| 1那时凯撒奥古斯都出了一道上谕，叫天下的人都要登记： | 1At that time the emperor issued a decree for a census of the whole empire to be taken. |
| 2这是在季黎诺作叙利亚总督时，初次行的登记。 | 2This first census was taken while Quirinus was governor of Syria. |
| 3于是，众人各去本城登记。 | 3Everyone had to be registered in his own town. So everyone set out for his own city; |
| 4若瑟因为是达味家族的人，也从加里肋亚纳匝肋城，上犹大名叫白冷的达味城去， | 4Joseph too set out from Nazareth of Galilee. As he belonged to the family of David, being a descendant of his, he went to Judea to David's town of Bethlehem |
| 5好同自己已怀孕的聘妻玛利亚去登记。 | 5to be registered with Mary, his wife, who was with child. |
| 6他们在那里的时候，她分娩的日期满了， | 6They were in Bethlehem when the time came for her to have her child, |
| 7便生了她的头胎男儿，用襁褓里起，放在马槽里，因为在客栈中为他们没有地方。 | 7and she gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no place for them in the living room. |
| 8在那地区有些牧人露宿，守夜看守羊群。 | 8There were shepherds camping in the countryside, taking turns to watch over their flocks by night. |
| 9有上主的一个天使站在他们身边，上主的光耀环照着他们，他们便非常害怕。 | 9Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to them, with the Glory of the Lord shining around them. As they were terrified, |
| 10天使向他们说：「不要害怕！看！我给你们报告一个为全民族的大喜讯： | 10the angel said to them, "Don't be afraid; I am here to give you good news, great joy for all the people. |
| 11今天在达味城中，为你们诞生了一位救世者，他是主默西亚。 | 11Today a Savior has been born to you in David's town; he is the Messiah and the Lord. |
| 12这是给你们的记号：你们将要看见一个婴儿，里着襁褓，躺在马槽里。」 | 12Let this be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." |
| 13忽有一大队天军，同那天使一起赞颂天主说： | 13Suddenly the angel was surrounded by many more heavenly spirits, praising God and saying, |
| 14「天主受享光荣于高天，主爱的人在世享平安！」 | 14"Glory to God in the highest; peace on earth for God is blessing humankind." |
| 15众天使离开他们往天上去了以后，牧人们就彼此说：「我们且往白冷去，看看上主报告给我们所发生的事。」 | 15When the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go as far as Bethlehem and see what the Lord has made known to us." |
| 16他们急忙去了，找到了玛利亚和若瑟，并那躺在马槽中的婴儿。 | 16So they came hurriedly and found Mary and Joseph with the baby lying in the manger. |
| 17他们看见以后，就把天使对他们论这小孩所说的事，传扬开了， | 17On seeing this they related what they had been told about the child, |
| 18凡听见的人都惊讶牧人向他们所说的事。 | 18and all were astonished on hearing the shepherds. |
| 19玛利亚却把这一切事默存在自己心中，反复思想。 | 19As for Mary, she treasured all these messages and continually pondered over them. |
| 20牧人们为了他们所听见和看见的一切，正如天使向他们说的一样，就光荣赞美天主回去了。 | 20The shepherds then returned giving glory and praise to God for all they had heard and seen, just as the angels had told them. |
| 21满了八天，孩子应受割损，遂给他起名叫耶稣，这是他降孕母胎前，由天使所起的。 | 21On the eighth day the circumcision of the baby had to be performed; he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived. |
| 22按梅瑟的法律，一满了他们取洁的日期，他们便带着孩子上耶路撒冷去献给上主， | 22When the day came for the purification according to the law of Moses, they brought the baby up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, |
| 23就如上主的法律上所记载的：「凡开胎首生的男性，应祝圣于上主。」 | 23as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to God. |
| 24并该照上主法律上所吩咐的，献上祭物：一对斑鸠或两只鶵鸽。 | 24And they offered a sacrifice as ordered in the law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. |
| 25那时，在耶路撒冷有一个人，名叫西默盎。这人正义虔诚，期待着以色列的安慰，而且圣神也在他身上。 | 25There lived in Jerusalem at this time a very upright and devout man named Simeon; the Holy Spirit was in him. He looked forward to the time when the Lord would comfort Israel, |
| 26他曾蒙圣神启示：自己在未看见上主的受傅者以前，决见不到死亡。 | 26and he had been assured by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Messiah of the Lord. |
| 27他因圣神的感动，进了圣殿；那时，抱着婴孩耶稣的父母正进来，要按着法律的惯例为他行礼。 | 27So he was led into the Temple by the Holy Spirit at the time the parents brought the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law. |
| 28西默盎就双臂接过他来，赞美天主说： | 28Simeon took the child in his arms and blessed God, saying, |
| 29「主啊！现在可照你的话，放你的仆人平安去了！ | 29"Now, O Lord, you can dismiss your servant in peace, for you have fulfilled your word |
| 30因为我亲眼看见了你的救援， | 30and my eyes have seen your salvation, |
| 31即你在万民之前早准备好的： | 31which you display for all the people to see. |
| 32为作启示异邦的光明，你百姓以色列的荣耀。」 | 32Here is the light you will reveal to the nations and the glory of your people Israel." |
| 33他的父亲和母亲就惊异他关于耶稣所说的这些话。 | 33His father and mother wondered at what was said about the child. |
| 34西默盎祝福了他们，又向他的母亲玛利亚说：「看，这孩子已被立定，为使以色列中许多人跌倒和复起，并成为反对的记号── | 34Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, "See him; he will be for the rise or fall of the multitudes of Israel. He shall stand as a sign of contradiction, |
| 35至于你，要有一把利剑剌透你的心灵──为叫许多人心中的思念显露出来。」 | 35while a sword will pierce your own soul. Then the secret thoughts of many may be brought to light." |
| 36又有一位女先知亚纳，是阿协尔支派法奴耳的女儿，已上了年纪。她出阁后，与丈夫同居了七年， | 36There was also a prophetess named Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. After leaving her father's home, she had been seven years with her husband, and since then she had been continually about the Temple, serving God as a widow night and day in fasting and prayer. |
| 37以后就守寡，直到八十四岁。她斋戒祈祷，昼夜事奉天主，总不离开圣殿。 | 37She was now eighty-four. |
| 38正在那时刻，她也前来称谢天主，并向一切希望耶路撒冷得救赎的人，讲论这孩子。 | 38Coming up at that time, she gave praise to God and spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem. |
| 39他们按着上主的法律，行完了一切，便返回了加里肋亚，他们的本城纳匝肋。 | 39When the parents had fulfilled all that was required by the law of the Lord, they returned to their town, Nazareth in Galilee. |
| 40孩子渐渐长大而强壮，充满智慧，天主的恩宠常在他身上。 | 40There the child grew in stature and strength and was filled with wisdom: the grace of God was upon him. |
| 41他的父母每年逾越节往耶路撒冷去。 | 41Every year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover, as was customary. |
| 42他到了十二岁时，他们又照节日的惯例上去了。 | 42And when Jesus was twelve years old, he went up with them according to the custom for this feast. |
| 43过完了节日，他们回去的时候，孩童耶稣却留在耶路撒冷，他的父母并未发觉。 | 43After the festival was over, they returned, but the boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem and his parents did not know it. |
| 44他们只以为他在同行的人中间，遂走了一天的路程；以后，就在亲戚和相识的人中寻找他。 | 44They thought he was in the company and after walking the whole day they looked for him among their relatives and friends. |
| 45既找不着，便折回耶路撒冷找他。 | 45As they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem searching for him, |
| 46过了三天，才在圣殿里找到了他。他正坐在经师中，聆听他们，也询问他们。 | 46and on the third day they found him in the Temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions. |
| 47凡听见他的人，对他的智慧和对答，都惊奇不止。 | 47And all the people were amazed at his understanding and his answers. |
| 48他们一看见他，便大为惊异，他的母亲就向他说：「孩子，为什么你这样对待我们？看，你的父亲和我，一直痛苦的找你。」 | 48His parents were very surprised when they saw him and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I were very worried while searching for you." |
| 49耶稣对他们说：「你们为什么寻找我？你们不知道我必须在我父亲那里吗？」 | 49Then he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Do you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" |
| 50但是，他们不明白他对他们所说的话。 | 50But they did not understand this answer. |
| 51他就同他们下去，来到纳匝肋，属他们管辖。他的母亲把这一切默存在心中。 | 51Jesus went down with them, returning to Nazareth, and he continued to be subject to them. As for his mother, she kept all these things in her heart. |
| 52耶稣在智慧和身量上，并在天主和人前的恩爱上，渐渐地增长。 | 52And Jesus increased in wisdom and age, and in divine and human favor. |
