主在眷顾的日子这样待了我，除去了我在人间的耻辱。」 | 23When his time of service was completed, Zechariah returned home |
| 24到了第六个月，天使加俾额尔奉天主差遣，往加里肋亚一座名叫纳匝肋的城去， | 24and some time later Elizabeth became pregnant. For five months she kept to herself, remaining at home, and thinking, |
| 25到一位童贞女那里，她已与达味家族中的一个名叫若瑟的男子订了婚，童贞女的名字叫玛利亚。 | 25"What is the Lord doing for me! This is his time for mercy and for taking away my public disgrace." |
| 26天使进去向她说：「万福！充满恩宠者，上主与你同在！」【在女人中你是蒙祝福的。】 | 26In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent |
| 27她却因这话惊惶不安，便思虑这样的请安有什么意思。 | 27to a young virgin who was betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. |
| 28天使对她说：「玛利亚，不要害怕，因为你在天主前获得了宠幸。 | 28The angel came to her and said, "Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you." |
| 29看，你将怀孕生子，并要给他起名叫耶稣。 | 29Mary was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean. |
| 30他将是伟大的，并被称为至高者的儿子，上主天主要把他祖先达味的御座赐给他。 | 30But the angel said, "Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you. |
| 31他要为王统治雅各伯家，直到永远；他的王权没有终结。」 | 31You shall conceive and bear a son and you shall call him Jesus. |
| 32玛利亚便向天使说：「这事怎能成就？因为我不认识男人。」 | 32He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob for-ever |
| 33天使答复她说：「圣神要临于你，至高者的能力要庇廕你，因此，那要诞生的圣者，将称为天主的儿子。 | 33and his reign shall have no end." |
| 34且看，你的亲戚依撒伯尔，她虽在老年，却怀了男胎，本月已六个月了，她原是素称不生育的， | 34Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be if I am a virgin?" |
| 35因为在天主前没有不能的事。」 | 35And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. |
| 36玛利亚说：「看！上主的婢女，愿照你的话成就于我罢！」天使便离开她去了。 | 36Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. |
| 37玛利亚就在那几日起身，急速往山区去，到了犹大的一座城。 | 37With God nothing is impossible." |
| 38她进了匝加利亚的家，就给依撒伯尔请安。 | 38Then Mary said, "I am the handmaid of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said." And the angel left her. |
| 39依撒伯尔一听到玛利亚请安，胎儿就在她的腹中欢跃。依撒伯尔遂充满了圣神， | 39Mary then set out for a town in the Hills of Judah. |
| 40大声呼喊说：「在女人中你是蒙祝福的，你的胎儿也是蒙祝福的。 | 40She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. |
| 41吾主的母亲驾临我这里，这是我那里得来的呢？ | 41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with holy spirit, and |
| 42看，你请安的声音一入我耳，胎儿就在我腹中欢喜踊跃。 | 42giving a loud cry, said, "You are most blessed among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! |
| 43那信了由上主传于她的话必要完成的，是有福的。」 | 43How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me? |
| 44玛利亚遂说：「我的灵魂颂扬上主， | 44The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy. |
| 45我的心神欢跃于天主，我的救主， | 45Blessed are you who believed that the Lord's word would come true!" |
| 46因为他垂顾了她婢女的卑微，今后万世万代都要称我有福； | 46And Mary said: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, |
| 47因全能者在我身上行了大事，他的名字是圣的， | 47my spirit exults in God my savior! |
| 48他的仁慈世世代代于无穷世，赐与敬畏他的人。 | 48He has looked upon his servant in her lowliness, and people forever will call me blessed. |
| 49他伸出了手臂施展大能，驱散那些心高气傲的人。 | 49The Mighty One has done great things for me, Holy is his Name! |
| 50他从高座上推下权势者，却举扬了卑微贫困的人。 | 50From age to age his mercy extends to those who live in his presence. |
| 51他曾使饥饿者饱飨美物，反使那富有者空手而去。 | 51He has acted with power and done wonders, and scattered the proud with their plans. |
| 52他曾回忆起自己的仁慈，扶助了他的仆人以色列， | 52He has put down the mighty from their thrones and lifted up those who are downtrodden. |
| 53正如他向我们的祖先所说过的恩许，施恩于亚巴郎和他的子孙，直到永远。」 | 53He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. |
| 54玛利亚同依撒伯尔住了三个月左右，就回本家去了。 | 54He held out his hand to Israel, his servant, for he remembered his mercy, |
| 55依撒伯尔满了产期，就生了一个儿子。 | 55even as he promised our fathers, Abraham and his descendants forever." |
| 56她的邻居和亲戚听说上主向她大施仁慈，都和她一同欢乐。 | 56Mary remained with Elizabeth about three months and then returned home. |
| 57到了第八天，人们来给这孩子行割损礼，并愿意照他父亲的名字叫他匝加利亚。 | 57When the time came for Elizabeth, she gave birth to a son. |
| 58他的母亲说：「不，要叫他若翰。」 | 58Her neighbors and relatives heard that the merciful Lord had done a wonderful thing for her and they rejoiced with her. |
| 59他们就向她说：「在你亲族中没有叫这个名字的。」 | 59When on the eighth day they came to attend the circumcision of the child, they wanted to name him Zechariah after his father. |
| 60他们便给他的父亲打手势，看他愿意叫他什么。 | 60But his mother said, "Not so; he shall be called John." |
| 61他要了一块小板，写道：「若翰是他的名字。」众人都惊讶起来。 | 61They said to her, "No one in your family has that name"; |
| 62匝加利亚的口和舌头立时开了，遂开口赞美天主。 | 62and they asked the father by means of signs for the name he wanted to give. |
| 63于是，所有的邻居都满怀怕情；这一切事就传遍了全犹大山区， | 63Zechariah asked for a writing tablet and wrote on it, "His name is John," and they were very surprised. |
| 64凡听见的人都将这事存在心中，说：「这孩子将成为什么人物啊？」因为上主的手与他同在。 | 64Immediately Zechariah could speak again and his first words were in praise of God. |
| 65他的父亲匝加利亚充满了圣神，遂预言说： | 65A holy fear came on all in the neighborhood, and throughout the Hills of Judea the people talked about these events. |
| 66「上主，以色列的天主应受赞美，因他眷顾救赎了自己的民族， | 66All who heard of it pondered in their minds and wondered, "What will this child be?" For they understood that the hand of the Lord was with him. |
| 67并在自己的仆人达味家中，为我们兴起了大能的救主， | 67Zechariah, filled with holy spirit, sang this canticle, |
| 68正如他藉历代诸圣先知的口所说过的， | 68"Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has come and redeemed his people. |
| 69拯救我们脱离敌人和仇恨我们者的手。 | 69He has raised up for us a victorious Savior in the house of David his servant, |
| 70他向我们的祖先施行仁慈，记忆起他自己的神圣盟约， | 70as he promised through his prophets of old, |
| 71就是他向我们的祖宗亚巴郎所宣述的誓词， | 71salvation from our enemies and from the hand of our foes. |
| 72恩赐我们从敌人手中被救出以后，无恐无惧， | 72He has shown mercy to our fathers and remembered his holy covenant, |
| 73一生一世在他面前，以圣善和正义事奉他。 | 73the oath he swore to Abraham, our father, |
| 74至于你，小孩，你要称为至高者的先知，因你要走在上主前面，为他预备道路， | 74to deliver us from the enemy, |
| 75为使他的百姓认识救恩，以获得他们罪恶的宽宥： | 75that we might serve him fearlessly as a holy and righteous people all the days of our lives. |
| 76这是出于我们天主的慈怀，使旭日由高天向我们照耀， | 76And you, my child, shall be called prophet of the Most High, for you shall go before the Lord to prepare the way for him |
| 77为光照那坐在黑暗和死影中的人，并引我们的脚步，走向和平的道路。」 | 77and enable his people to know of their salvation when he comes to forgive their sins. |
| 78这小孩渐渐长大，心神坚强。他住在荒野中，直到他在以色列人前出现的日期。 | 78This is the work of the mercy of our God, who comes from on high as a rising sun |
| 79 | 79shining on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, and guiding our feet into the way of peace." |
| 80 | 80As the child grew up, he was seen to be strong in the Spirit; he lived in the desert till the day when he appeared openly in Israel. |
