| 1特曼人厄里法次开始说： | 1Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said: |
| 2人若和你讲话，你能忍受吗？但谁又能忍住不说？ | 2If we begin to speak to thee, perhaps thou wilt take it ill, but who can withhold the words he hath conceived? |
| 3看，你曾劝戒过许多人，坚固过软弱无能的人； | 3Behold thou hast taught many, and thou hast strengthened the weary hands: |
| 4你的话扶起了跌倒的人，坚固了膝弱无力的人； | 4Thy words have confirmed them that were staggering, and thou hast strengthened the trembling knees: |
| 5但是现今灾祸一临于你，你就萎靡不振；一接触你，你就沮丧失意。 | 5But now the scourge is come upon thee, and thou faintest: it hath touched thee, and thou art troubled. |
| 6你敬畏天主之情，岂不是你的依靠？你完善的行为，岂不是你的希望？ | 6Where is thy fear, thy fortitude, thy patience, and the perfection of thy ways? |
| 7请想：那有无辜者丧亡？那有正直者消逝？ | 7Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished being innocent? or when were the just destroyed? |
| 8照我所见：那播种邪恶的，必收邪恶；散布毒害的，必收毒害。 | 8On the contrary I have seen those who work iniquity, and sow sorrows, and reap them, |
| 9天主一嘘气，他们即灭亡；一发怒气，他们即消失。 | 9Perishing by the blast of God, and consumed by the spirit of his wrath. |
| 10狮吼豹嗥完全止息，幼狮的牙齿也被打碎； | 10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, and the teeth of the whelps of lions are broken: |
| 11壮狮因缺猎物而灭绝，牝狮幼子各自东西离散。 | 11The tiger hath perished for want of prey, and the young lions are scattered abroad. |
| 12我窃听到一句话，我耳听见细语声。 | 12Now there was a word spoken to me in private, and my ears by stealth as it were received the veins of its whisper. |
| 13当人沉睡时，夜梦多幻象； | 13In the horror of a vision by night, when deep sleep is wont to hold men, |
| 14我恐怖战栗，全身骨头发抖。 | 14Fear seized upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were affrighted: |
| 15寒风掠过我面，使我毛发悚然。 | 15And when a spirit passed before me, the hair of my flesh stood up. |
| 16他停立不动，但我不能辨其形状；我面前出现形影，我听见细微的声音： | 16There stood one whose countenance I knew not, an image before my eyes, and I heard the voice as it were of a gentle wind: |
| 17人岂能在天主前自以为义？在造他者前，自以为洁？ | 17Shall man be justified in comparison of God, or shall a man be more pure than his maker? |
| 18看，他的仆役，他还不信；他的使者，他还归罪， | 18Behold they that serve him are not steadfast, and in his angels he found wickedness: |
| 19何况那以泥屋为居所，以尘土为基础的人！他们为人践踏，有如蠹虫； | 19How much more shall they that dwell in houses of clay, who have an earthly foundation, be consumed as with the moth? |
| 20晨昏间即化为齑粉，永远消亡而无人一顾。 | 20From morning till evening they shall be cut down: and because no one understandeth, they shall perish for ever. |
| 21幕索如已自断，他们岂不是因缺少智慧而死亡？ | 21And they that shall be left, shall be taken away from them: they shall die, and not in wisdom. |
