¹雅各伯定居在他父亲作客的客纳罕地方。	¹And Jacob dwelt in the land of Chanaan wherein his father sojourned.
²以下是雅各伯的小史。若瑟十七岁时，与哥哥们一同放羊。他尚年幼，常与自己的父亲的妻子彼耳哈和齐耳帕的儿子们在一起。他不断将他们作的恶事报告给父亲。	²And these are his generations: Joseph, when he was sixteen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren, being but a boy: and he was with the sons of Bala and of Zelpha his father's wives: and he accused his brethren to his father of a most wicked crime.
³以色列爱若瑟超过其他的儿子，因为是他年老生的，并给他做了一件彩色长衫。	³Now Israel loved Joseph above all his sons, because he had him in his old age: and he made him a coat of divers colours.
⁴他的哥哥们见父亲爱他胜过其余的儿子，就忌恨他，不能与他和气交谈。	⁴And his brethren seeing that he was loved by his father, more than all his sons, hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.
⁵若瑟作了一梦，讲给哥哥们听，因此他们越发恼恨他。	⁵Now it fell out also that he told his brethren a dream, that he had dreamed: which occasioned them to hate him the more.
⁶他对他们说：「请听我作的梦：	⁶And he said to them: Hear my dream which I dreamed.
⁷我梦见我们同在田中捆麦子，忽然我的麦捆站起来，你们的麦捆围住我的麦捆下拜。」	⁷I thought we were binding sheaves in the field: and my sheaf arose as it were, and stood, and your sheaves standing about, bowed down before my sheaf.
⁸他哥哥们对他说：「难道你要作我们的君王？或者统治我们？」他们为了这梦和这番话，越发恼恨他。	⁸His brethren answered: Shalt thou be our king? or shall we be subject to thy dominion? Therefore this matter of his dreams and words ministered nourishment to their envy and hatred.
⁹他又作了一梦，也告诉他哥哥们说：「我又作了一梦：梦见太阳和月亮并十一颗星辰向我下拜。」	⁹He dreamed also another dream, which he told his brethren, saying: I saw in a dream, as it were the sun, and the moon, and eleven stars worshipping me.
¹⁰当他给父亲和哥哥们讲说这梦时，他父亲就责斥他说：「你作的是什么梦？难道我和你母亲以及你的兄弟，都要来向你叩首至地？」	¹⁰And when he had told this to his father and brethren, his father rebuked him, and said: What meaneth this dream that thou hast dreamed? shall I and thy mother, and thy brethren worship thee upon the earth?
¹¹他兄弟们都忌恨他；他父亲却将这事存在心里。	¹¹His brethren therefore envied him: but his father considered the thing with himself.
¹²若瑟的哥哥们去了舍根，放他们父亲的羊。	¹²And when his brethren abode in Sichem feeding their father's flocks,
¹³以色列对若瑟说：「你哥哥们不是在舍根放羊么？来，我打发你去看看他们。」他回答说：「我在这里。」	¹³Israel said to him: Thy brethren feed the sheep in Sichem: come, I will send thee to them. And when he answered:
¹⁴以色列对他说：「你去看看你哥哥们是否平安，羊群怎样；然后回来告诉我。」以色列便打发他由赫贝龙山谷前去；他到了舍根。	¹⁴I am ready: he said to him: Go, and see if all things be well with thy brethren, and the cattle: and bring me word again what is doing. So being sent from the vale of Hebron, he came to Sichem:
¹⁵有一个人见他在田间游荡，那人就问他说：「你寻找什么？」	¹⁵And a man found him there wandering in the field, and asked what he sought.
¹⁶他答说：「我寻找我的哥哥；请告诉我：他们在那里放羊？」	¹⁶But he answered: I seek my brethren; tell me where they feed the flocks.
¹⁷那人答说：「他们已离开了这里；我听见他们说：我们到多堂去。」于是若瑟便去追寻他的哥哥，在多堂找到了。	¹⁷And the man said to him: They are departed from this place: for I heard them say: Let us go to Dothain. And Joseph went forward after his brethren, and found them in Dothain.
¹⁸他们老远就看见了他；在他尚未来近以前，就已决定要谋杀他。	¹⁸And when they saw him afar off, before he came nigh them, they thought to kill him.
¹⁹他们彼此说：「看，那作梦的人来了！	¹⁹And said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh.
²⁰我们杀掉他，将他抛在一口井里，说是猛兽吃了。看他的梦还有什么用？」	²⁰Come, let us kill him, and cast him into some old pit: and we will say: Some evil beast hath devoured him: and then it shall appear what his dreams avail him:
²¹勒乌本听了，就设法由他们手中救他，遂说：「我们不要害他！」	²¹And Ruben hearing this, endeavoured to deliver him out of their hands, and said:
²²勒乌本又对他们说：「你们不要流血；只将他丢在这旷野的井里，不可下手害他。」他的意思是想由他们手中救出他来，还给父亲。	²²Do not take away his life, nor shed his blood: but cast him into this pit, that is in the wilderness, and keep your hands harmless: now he said this, being desirous to deliver him out of their hands and to restore him to his father.
²³若瑟一来到他哥哥们那里，他们就脱去了他穿的那件彩色长衣，抓住他，把他丢在井里；	²³And as soon as he came to his brethren, they forthwith stript him of his outside coat, that was of divers colours:
²⁴那井是空的，里面没有水。	²⁴And cast him into an old pit, where there was no water.
²⁵他们坐下吃饭时，举目看见一队由基肋阿得来的依市玛耳人；他们的骆驼满载树胶、香液和香料，要下到埃及去。	²⁵And sitting down to eat bread, they saw some Ismaelites on their way coming from Galaad, with their camels, carrying spices, and balm, and myrrh to Egypt.
²⁶犹大遂对兄弟们说：「杀害我们的弟弟，隐瞒他的血，究竟有什么益处？	²⁶And Juda said to his brethren: What will it profit us to kill our brother, and conceal his blood?
²⁷不如将他卖给依市玛耳人，免得对他下毒手，因为他究竟是我们的兄弟，是我们的骨肉。」兄弟们听从了他的意见。	²⁷It is better that he be sold to the Ismaelites, and that our hands be not defiled: for he is our brother and our flesh. His brethren agreed to his words.
²⁸米德杨的商人经过那里时，他们便从井中拉出若瑟来，以二十块银钱卖给了依市玛耳人；他们便将若瑟带到埃及去了。	²⁸And when the Madianite merchants passed by, they drew him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ismaelites, for twenty pieces of silver: and they led him into Egypt.
²⁹勒乌本回到井边，不见若瑟在井内，遂撕裂了自己的衣服，	²⁹And Ruben, returning to the pit, found not the boy:
³⁰回到兄弟们那里喊说：「孩子不见了！我可往那里去呢？」	³⁰And rending his garments he went to his brethren, and said: The boy doth not appear and whither shall I go?
³¹他们于是拿了若瑟的长衣，杀了一只公山羊，将长衣浸在血里；	³¹And they took his coat, and dipped it in the blood of a kid, which they had killed:
³²然后派人将那件彩色的长衣送给他们的父亲说：「这是我们寻得的，请你仔细看看，是不是你儿子的长衣？」	³²Sending some to carry it to their father, and to say: This we have found: see whether it be thy son's coat, or not.
³³雅各伯仔细一看，就喊说：「是我儿子的长衣；猛兽将他吃了。若瑟被撕裂了，被撕裂了！」	³³And the father acknowledging it, said: It is my son's coat, an evil wild beast hath eaten him, a beast hath devoured Joseph.
³⁴雅各伯遂撕裂了自己的衣服，腰间围上麻衣，为自己的儿子悲哀了多日。	³⁴And tearing his garments, he put on sackcloth, mourning for his son a long time.
³⁵虽然他的儿女都来安慰他，他却不肯接受他们的安慰，说：「我只有悲哀地下到阴间，往我儿那里去！」他的父亲竟这样哀悼他。	³⁵And all his children being gathered together to comfort their father in his sorrow, he would not receive comfort, but said: I will go down to my son into hell, mourning. And whilst he continued weeping,
³⁶米德杨人后来在埃及将若瑟卖给了法郎的内臣，卫队长普提法尔。	³⁶The Madianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Putiphar, an eunuch of Pharao, captain of the soldiers.
