撒慕尔纪上	1 Samuel
¹撒慕尔年老的时候，立了他的两个儿子作以色列的民长。	¹And it came to pass when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons to be judges over Israel.
²长子名叫约厄耳，次子名叫阿彼雅，同在贝尔舍巴作民长。	²Now the name of his firstborn son was Joel: and the name of the second was Abia, judges in Bersabee.
³但是他这两个儿子不走他所走的路，却贪图厚利，接受贿赂，歪曲正理。	³And his sons walked not in his ways: but they turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
⁴以色列众长老便联合起来，往辣玛去见撒慕尔，	⁴Then all the ancients of Israel being assembled, came to Samuel to Ramatha.
⁵对他说：「看，你已经老了，你的儿子们不走你所走的路。如今请你给我们立一位君王治理我们，如同各国一样。」	⁵And they said to him: Behold thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: make us a king, to judge us, as all nations have.
⁶撒慕尔听到他们要求说：「请给我们立一位君王治理我们」，大为不悦，便去祈求上主。	⁶And the word was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, that they should say: Give us a king, to judge us. And Samuel prayed to the Lord.
⁷上主对撒慕尔说：「凡民众向你所说的话，你都要听从，因为他们不是抛弃你，而是抛弃我作他们的君王。	⁷And the Lord said to Samuel: Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to thee. For they have not rejected thee, but me, that I should not reign over them.
⁸自从我领他们出离埃及直到今日，凡他们做的，无非是抛弃我而事奉别的神；他们现在也这样来对待你。	⁸According to all their works, they have done from the day that I brought them out of Egypt until this day: as they have forsaken me, and served strange gods, so do they also unto thee.
⁹好罢！你就听从他们的要求，但必须清楚警告他们，要他们明了那统治他们的君王所享有的权利。」	⁹Now therefore hearken to their voice: but yet testify to them, and foretell them the right of the king, that shall reign over them.
¹⁰撒慕尔把上主的一切话，转告给那向他要求君王的人民，	¹⁰Then Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people that had desired a king of him,
¹¹说：「那要统治你们的君王所享有的权利是：他要征用你们的儿子，去充当车夫马夫，在他的车前奔走；	¹¹And said: This will be the right of the king, that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and put them in his chariots, and will make them his horsemen, and his running footmen to run before his chariots,
¹²委派他们做千夫长、百夫长、五十夫长；令他们耕种他的田地，收割他的庄稼，替他制造作战的武器和战车的用具；	¹²And he will appoint of them to be his tribunes, and centurions, and to plough his fields, and to reap his corn, and to make him arms and chariots.
¹³要征用你们的女儿为他配制香料，烹调食物；	¹³Your daughters also he will take to make him ointments, and to be his cooks, and bakers.
¹⁴要拿你们最好的庄田、葡萄园和橄榄林，赐给他的臣仆；	¹⁴And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your best oliveyards, and give them to his servants.
¹⁵征收你们庄田和葡萄园出产的十分之一，赐给他的宦官和臣仆；	¹⁵Moreover he will take the tenth of your corn, and of the revenues of your vineyards, to give his eunuchs and servants.
¹⁶使用你们的仆婢和你们最好的牛驴，替他作工；	¹⁶Your servants also and handmaids, and your goodliest young men, and your asses he will take away, and put them to his work.
¹⁷征收你们的羊群十分之一；至于你们自己，还应作他的奴隶。	¹⁷Your flocks also he will tithe, and you shall be his servants.
¹⁸到那一天，你们必要因你们所选的君王发出哀号；但那一天，上主也不理你们了。」	¹⁸And you shall cry out in that day from the face of the king, whom you have chosen to yourselves. and the Lord will not hear you in that day, because you desired unto yourselves a king.
¹⁹但是，人民不愿听从撒慕尔的话，却对他说：「不！我们非要一位君王管理我们不可。	¹⁹But the people would not hear the voice of Samuel, and they said: Nay: but there shall be a king over us.
²⁰我们也要像一般异民一样，有我们的君王来治理我们，率领我们出征作战。」	²⁰And we also will be like all nations: and our king shall judge us, and go out before us, and tight our battles for us.
²¹撒慕尔听见百姓所说的这一切话，就转告给上主听。	²¹And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.
²²上主对撒慕尔说：「你听从他们的话，给他们一位君王罢！」撒慕尔就吩咐以色列人说：「你们各自暂回本城去。」	²²And the Lord said to Samuel: Hearken to their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel: Let every man go to his city.
