| 1上主的话传给培突耳的儿子岳厄尔： | 1The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Phatuel. |
| 2老人们，你们应听这事！地上的一切居民，你们应侧耳细听！在你们的时日，或在你们祖先的时日，是否曾有过这样的事？ | 2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land: did this ever happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers? |
| 3你们应将这事告诉你们的子孙；你们的子孙应传给他们的子孙；他们的子孙又应传给下一代： | 3Tell ye of this to your children, and let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation. |
| 4蝻子吃剩的，飞蝗来吃了；飞蝗吃剩的，螽斯来吃了；螽斯吃剩的，蚱蜢来吃了。 | 4That which the palmerworm hath left, the locust hath eaten: and that which the locust hath left, the bruchus hath eaten: and that which the bruchus hath left, the mildew hath destroyed. |
| 5醉汉，你们醒来恸哭罢！一切爱喝酒的人，为了新酒悲泣罢！因为已由你们嘴边夺去了。 | 5Awake, ye that are drunk, and weep, and mourn all ye that take delight in drinking sweet wine: for it is cut off from your mouth. |
| 6因为有一个民族侵入了我的地域，既强大而又不可胜数；他们的牙有如狮子的牙，臼齿有如母狮的臼齿。 | 6For a nation is come up upon my land, strong and without number: his teeth are like the teeth of a lion: and his cheek teeth as of a lion's whelp. |
| 7他们蹂躏了我的葡萄园，折断了我的无花果树，将树皮完全剥掉，使树枝光秃发白。 | 7He hath laid my vineyard waste, and hath pilled off the bark of my fig tree: he hath stripped it bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. |
| 8你哀伤罢！如同一个身披丧服的处女，哀哭她青年的未婚夫。 | 8Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. |
| 9上主殿中的素祭和奠祭已中断；上主的仆人──司祭都悲哀不已。 | 9Sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of the Lord: the priests, the Lord's ministers, have mourned: |
| 10田园已荒废，土地已悽凉；因为五谷已遭蹂躏，美酒已枯竭，油已干涸。 | 10The country is destroyed, the ground hath mourned: for the corn is wasted, the wine is confounded, the oil hath languished. |
| 11农夫，你们应哀哭！葡萄园丁，你们应为了小麦和大麦而号咷！因为田园的出产巳遭破坏。 | 11The husbandmen are ashamed, the vinedressers have howled for the wheat, and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is perished. |
| 12葡萄树枯槁了，无花果树凋谢了；石榴树、棕树、苹果树，以及田间的一切果树都枯死了；为此喜乐已由人间消失。 | 12The vineyard is confounded, and the fig tree hath languished: the pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the apple tree, and all the trees of the field are withered: because joy is withdrawn from the children of men. |
| 13司祭，你们应披上麻衣而哀悼！服务祭坛的人，你们应号咷！我天主的仆人，你们应进来，披上麻衣过夜！因为素祭和奠祭在你们天主的殿内已中断了。 | 13Gird yourselves, and lament, O ye priests, howl, ye ministers of the altars: go in, lie in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: because sacrifice and libation is cut off from the house of your God. |
| 14你们应制定一个斋期，召开一个盛会，聚集长老和当地的一切居民，在上主你们天主的殿内，向上主呼号。 | 14Sanctify ye a fast, call an assembly; gather together the ancients, all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God: and cry ye to the Lord: |
| 15啊，那日子啊！上主的日子来近了，它来有如全能者施行毁灭。 | 15Ah, ah, ah, for the day: because the day of the Lord is at hand, and it shall come like destruction from the mighty. |
| 16食物不是在我们眼前断绝了吗？喜乐和欢欣不是离开了我们天主的殿吗？ | 16Is not your food cut off before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God? |
| 17麦粒已在土块下腐烂，粮仓业已荒废，廪房业已坍塌，因为五谷都枯死了。 | 17The beasts have rotted in their dung, the barns are destroyed, the storehouses are broken down: because the corn is confounded. |
| 18牲畜为什么悲鸣？牛群为什么徬徨？因为没有了草场；连羊群也感绝望。 | 18Why did the beast groan, why did the herds of cattle low? because there is no pasture for them: yea, and the flocks of sheep are perished. |
| 19上主，我向你呼号，因为烈火吞灭了原野的牧场，火焰焚烧了田间的一切树木。 | 19To thee, O Lord, will I cry: because fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness, and the flame hath burnt all the trees of the country. |
| 20连野兽也向你恳切哀鸣，因为水流已枯竭，烈火又吞灭了原野的牧场。 | 20Yea and the beasts of the field have looked up to thee, as a garden bed that thirsteth after rain, for the springs of waters are dried up, and fire hath devoured the beautiful places of the wilderness. |
