| 1凯撒提庇留执政第十五年，般雀比拉多作犹太总督，黑落德作加里肋亚分封侯，他的兄弟斐理伯作依突勒雅和特辣曷尼地方的分封侯，吕撒尼雅作阿彼肋乃分封侯， | 1It was the fifteenth year of the rule of the Emperor Tiberius; Pontius Pilatus was governor of Judea; Herod ruled over Galilee, his brother Philip ruled over the country of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias over Abilene. |
| 2亚纳斯和盖法作大司祭时，在荒野中有天主的话，传给匝加利亚的儿子若翰。 | 2Annas and Caiaphas were the High Priests at that time when the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah in the desert. |
| 3他遂走遍约但河一带地方，宣讲悔改的洗礼，为得罪之赦。 | 3John proclaimed a baptism for repentant people to obtain forgiveness of sins and he went through the whole country bordering the Jordan River. |
| 4正如《依撒意亚先知预言书》上记载的：「在荒野中有呼号者的声音：你们当预备上主的道路，修直他的途径！ | 4It was just as is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah: listen to this voice crying out in the desert: prepare the way of the Lord, make his path straight. |
| 5一切深谷要填满，一切山岳丘陵要铲平，弯曲的要修直，崎岖的要开成坦途！ | 5The valleys will be filled and the mountains and hills made low. Everything crooked will be made straight and the rough paths smooth; |
| 6凡有血肉的，都要看见天主的救援。」 | 6and every mortal will see the salvation of God. |
| 7于是，他对那些前来要受他洗礼的群众说：「毒蛇的种类！谁指教你们逃避那就要来的忿怒？ | 7John said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! How will you escape when divine punishment comes? |
| 8那么，结与悔改相称的果实罢！你们心里不要以为：我们有亚巴郎为父。我给你们说：天主能从这些石头中给亚巴郎兴起子孙来。 | 8Produce now the fruits of a true change of heart, and do not deceive yourselves by saying: 'Abraham is our ancestor!.' For I tell you, God can make children of Abraham from these stones. |
| 9斧子已放到树根上了；凡不结好果子的树，必被砍倒，投入火中。」 | 9The axe is already laid to the root of the tree and every tree that fails to produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire." |
| 10群众向他说：「那么，我们该作什么呢？」 | 10The people asked him, "What are we to do?" |
| 11他答复他们说：「有两件内衣的，要分给那没有的；有食物的，也应照样作。」 | 11And John answered, "If you have two coats, give one to the person who has none; and if you have food, do the same." |
| 12税吏也来受洗，并问他说：「师傅，我们该作什么呢？」 | 12Even tax collectors came to be baptized and asked him, "Master, what must we do?" |
| 13他向他们说：「除给你们规定的外，不要多征收！」 | 13John said to them, "Collect no more than your fixed rate." |
| 14军人也问他说：「我们该作什么呢？」他向他们说：「不要勒索人，也不要敲诈；对你们的粮饷应当知足！」 | 14People serving as soldiers asked John, "What about us? What are we to do?" And he answered, "Don't take anything by force or threaten the people by denouncing them falsely. Be content with your pay." |
| 15那时，百姓都在期待（默西亚），为此，人人心中推想：或许若翰就是默西亚。 | 15The people were wondering about John's identity, "Could he be the Messiah?" |
| 16若翰便向众人说道：「我固然以水洗你们，但是比我强的一位要来，就是解他的鞋带，我也不配。他要以圣神和火洗你们。 | 16Then John answered them, "I baptize you with water, but the one who is coming will do much more: he will baptize you with Holy Spirit and fire. As for me, I am not worthy to untie his sandal. |
| 17木鍁已放在他手中，他要扬净自己的禾场，把麦粒收在仓内；至于糠粃，却要用不灭的火焚烧。」 | 17He comes with a winnowing fan to clear his threshing floor and gather the grain into his barn. But the chaff he will burn with fire that never goes out." |
| 18他还讲了许多别的劝言，给百姓传报喜讯。 | 18With these and many other words John announced the Good News to the people |
| 19分封侯黑落德却为了自己兄弟的妻子黑落狄雅，并为了黑落德本人所作的一切恶事，受了若翰的指摘， | 19until Herod had him put in prison. For John reproached Herod for living with Herodias, his brother's wife, and for his evil deeds. |
| 20又在一切的恶事上加了这一件：即把若翰囚禁在监中。 | 20Then Herod added another crime to all the rest he had committed: he put John in prison. |
| 21众百姓受洗后，耶稣也受了洗；当他祈祷时，天开了； | 21Now, with all the people who came to be baptized, Jesus too was baptized. Then, while he was praying, the heavens opened: |
| 22圣神藉着一个形像，如同鸽子，降在他上边；并有声音从天上说：「你是我的爱子，我因你而喜悦。」 | 22the Holy Spirit came down upon him in the bodily form of a dove and a voice from heaven was heard, "You are my Son, this day I have begotten you." |
| 23耶稣开始传教的时候，大约三十岁，人都以他为若瑟的儿子：若瑟是赫里的儿子，赫里是玛塔特的儿子， | 23When Jesus made his appearance, he had reached the age of thirty years. He was known as the son of Joseph, whose father and forefathers were: Heli, |
