约伯传	Job
¹约伯答复说：	¹And Job answered, and said:
²我确实知道事情是这样，但人怎能同天主讲理？	²Indeed I know it is so, and that man cannot be justified compared with God.
³人若愿意同天主辩论，千个问题中，谁也回答不出一个。	³If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one for a thousand.
⁴虽心中明智，力量强大，但谁能对抗天主，而保平安？	⁴He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?
⁵他可移山，山却不知；他一发怒，山即翻转；	⁵Who hath removed mountains, and they whom he overthrew in his wrath, knew it not.
⁶他振摇大地，使之脱离原处，地柱随之摇撼震动；	⁶Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
⁷他一下令，太阳即不升起，星辰即封闭不动；	⁷Who commandeth tile sun and it riseth not: and shutteth up the stars as it were under a seal:
⁸惟有他展开天空，步行海波之上；	⁸Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and walketh upon the waves of the sea.
⁹他创造了北斗和参宿，昴星及南极星辰；	⁹Who maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and Hyades, and the inner parts of the south.
¹⁰他所作的大事，不可胜数。	¹⁰Who doth things great and incomprehensible, and wonderful, of which there is no number.
¹¹他由我身旁经过，我却没有看见；他走过去，我仍没有发觉。	¹¹If he come to me, I shall not see him: if he depart I shall not understand.
¹²他若抢夺，谁能阻挡？谁能问他说：「你作什么？」	¹²If he examine on a sudden, who shall answer him? or who can say: Why dost thou so?
¹³天主一愤怒，决不收回。为老虎作伥的，必屈伏在他以下。	¹³God, whose wrath no man can resist, and under whom they stoop that bear up the world.
¹⁴如此我怎敢回答，我怎敢措辞与他抗辩？	¹⁴What am I then, that I should answer him, and have words with him?
¹⁵纵然有理，也不敢回答，惟有哀求我的判官开恩。	¹⁵I, who although I should have any just thing, would not answer, but would make supplication to my judge.
¹⁶我向他呼求，纵然他答应我，我仍不相信他会听我的呼声。	¹⁶And if he should hear me when I call, I should not believe that he had heard my voice.
¹⁷他为了一根头发而折磨我，无故增加我的创伤；	¹⁷For he shall crush me in a whirlwind, and multiply my wounds even without cause.
¹⁸致使我不能喘一口气，使我饱尝苦辛。	¹⁸He alloweth not my spirit to rest, and he filleth me with bitterness.
¹⁹论力量，他强而有力；论审判，谁能将他传来？	¹⁹If strength be demanded, he is most strong: if equity of judgment, no man dare bear witness for me.
²⁰我虽自以为正义，他的口却判定我有罪；我虽自觉无辜，他却证明我有偏差。	²⁰If I would justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: if I would shew myself innocent, he shall prove me wicked.
²¹我是无辜的，我已不顾及我的生命，我已厌恶生活下去。	²¹Although I should be simple, even this my soul shall be ignorant of, and I shall be weary of my life.
²²因此我说：都是一样。善人恶人，他一概灭绝。	²²One thing there is that I have spoken, both the innocent and the wicked he consumeth.
²³若天灾突然降下使人猝死，他便嘲笑无罪者的绝望。	²³If he scourge, let him kill at once, and not laugh at the pains of the innocent.
²⁴大地落在恶人的手里，蒙蔽判官脸面的，不是他是谁呢？	²⁴The earth is given into the hand of the wicked, he covereth the face of the judges thereof: and if it be not he, who is it then?
²⁵我的日月过去比跑信的还快；疾走而过，无福乐可享。	²⁵My days have been swifter than a post: they have fled away and have not seen good.
²⁶急急驶过，似芦苇船，如骤降攫食的鹰。	²⁶They have passed by as ships carrying fruits, as an eagle flying to the prey.
²⁷我若决意忘掉我的哀怨，改变愁容，表示愉快；	²⁷If I say: I will not speak so: I change my face, and am tormented with sorrow.
²⁸但一想到我的痛苦，我就恐怖。我知道你决不以我为无辜。	²⁸I feared all my works, knowing that thou didst not spare the offender.
²⁹我若是有罪，又何苦白费心血？	²⁹But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?
³⁰我即便用雪洗我身，用碱水洗我手，	³⁰If I be washed as it were with snow waters, and my hands shall shine ever so clean:
³¹你却把我浸在泥坑内，甚至我的衣服都憎恶我。	³¹Yet thou shalt plunge me in filth, and my garments shall abhor me,
³²因为他不像我是个人，使我能答复他，或让我们同去听审。	³²For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.
³³在我们中间没有仲裁，可按手在我们两造之间。	³³There is none that may be able to reprove both, and to put his hand between both.
³⁴但愿他的棍杖远离我，他的威严不要恐吓我，	³⁴Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me.
³⁵我好能讲话而不害怕；但是如今我并非如此。	³⁵I will speak, and will not fear him: for I cannot answer while I am in fear.
