¹过了许多时日，到了第三年，有上主的话传於厄里亚说：「你去见阿哈布，我要在这地上降雨。」	¹After many days the word of the Lord came to Elias, in the third year, saying: Go and shew thyself to Achab, that I may give rain upon the face of the earth.
²厄里亚就去见阿哈布；那时，撒玛黎雅正遭受严重的饥荒。	²And Elias went to shew himself to Achab, and there was a grievous famine in Samaria.
³阿哈布将自己的家宰敖巴狄雅召来，──敖巴狄雅原是一位很敬畏上主的人。	³And Achab called Abdias the governor of his house: now Abdias feared the Lord very much.
⁴当依则贝耳杀害上主的先知时，他曾收留了一百个先知，每五十人分藏在一个洞里，私下供给他们饮食。──	⁴For when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, he took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water.
⁵阿哈布对敖巴狄雅说：「我们要走遍这地，到所有的水泉和小河那里去，或许能找到一些青草，使骡马生存，免得丧失许多牲畜。」	⁵And Achab said to Abdias: Go into the land unto all fountains of waters, and into all valleys, to see if we can find grass, and save the horses and mules, that the beasts may not utterly perish.
⁶他们於是分地巡行：阿哈布独自走了一条路，敖巴狄雅也独自走了另一条路。	⁶And they divided the countries between them, that they might go round about them: Achab went one way, and Abdias another way by himself.
⁷敖巴狄雅走路时，厄里亚恰巧遇见了他；敖巴狄雅认得他，便俯伏在地说：「你不就是我主厄里亚吗？」	⁷And as Abdias was in the way, Elias met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: Art thou my lord Elias?
⁸厄里亚回答说：「是，你去告诉你的主人说：厄里亚在这里。」	⁸And he answered: I am. Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here.
⁹敖巴狄雅说：「我犯了什么罪？你竟要将你的仆人交於阿哈布手中，让他杀死我？	⁹And he said: What have I sinned, that thou wouldst deliver me thy servant into the hand of Achab, that he should kill me?
¹⁰我指着永生的上主，你的天主起誓：没有一个民族，没有一个国家，我的主上不派人去寻找你的；如果人们说：厄里亚不在我们这里；他一定要叫那个国家和那个民族起誓说：实在他们没有找到你。	¹⁰As the Lord thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when all answered: He is not here: he took an oath of every kingdom and nation, because thou wast not found.
¹¹现在你说：你去告诉你的主人说：厄里亚在这里。	¹¹And now thou sayest to me: Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here.
¹²我一离开你，上主的神把你带到我所不知道的地方去；我若去告诉阿哈布，而他找不到你，岂不要杀死我？你的仆人自幼也是个敬畏上主的人啊！	¹²And when I am gone from thee, the spirit of the Lord will carry thee into a place that I know not: and I shall go in and tell Achab, and he not finding thee, will kill me: but thy servant feareth the Lord from his infancy.
¹³难道我主没有听说过：当依则贝耳残杀上主的先知时，我所作的事？我曾隐藏一百个上主的先知，每五十人分藏在一个洞里，由我供给他们饮食。	¹³Hath it not been told thee, my lord, what I did when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty and fifty in caves, and fed them with bread and water?
¹⁴现在你说：你去告诉你的主人，厄里亚在这里，他一定要杀我！」	¹⁴And now thou sayest: Go, and tell thy master: Elias is here: that he may kill me.
¹⁵厄里亚说：「我指着我所服侍的万军的永生上主起誓：今天我一定要叫阿哈布看见我。」	¹⁵And Elias said: As the Lord of hosts liveth, before whose face I stand, this day I will shew myself unto him.
¹⁶敖巴狄雅於是前去会见阿哈布，告诉了他这消息，阿哈布就去迎接厄里亚。	¹⁶Abdias therefore went to meet Achab, and told him: and Achab came to meet Elias.
¹⁷阿哈布一见厄里亚，就对他说：「叫以色列遭难的人，不就是你吗？」	¹⁷And when he had seen him, he said: Art thou he that troublest Israel?
¹⁸厄里亚答说：「不是我叫以色列遭难，而是你和你的父家，因为你们拋弃了上主的诫命，归顺了巴耳邪神。	¹⁸And he said: I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, who have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim.
¹⁹现在，你派人去召集全以色列人，同受依则贝耳供养的那四百五十个巴耳的先知，【及那四百个阿舍辣的先知，】上加尔默耳山，到我跟前来。」	¹⁹Nevertheless send now, and gather unto me all Israel, unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, who eat at Jezabel's table.
²⁰阿哈布便派人召集了所有的以色列子民，聚集了那些先知，一起到了加尔默耳山上。	²⁰Achab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered together the prophets unto mount Carmel.
²¹厄里亚走向全体民众面前说：「你们摇摆不定，模稜两可，要到几时呢？如果上主是天主，你们就应该随从上主；如果巴耳是天主，就该随从巴耳。」人民一句话也不回答。	²¹And Elias coming to all the people, said: How long do you halt between two sides? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word.
²²厄里亚对人民说：「上主的先知只剩下我一个人了，巴耳的先知却有四百五十人。	²²And Elias said again to the people: I only remain a prophet of the Lord: but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.
²³请给我们牵两只公牛犊来；他们可任选一只，剖分成块，放在木柴上，不要点火；我也照样预备另一只，放在木柴上，也不点火。	²³Let two bullocks be given us, and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces and lay it upon wood, but put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under it.
²⁴你们呼求你们神的名字，我也呼求上主的名字：那降火显示应允的神，就是真神。」民众回答说：「你这话说得很好！」	²⁴Call ye on the names of your gods, and I will call on the name of my Lord: and the God that shall answer by fire, let him be God. And all the people answering said: A very good proposal.
²⁵厄里亚对巴耳的先知们说：「因为你们人数众多，你们该先挑选一只牛犊，準备好，然后呼求你们神的名字，只是不要点火。」	²⁵Then Elias said to the prophets of Baal: Choose you one bullock and dress it first, because you are many: and call on the names of your gods, but put no fire under.
²⁶他们即将人给他们的公牛犊牵来，预备好，从早晨直到中午呼求巴耳的名字说：「巴耳，应允我们罢！」但是没有声音，也没有答应的。他们就在自己所筑的祭坛旁，跪下又起来，跳个不停。	²⁶And they took the bullock which he gave them, and dressed it: and they called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying: O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered: and they leaped over the altar that they had made.
²⁷到了中午，厄里亚嘲弄他们说：「你们再高声喊叫，因为他是神，或者他正在沉思冥想，或者他暂时隐退，或者正在外旅行，或者他正在睡觉，必须把他叫醒。」	²⁷And when it was now noon, Elias jested at them, saying: Cry with a louder voice: for he is a God, and perhaps he is talking, or is in an inn, or on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep, and must be awaked.
²⁸他们遂更高声喊叫，照他们的习惯，用刀用枪割伤自己，直到全身流出血来。	²⁸So they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till they were all covered with blood.
²⁹过了中午，他们仍继续狂喊乱叫，直到晚祭的时候，但仍然没有声音，也没有答应的，也没有理会的。	²⁹And after midday was past, and while they were prophesying, the time was come of offering sacrifice, and there was no voice heard, nor did any one answer, nor regard them as they prayed:
³⁰厄里亚对全体人民说：「你们到我这边来。」全体人民便都到他那边去；厄里亚立即重修了已经坍塌了的上主的祭坛；	³⁰Elias said to all the people: Come ye unto me. And the people coming near unto him, he repaired the altar of the Lord, that was broken down:
³¹依照雅各伯子孙的支派数目，取了十二块石头，──这雅各伯就是上主曾对他说过：「你的名字要叫以色列。」──	³¹And he took twelve stones according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying: Israel shall be thy name.
³²用这些石头，为上主的名筑成一座祭坛，在祭坛四周作了一个水沟，可容二「色阿」谷种。	³²And he built with the stones an altar to the name of the Lord: and he made a trench for water, of the breadth of two furrows round about the altar.
³³把木柴放好，将牛犊剖分成块，放在木柴上，	³³And he laid the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it upon the wood.
³⁴然后吩咐说：「盛满四桶水，倒在全燔祭和木柴上！」他们就这样做了。他又吩咐说：「再倒一次！」他们就再倒了一次；他再吩咐说：「倒第三次！」他们就倒了第三次；	³⁴And he said: Fill four buckets with water, and pour it upon the burnt offering, and upon the wood. And again he said: Do the same the second time. And when they had done it the second time, he said: Do the same also the third time. And they did so the third time.
³⁵水沿祭坛四周奔流，沟里满了水。	³⁵And the water run round about the altar, and the trench was filled with water.
³⁶到了要奉献晚祭的时候，厄里亚先知走近前来说：「上主，亚巴郎、依撒格和以色列的天主，求你今天使人知道：你是以色列的天主，我是你的仆人，是奉你的命作这一切事。	³⁶And when it was now time to offer the holocaust, Elias the prophet came near and said: O Lord God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israel, shew this day that thou art the God of Israel, and I thy servant, and that according to thy commandment I have done all these things.
³⁷上主，求你应允我，应允我！使这人民知道你上主，是真天主，是你叫他们心回意转。」	³⁷Hear me, O Lord, hear me: that this people may learn, that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart again.
³⁸於是上主的火降下，焚尽了全燔祭、柴木、石头和尘土，也烧干了沟中的水。	³⁸Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
³⁹全体人民见了，都俯伏在地说：「雅威是天主，雅威是天主！」	³⁹And when all the people saw this, they fell on their faces, and they said: The Lord he is God, the Lord he is God.
⁴⁰厄里亚对民众说：「你们捉住巴耳的先知，不要让他们走脱一个！」民众立即捉住他们。厄里亚带他们下到克雄小河旁，在那里将他们全部杀掉。	⁴⁰And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.
⁴¹厄里亚对阿哈布说：「你上去吃喝罢！因为已听到大雨的怒号声。」	⁴¹And Elias said to Achab: Go up, eat, and drink: for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
⁴²阿哈布就上去吃喝，厄里亚却上了加尔默耳山顶，跪伏在地，将脸放在两膝之间。	⁴²Achab went up to eat and drink: and Elias went up to the top of Carmel, and casting himself down upon the earth put his face between his knees,
⁴³以后，对自己的仆人说：「你上去，朝海那边观看！」仆人就上去观看，说：「什么也没有。」厄里亚说：「你来回观看七次！」他就去了七次。	⁴³And he said to his servant: Go up, and look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said: There is nothing. And again he said to him: Return seven times.
⁴⁴第七次仆人说：「看，有一片云彩，小得像人手掌那么大，从海上升起来了。」厄里亚说：「你上去告诉阿哈布说：快套车下去，免得被雨阻止！」	⁴⁴And at the seventh time, behold, a little cloud arose out of the sea like a man's foot. And he said: Go up and say to Achab: Prepare thy chariot and go down, lest the rain prevent thee.
⁴⁵转瞬之间，天空因风云而变为昏黑，落下大雨；阿哈布上车去了依次勒耳。	⁴⁵And while he turned himself this way and that way, behold the heavens grew dark, with clouds, and wind, and there fell a great rain. And Achab getting up went away to Jezrahel:
⁴⁶上主的手临於厄里亚身上，他就束上腰，跑在阿哈布前头，直到依次勒耳的城门口。	⁴⁶And the hand of the Lord was upon Elias, and he girded up his loins and ran before Achab, till he came to Jezrahel.
