| 1特曼人厄里法次接着说： | 1Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said: |
| 2人为天主能有什么益处？明智人只能于一己有益。 | 2Can man be compared with God, even though he were of perfect knowledge? |
| 3纵然你公正，对全能者能有什么好处？纵然你品行齐全，对天主有什么利益？ | 3What doth it profit God if thou be just? or what dost thou give him if thy way be unspotted? |
| 4他岂能因你敬畏之心而责斥你，拉你来听审？ | 4Shall he reprove thee for fear, and come with thee into judgment: |
| 5岂不是因为你罪恶多端，罪过无穷？ | 5And not for thy manifold wickedness, and thy infinite iniquities? |
| 6因为你无理地强取了你兄弟的抵押，剥去了人的衣服，使之赤裸； | 6For thou hast taken away the pledge of thy brethren without cause, and stripped the naked of their clothing. |
| 7口渴的人，你没有给他水喝；饥饿的人，你没有给他饭吃； | 7Thou hast not given water to the weary, thou hast withdrawn bread from the hungry. |
| 8让强有力的人占有土地，让尊贵体面的人住在其中； | 8In the strength of thy arm thou didst possess the land, and being the most mighty thou holdest it. |
| 9却使寡妇空手而归，折断孤儿的手臂； | 9Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless thou hast broken in pieces. |
| 10因此罗网要四面围困你，恐吓突降，使你惊惶。 | 10Therefore art thou surrounded with snares, and sudden fear troubleth thee. |
| 11光明变成黑暗，使你毫无所见；洪水漫漫，将你淹没。 | 11And didst thou think that thou shouldst not see darkness, and that thou shouldst not be covered with the violence of overflowing waters? |
| 12天主岂不是居于高天？看，最高的星辰何其高远？ | 12Dost not thou think that God is higher than heaven, and is elevated above the height of the stars? |
| 13你曾说过：「天主知道什么？他岂能透过黑云施行审判？ | 13And thou sayst: What doth God know? and he judgeth as it were through a mist. |
| 14云彩遮蔽着他，使他看不到什么，而他只在天边周围游行。」 | 14The clouds are his covert, and he doth not consider our things, and he walketh about the poles of heaven. |
| 15你岂要固守恶人所蹈的故辙？ | 15Dost thou desire to keep the path of ages, which wicked men have trodden? |
| 16尚未到时，他们已被攫去，大水冲去了他们的基础。 | 16Who were taken away before their time, and a flood hath overthrown their foundation. |
| 17他们曾向天主说：「离开我们！全能者能为我们作什么？」 | 17Who said to God: Depart from us: and looked upon the Almighty as if he could do nothing: |
| 18他原来是以福利充满了他们的家，可是恶人的思想离他很远。 | 18Whereas he had filled their houses with good things: whose way of thinking be far from me. |
| 19义人见了就欢乐，无罪者也讥笑他们说： | 19The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorn. |
| 20「的确，他们的财富已被消灭，他们所剩余的皆被火焚毁。」 | 20Is not their exaltation cut down, and hath not fire devoured the remnants of them? |
| 21请你与他亲善和好，借此你的幸福必得恢复。 | 21Submit thyself then to him, and be at peace: and thereby thou shalt have the best fruits. |
| 22请你领受他口中的教训，将他的话存在心中。 | 22Receive the law of his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart. |
| 23如果你归向全能者，你必兴起；你若使邪恶离开你的帐幕， | 23If thou wilt return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, and shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacle. |
| 24视金子如尘埃，视敖非尔金如溪石， | 24He shall give for earth flint, and for flint torrents of gold. |
| 25全能者必作为你的精金，作为你的银堆。 | 25And the Almighty shall be against thy enemies, and silver shall be heaped together for thee. |
| 26那时你必以全能者为喜乐，向天主仰起你的头来。 | 26Then shalt thou abound in delights in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face to God. |
| 27那时你祈求他，他必应允你；你可向他还你的誓愿。 | 27Thou shalt pray to him, and he will hear thee, and thou shalt pay vows. |
| 28你决定的事，事必成就；光明要照耀你的道路， | 28Thou shalt decree a thing, and it I shall come to thee, and light shall shine in thy ways. |
| 29因为他压伏骄傲的人，拯救低首下心的人。 | 29For he that hath been humbled, shall be in glory: and he that shall bow down his eyes, he shall be saved. |
| 30他必解救无罪的人；你若手中清廉，你必获救。 | 30The innocent shall be saved, and he shall be saved by the cleanness of his hands. |
