¹上主训示梅瑟说：	¹Yahweh then spoke to Moses, saying,
²「你要派遣一些人去窥探我要赐给以色列子民的客纳罕地；每一宗族支派应派遣一人去，个个都应是他们中的领袖。」	²"Send men to explore the land of Canaan that I am giving to the sons of Israel; send one man from each of the ancestral tribes, all of them leaders."
³梅瑟就依照上主的命令，从帕兰旷野派遣他们去了；这些人全是以色列子民的首领。	³So Moses sent these men from the wilderness of Paran as Yahweh commanded. All were leaders among the Israelites
⁴以下是他们的名字：勒乌本支派是匝雇尔的儿子沙慕亚；	⁴and these were their names: from the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
⁵西默盎支派是曷黎的儿子沙法特；	⁵from the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
⁶犹大支派是耶孚乃的儿子加肋布；	⁶from the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
⁷依撒加尔支派，是若瑟的儿子依卡耳；	⁷from the tribe of Issachar, Igal;
⁸厄弗辣因支派是农的儿子曷舍亚；	⁸from the sons of Joseph and from the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
⁹本雅明支派是辣富的儿子帕耳提；	⁹from the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
¹⁰则步隆支派是索狄的儿子加狄耳；	¹⁰from the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
¹¹若瑟支派，即默纳协支派是稣息的儿子加狄；	¹¹from the sons of Joseph and from the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
¹²丹支派是革玛里的儿子阿米耳；	¹²from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
¹³阿协尔支派是米加耳的儿子色突尔；	¹³from the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
¹⁴纳斐塔里支派是沃斐息的儿子纳赫彼；	¹⁴from the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
¹⁵加得支派是玛基的儿子革乌耳；	¹⁵from the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Mahci.
¹⁶以上是梅瑟派去窥探那地方的人名；梅瑟给农的儿子曷舍亚起名叫若苏厄。	¹⁶These are the names of the men sent by Moses to explore the country. But Hoshea, the son of Nun, Moses called Joshua.
¹⁷当梅瑟派遣他们窥探客纳罕地时，向他们说：「你们由此上乃革布去，然后上山区去，	¹⁷So Moses sent them to explore the land of Canaan and said to them, "Go up by the south and then into the hill country
¹⁸窥看那地方怎样，看住在那地方的人民是强盛或是软弱，是稀少或是众多；	¹⁸and see what the land is like, whether the people there are strong or weak, many or few.
¹⁹他们住的地方是好，或是坏；他们居住的城镇是不设防，或是设防的；	¹⁹See also whether the land they live in is good or barren. See what their cities are like, if they are open camps or fortresses.
²⁰有什么土壤，是肥沃或是贫瘠；在那里有没有树木。你们应勇敢，带些那地方的果子来。」那时是葡萄初熟的时节。	²⁰See if the soil is fertile or poor, if the land is wooded or not. Be courageous and take some of the fruit of the land." It was the season for early grapes.
²¹他们遂上去，窥探了那地方，从亲旷野直到勒曷布，哈玛特关口。	²¹They went up and surveyed the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob near the entrance of Hamath.
²²他们上到乃革布，来到了赫贝龙。在那里有阿纳克的后裔阿希曼、舍瑟和塔耳买。──赫贝龙城比埃及左罕城早建七年。	²²They went up by the south and reached Hebron, an old city which had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt; the Anakites, Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai were living there.
²³他们一直来到厄市苛耳山谷，砍下了一枝只有一嘟噜的葡萄，两人用杠子抬着，又摘了些石榴和无花果。	²³And they came to the valley of Eshcol where they cut down a branch with a cluster of grapes. Two of them carried this by means of a pole. They also brought pomegranates and figs.
²⁴人称那地方为厄市苛耳山谷，因为以色列子民从那里砍去了一嘟噜葡萄。	²⁴Because of the cluster that the sons of Israel had cut, they called that place the Valley of Eshcol.
²⁵四十天后，他们由侦探的地方回来，	²⁵After forty days of exploration, they returned.
²⁶到了帕兰旷野的卡德士去见梅瑟、亚郎和以色列子民的全会众，给他们和全会众报告，叫他们看那地方的果子。	²⁶They went and met Moses, Aaron and the whole community of Israelites in the wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They gave an account to them and the whole community and showed them the fruit of this land.
²⁷他们向梅瑟报告说：「我们到了你派遣我们去的那个地方，实在是流奶流蜜的地方；这是那地方的出产。	²⁷And they said, "We entered the land where you sent us, truly a land flowing with milk and honey and here is the fruit.
²⁸只是住在那地方的人强盛，城镇坚固广大，而且我们在那里也见到了阿纳克的后裔。	²⁸But how strong are the people who inhabit the land! The cities are fortified with walls and bars, and we even saw there descendants of the Anakites.
²⁹阿玛肋克人住在乃革布地方；赫特人、耶步斯人和阿摩黎人住在山区；客纳罕人住在海滨和约但河沿岸一带。」	²⁹Amalekites live in the region of the Negeb; Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; the Canaanites are by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan."
³⁰加肋布使百姓在梅瑟前镇静说：「我们尽管上去，必要占领那地方。我们必能战胜。」	³⁰Caleb then quieted the people who rose up against Moses and said, "We should go up and take over the land, for we shall surely overcome it."
³¹但是与他同去的人却说：「我们不能前去攻打那民族，因为他们比我们强盛。」	³¹But the men who had gone up with him said, "We cannot advance against these people for they are stronger than we are."
³²于是他们在以色列子民中，对所侦探的地方散布谣言说：「我们侦探所经过的地方，是个吞噬当地居民的地方；我们在那里所见到的民族，都是高大的人。	³²And they spread an unfavorable report about the land that they had explored, saying to the Israelites,"The land we went through to explore is a land that devours its inhabitants and all the people we saw there are men of great size.
³³在那里还见到了巨人，即巨人的后裔，阿纳克的子孙；我们看自己好像是蚱蜢；在他们看来，我们也实在如此。」	³³We even saw giants (these giants were the Anakites). We felt like grasshoppers before them, and to them we must have seemed the same."
