| 1巴郎对巴拉克说：「请你在这里给我建造七座祭坛，给我准备七头公牛犊和七只公绵羊。」 | 1Balaam said, "Build me seven altars here and prepare seven bullocks and seven rams for me," |
| 2巴拉克就照巴郎说的做了；巴拉克和巴郎在每座祭坛上奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 2Balak did just as Balaam had ordered and Balak and Balaam offered up a bullock and a ram on each altar. |
| 3然后巴郎对巴拉克说：「你留在你的全燔祭旁，我要前去，或许上主会使我遇见他；他指示我什么，我都告诉你。」 | 3Balaam said to Balak, "Stand here beside your offering while I go aside. Perhaps Yahweh will meet me and whatever he lets me see I will tell you." So he went to a barren hill. |
| 4他就上了一座荒丘。天主遇到了巴郎，巴郎遂对天主说：「我建造了七座祭坛，在每座祭坛上，奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。」 | 4God met Balaam who said, "I have prepared the seven altars and on each altar I have offered a bullock and a ram." |
| 5上主遂将巴郎要说的话放在他口中，然后对他说：「你回到巴拉克那里就这样说。」 | 5Yahweh then put a message on Balaam's lips and said, "Go back to Balak and give him this message." |
| 6他回到巴拉克那里，看见他和摩阿布所有的缙绅，仍站在全燔祭旁； | 6Balaam returned and found Balak standing beside his offering, together with the leaders of Moab. |
| 7于是吟诗说：「巴拉克将我由阿兰召来，摩阿布王叫我由东方的山岭前来：你来替我咒骂雅各伯，你来诅咒以色列！ | 7Then Balaam pronounced his oracle: "From Aram, Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains. 'Come, curse Jacob for me! Come, denounce Israel! |
| 8我岂能咒骂天主所不咒骂的？我岂能诅咒上主所不诅咒的？ | 8How can I curse him whom God has not cursed? How can I de-nounce him whom God has not denounced? |
| 9我由巖峰向他们观看，我由高丘向他们眺望：这是一独居，而不应与众民同列的民族。 | 9From the peak of the crags I see him, from the heights I behold him. I see a people that lives apart, a people different from all the nations. |
| 10谁能数尽雅各伯的尘埃，谁能算清以色列的尘沙？惟愿我的死有如义人的死，我的结局相似他的结局。」 | 10Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the upright and may my end be like theirs!" |
| 11巴拉克对巴郎说：「你对我作的是什么事？我叫你来是为咒骂我的仇敌，你反而祝福！」 | 11Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my ene-mies and you have actually blessed them." |
| 12他回答说：「我岂不该谨慎说出上主叫我说的话吗？」 | 12And Balaam answered, "Must I not take care to say what Yahweh puts on my lips?" |
| 13巴拉克对他说：「请你同我到另一地方去，从那里可看到他们；这里只看到一部分，不能看全部；从那里替我咒骂他们。」 | 13Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place where you will see them. You will not see all of them, only the tail end, and there you shall curse them for me." |
| 14于是领他到了丕斯加山顶上的瞭望台。在那里建造了七座祭坛，在每座祭坛上，奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 14So he took him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah and built seven altars and offered a bullock and a ram on each altar. |
| 15巴郎对巴拉克说：「你在这里，站在你的全燔祭旁，我到那边去会见上主。」 | 15Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here beside your burnt offering while I go and meet Yahweh over there." |
| 16上主就显现给巴郎，把他要说的话放在他口内，然后说：「你回巴拉克那里，就这样说。」 | 16Yahweh met Balaam and put words on his lips and said, "Go back to Balak and give him this message." |
| 17他来到巴拉克那里，看见他还站在全燔祭旁，摩阿布的缙绅仍同他在一起；巴拉克便问他说：「上主说了什么？」 | 17He returned and found Balak posted beside his burnt offering with the leaders of Moab. Balak asked, "What did Yahweh say?" |
| 18他于是吟诗说：「巴拉克起来静听！漆颇尔的儿子，倾耳听我！ | 18Balaam then pronounced his oracle, "Be ready to hear, Balak; listen to me, son of Zippor. |
| 19天主不像人能食言，不像人子能反悔。他说了岂能不做，许了岂能不行？ | 19God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent. Has he said he will do something and will not do it? Has he promised something and not fulfilled it? |
| 20我受命是为祝福；他要祝福，我不能变更。 | 20See, I have received a command to bless; when he has blessed I cannot change it. |
| 21在雅各伯中不见罪恶，在以色列中不睹灾祸；上主他们的天主与他们同在，欢呼君王之声，常在他们中间。 | 21He has not seen misfortune in Jacob or observed misery in Israel. Yahweh, their God is with them, and the shout of a king among them. |
| 22领他们由埃及出来的天主，为他们有如野牛的角。 | 22God has brought them out of Egypt; he is for them like the horns of a wild ox. |
| 23其实雅各伯不需要巫术，以色列不需要占卜；时候一到，自会启示与雅各伯和以色列；天主要作什么。 | 23There are no diviners or magicians in Israel. But it shall be made known to them what God will do with them. |
| 24这民族起来有如母狮，挺身像雄狮，不吞下猎物，不喝被杀的血，决不卧下。」 | 24Behold a people that rises like a lioness, that rouses itself like a lion. It shall not lie down before it devours its prey and drinks the blood of its victims." |
| 25巴拉克对巴郎说：「你不咒骂他们，但也不该祝福啊！」 | 25Balak said to Balaam, "Even though you cannot curse them, do not bless them." |
| 26巴郎回答巴拉克说：「我不是对你说过：我应做上主所吩咐的一切吗？」 | 26But Balaam answered, "Did I not tell you that whatever Yahweh says, I will do?" |
| 27巴拉克对巴郎说：「来，我领你到另一个地方去，或者天主喜欢你从那里替我咒骂他们。」 | 27And Balak said to Balaam, "Come, I will take you to another place. Perhaps it is God's will that you curse them for me there." |
| 28巴拉克于是领巴郎到了俯视旷野的培敖尔山顶。 | 28Then Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor which overlooks the wasteland, |
| 29巴郎对巴拉克说：「你在这里给我建造七座祭坛，给我准备七头公牛犊和七只公绵羊。」 | 29and Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here and prepare seven bullocks and seven rams." |
| 30巴拉克就照巴郎说的做了，在每座祭坛上奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 30Balak did just as Balaam ordered and offered a bullock and a ram on each altar. |
