| 1有一天，撒慕尔对撒乌耳说：「上主曾打发我给你傅油，作他人民以色列的君王，如今你应听上主的话！ | 1And Samuel said to Saul: The Lord sent me to anoint thee king over his People Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the Lord: |
| 2万军的上主这样说：我要惩罚阿玛肋克对以色列所行的事，因为当以色列从埃及上来时，拦截了去路。 | 2Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I have reckoned up all that Amalec hath done to Israel: I how he opposed them in the way when they came up out of Egypt. |
| 3如今你去攻打阿玛肋克，毁灭他们和他们所有的一切，丝毫不可顾惜，要将男女、孩童、婴儿、牛羊、骆驼和驴，一律杀掉。」 | 3Now therefore go, and smite Amalec, and utterly destroy all that he hath: spare him not, nor covet any thing that is his: but slay both man and woman, child and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. |
| 4撒乌耳调集了军人，在特冷检阅了他们，计步兵二十万，犹大人一万。 | 4So Saul commanded the people, and numbered them as lambs: two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand of the men of Juda. |
| 5撒乌耳来到阿玛肋克城时，在山谷里设下了埋伏。 | 5And when Saul was come to the city of Amalec, he laid ambushes in the torrent. |
| 6撒乌耳对刻尼人说：「你们起来快走，离开阿玛肋克人，免得我把你们同他们一起消灭，因为以色列子民由埃及上来时，你们善待了他们。」刻尼人便离开阿玛肋克人走了。 | 6And Saul said to the Cinite: Go, depart and get ye down from Amalec: lest I destroy thee with him. For thou hast shewn kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. And the Cinite departed from the midst of Amalec. |
| 7撒乌耳击杀阿玛肋克人，从哈威拉一直杀到埃及东面的叔尔， | 7And Saul smote Amalec from Hevila, until thou comest to Sur, which is over against Egypt. |
| 8活捉了阿玛肋克王阿加格，用刀杀尽了其余的人民。 | 8And he took Agag the king of Amalec alive: but all the common people he slew with the edge of the sword. |
| 9但撒乌耳和军民却怜惜阿加格和最好的牛羊，肥美的家畜和羔羊；凡是美好的，他们都不愿毁灭，只把一切不值钱，不要的牲畜毁灭了。 | 9And Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the flocks of sheep and of the herds, and the garments and the rams, and all that was beautiful, and would not destroy them: but every thing that was vile and good for nothing, that they destroyed. |
| 10那时有上主的话传于撒慕尔说： | 10And the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying: |
| 11「我后悔立了撒乌耳为王，因为他背离了我，没有遵从我的命令。」撒慕尔感到不安，整夜哀求上主。 | 11It repenteth me that I have made Saul king: for he hath forsaken me, and hath not executed my commandments. And Samuel was grieved, and he cried unto the Lord all night. |
| 12撒慕尔清晨起来去见撒乌耳；有人告诉他说：「撒乌耳去了加尔默耳，在那里立了纪念碑，然后回来经过这里，又去了基耳加耳。」 | 12And when Samuel rose early, to go to Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, that Saul was come to Carmel, and had erected for himself a triumphant arch, and returning had passed on, and gone down to Galgal. And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul was offering a holocaust to the Lord out of the choicest of the spoils which he had brought from Amalec. |
| 13撒慕尔来到撒乌耳那里，撒乌耳就他说：「愿天主祝福你！我履行了上主的命令。」 | 13And when Samuel was come to Saul, Saul said to him: Blessed be thou of the Lord, I have fulfilled the word of the Lord. |
| 14撒慕尔就问说：「怎么我耳中听见有羊叫，有牛鸣？」 | 14And Samuel said: What meaneth then this bleating of the flocks, which soundeth in my ears, and the lowing of the herds, which I hear? |
| 15撒乌耳回答说：「那是从阿玛肋克带回来的，因为人民爱惜那些最好的牛羊，好献给上主你的天主；至于其余的，我们都毁灭了。」 | 15And Saul said: They have brought them from Amalec: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the herds that they might be sacrificed to the Lord thy God, but the rest we have slain. |
| 16撒慕尔对撒乌耳说：「住口！让我告诉你，上主昨夜对我说过的话。」撒乌耳答说：「请说罢！」 | 16And Samuel said to Saul: Suffer me, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said to him: Speak. |
| 17撒慕尔说：「虽然你自以为是最微小的，你岂不是已成了以色列众支派的首领？上主不是曾给你傅油，立你作以色列的君王吗？ | 17And Samuel said: When thou wast a little one in thy own eyes, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And the Lord anointed thee to be king over Israel. |
| 18上主派你去打仗，曾吩咐你说：去剿灭那些犯罪的阿玛肋克人，攻打他们，直至将他们完全消灭。 | 18And the Lord sent thee on the way, and said: Go, and kill the sinners of Amalec, and thou shalt fight against them until thou hast utterly destroyed them. |
| 19为什么你没有顺听上主的命令，只顾急忙抢掠财物，行了上主不喜欢的事？」 | 19Why then didst thou not hearken to the voice of the Lord: but hast turned to the prey, and hast done evil in the eyes of the Lord. |
| 20撒乌耳回答撒慕尔说：「我的确听从了上主的命令，走了上主指给我的路，擒获了阿玛肋克王阿加格，毁灭了阿玛肋克人。 | 20And Saul said to Samuel: Yea I have hearkened to the voice of the Lord, and have walked in the way by which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalec, and Amalec I have slain. |
| 21但是军民由当毁灭的胜利品中，选出了最好的牛羊，要在基耳加耳祭献上主，你的天主。」 | 21But the people took of the spoils sheep and oxen, as the firstfruits of those things that were slain, to offer sacrifice to the Lord their God in Galgal. |
| 22撒慕尔回答说：「上主岂能喜欢全燔祭和牺牲，胜过听从上主的命令？听命胜于祭献，服从胜过绵羊的肥油脂。 | 22And Samuel said: Doth the Lord desire holocausts and victims, and not rather that the voice of the Lord should be obeyed? For obedience is better than sacrifices: and to hearken rather than to offer the fat of rams. |
| 23背命等于行卜，顽抗与敬拜偶像无异。因为你拒绝了上主的命令，上主也拒绝了你作王。」 | 23Because it is like the sin of witchcraft, to rebel: and like the crime of idolatry, to refuse to obey. Forasmuch therefore as thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, the Lord hath also rejected thee from being king. |
| 24撒乌耳对撒慕尔说：「我犯了罪，违背了上主的命令和你的话，因我害怕人民，才听从了他们的呼声。 | 24And Saul said to Samuel: I have sinned because I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words, fearing the people, and obeying their voice. |
| 25现在，请你宽赦我的罪过，同我一起回去，让我朝拜上主。」 | 25But now bear, I beseech thee, my sin, and return with me, that I may adore the Lord. |
| 26撒慕尔却对撒乌耳说：「我不同你回去；既然你拒绝了上主的命令，上主也拒绝你，不要你作以色列王。」 | 26And Samuel said to Saul: I will not return with thee, because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. |
| 27撒慕尔转身就走，撒乌耳用力抓住他外氅的衣边，撕下了一块。 | 27And Samuel turned about to go away: but he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. |
| 28撒慕尔于是对他说：「上主今日从你身上撕下了你的王位，给了一个比你更好的人。 | 28And Samuel said to him: The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to thy neighbour who is better than thee. |
| 29并且以色列的光荣绝不发虚言，也不会懊悔，因为他不像人，可以懊悔。」 | 29But the triumpher in Israel will riot spare, and will not be moved to repentance: for he is not a mail that he should repent. |
| 30撒乌耳遂说：「我固然犯了罪，但如今请你在我民族的长老和以色列前，仍尊重我，同我一起回去，好让我朝拜上主，你的天主。」 | 30Then he said: I have sinned: yet honour me now before the ancients of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may adore the Lord thy God. |
| 31撒慕尔便随同撒乌耳一起回去，撒乌耳朝拜了上主。 | 31So Samuel turned again after Saul: and Saul adored the Lord. |
| 32以后撒慕尔说：「将阿玛肋克王阿加格给我解来！」阿加格到了他那里，很是高兴，阿加格心想：「死亡的苦的确过去了。」 | 32And Samuel said: Bring hitherto me Agag the king of Amalec. And Agag was presented to him very fat, and trembling. And Agag said: Doth bitter death separate in this manner? |
| 33撒慕尔对他说：「你的剑怎样使众多妇女丧子，你的母亲在妇女中也要怎样丧子。」撒慕尔就在基耳加耳上主面前杀了阿加格。 | 33And Samuel said: As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed him in pieces before the Lord in Galgal. |
| 34以后撒慕尔去了辣玛，撒乌耳也回了撒乌耳的基贝亚本家。 | 34And Samuel departed to Ramatha: but Saul went up to his house in Gabaa. |
| 35撒慕尔至死再没有见撒乌耳。撒慕尔为了撒乌耳很是伤心，因为，上主后悔立了撒乌耳作以色列的君王。 | 35And Samuel saw Saul no more till the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul, because the Lord repented that he had made him king over Israel. |
