¹那时培肋舍特人调集军队要进攻以色列人，阿基士对达味说：「你该知道你和你的人应协助我作战。」	¹And it came to pass in those days, that the Philistines gathered together their armies to be prepared for war against Israel: and Achis said to David: Know thou now assuredly, that thou shalt go out with me to the war, thou, and thy men.
²达味回答阿基士说：「好！你就要知道你仆人要作什么。」阿基士对达味说：「那么，我就立你常作我的护卫。」	²And David said to Achis: Now thou shalt know what thy servant will do. And Achis said to David: And I will appoint thee to guard my life for ever.
³那时，撒慕尔已死，全以色列人举丧哀悼他，把他葬在他的故乡辣玛。撒乌耳也早已将招魂的和行巫术的人驱逐出境。	³Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel mourned for him, and buried him in Ramatha his city. And Saul had put away all the magicians and soothsayers out of the land.
⁴培肋舍特人调齐以后，来到叔能扎营；撒乌耳也调集全以色列，在基耳波亚扎营。	⁴And the Philistines were gathered together, and came and camped in Sunam: and Saul also gathered together all Israel, and came to Gelboe.
⁵撒乌耳看见培肋舍特人的军营就害怕起来，心中非常恐慌，	⁵And Saul saw the army of the Plilistines, and was afraid, and his heart was very much dismayed.
⁶遂去求问上主，但上主没有藉梦境，也没有藉「乌陵」，也没有藉先知答复他。	⁶And he consulted the Lord, and he answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by priests, nor by prophets.
⁷撒乌耳便对臣仆说：「你们给我找个招魂的女巫，我愿到她那里去求问。」他的臣仆回答他说：「现今在恩多尔有个招魂的女巫。」	⁷And Saul said to his servants: Seek me a woman that hath a divining spirit, and I will go to her, and inquire by her. And his servants said to him: There is a woman that hath a divining spirit at Endor.
⁸撒乌耳就改装易服，带了两个人作伴，夜间来见那女人，对她说：「求你用招魂的法术给我占卜，将我向你所指出的人给我招上来。」	⁸Then he disguised himself: and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night, and he said to her: Divine to me by thy divining spirit, and bring me up him whom I shall tell thee.
⁹那女人回答说：「啊！你知道撒乌耳作了什么，他已经将国内招魂和行巫术的人铲除，为什么你来设陷阱害我的性命，叫我死呢？」	⁹And the woman said to him: Behold thou knowest all that Saul hath done, and how he hath rooted out the magicians and soothsayers from the land: why then dost thou lay a snare for my life, to cause me to be put to death?
¹⁰撒乌耳就指着上主对她发誓说：「上主永在！为这事你决不会受害。」	¹⁰And Saul swore unto her by the Lord, saying: As the Lord liveth there shall no evil happen to thee for this thing.
¹¹那女人问说：「要我给你招谁上来？」他答说：「你给我招撒慕尔上来。」	¹¹And the woman said to him: Whom shall I bring up to thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.
¹²那女人一看见撒慕尔，就大喊一声，对撒乌耳说：「你为什么哄骗我？你就是撒乌耳！」	¹²And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice, and said to Saul: Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul.
¹³王对她说：「不要怕！你究竟看见了什么？」那女人回答撒乌耳说：「我看见神由地中上来。」	¹³And the king said to her: Fear not: what hast thou seen? And the woman said to Saul: I saw gods ascending out of the earth.
¹⁴撒乌耳问说：「什么形状？」她答说：「上来了一位老人，身披外氅。」撒乌耳便知道这是撒慕尔，遂俯首至地下拜。	¹⁴And he said to her: What form is he of? And she said: An old man cometh up, and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul understood that it was Samuel, and he bowed himself with his face to the ground, and adored.
¹⁵撒慕尔对撒乌耳说：「为什么你扰乱我，叫我上来？」撒乌耳答说：「我很苦痛。培肋舍特人攻击我，上主已远离我，又不藉先知，也不藉梦境答复我，所以我招你上来，指教我该作什么。」	¹⁵And Samuel said to Saul: Why hast thou disturbed my rest, that I should be brought up? And Saul said, I am in great distress: for the Philistines fight against me, and God is departed from me, and would not hear me, neither by the hand of prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest shew me what I shall do.
¹⁶撒慕尔说：「上主既已离开了你，协助你的近人，你为什么还来问我？	¹⁶And Samuel said: Why askest thou me, seeing the Lord has departed from thee, and is gone over to thy rival:
¹⁷上主对你实践了他藉我所说的话：上主已由你手中夺去了王权，赐给了你的近人达味；	¹⁷For the Lord will do to thee as he spoke by me, and he will rend thy kingdom out of thy hand, and will give it to thy neighbour David:
¹⁸因为你没有听从上主的话，没有执行他对阿玛肋克所怀的盛怒，为此，上主今天这样对待了你。	¹⁸Because thou didst not obey the voice of the Lord, neither didst thou execute the wrath of his indignation upon Amalec. Therefore hath the Lord done to thee what thou sufferest this day.
¹⁹上主还要把以色列和你一起交在培肋舍特人手中；明日你和你的儿子要同我在一起；并且，上主也要把以色列军队交在培肋舍特人手中。」	¹⁹And the Lord also will deliver Israel with thee into the hands of the Philistines: and tomorrow thou and thy sons shall be with me: and the Lord will also deliver the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.
²⁰撒乌耳一听撒慕尔的话，非常恐惧，忽然跌倒在地；又因他一日一夜没有吃喝，一点力气也没有了。	²⁰And forthwith Saul fell all along on the ground, for he was frightened with the words of Samuel, and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all that day.
²¹那女人就走到撒乌耳跟前，看见他很是惊慌，就对他说：「看，你的婢女听了你的话，不顾性命，听从了你给我说的话。	²¹And the woman came to Saul (for he was very much troubled) and said to him: Behold thy handmaid hath obeyed thy voice, and I have put my life in my hand: and I hearkened unto the words which thou spokest to me.
²²现今你也该听从你婢女的话：我给你拿点食物来，你吃了，好有力气走路。」	²²Now therefore hear thou also the voice of thy handmaid, and let me set before thee a morsel of bread, that thou mayest eat and recover strength, and be able to go on thy journey.
²³他却拒绝说：「我不吃。」但是他的臣仆和那女人都勉强他，他才听从了他们的话，从地上起来，坐在床上。	²³But he refused, and said: I will not eat. But his servants and the woman forced him, and at length hearkening to their voice, he arose from the ground and sat upon the bed.
²⁴那女人在家里有头肥牛，急忙宰了，又把面调好，烤成无酵饼，	²⁴Now the woman had a fatted calf in the house, and she made haste and killed it: and taking meal kneaded it, and baked some unleavened bread,
²⁵摆在撒乌耳和臣仆面前；他们吃了以后，当夜就起身走了。	²⁵And set it before Saul, and before his servants. And when they had eaten they rose up, and walked all that night.
