| 1阿彼默肋客之后，有依撒加尔人多多的孙子，普阿的儿子托拉起来拯救以色列。他住在厄弗辣因山地的沙米尔， | 1After Abimelech there arose a ruler in Israel, Thola son of Phua the uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who dwelt in Samir of mount Ephraim: |
| 2作以色列民长有二十三年之久，死后葬在沙米尔。 | 2And he judged Israel three and twenty years, and he died and was buried in Samir. |
| 3在他以后，有基肋阿得人雅依尔兴起，作以色列民长二十二年之久。 | 3To him succeeded Jair the Galaadite, who judged Israel for two and twenty years. |
| 4他有三十个儿子，骑着三十匹驴驹；他们有三十座城，这些城称作哈沃特雅依尔，直到今日，都在基肋阿得地。 | 4Having thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and were princes of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, until this present day in the land of Galaad. |
| 5雅依尔死后埋葬在卡孟。 | 5And Jair died: and was buried in the place which was called Camon. |
| 6那时以色列子民又行了上主视为恶的事，事奉巴耳和阿市托勒特众神，以及阿兰的神，漆冬的神，摩阿布的神，阿孟子民的神，培肋舍特人的神；他们背弃上主，不事奉他。 | 6But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines: and they left the Lord, and did not serve him. |
| 7上主向以色列发怒，把他们交在培肋舍特人和阿孟子民手中。 | 7And the Lord being angry with them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and of the children of Ammon. |
| 8从那一年起，他们迫害压制以色列子民，即所有住在约但河对岸，在阿摩黎人境内基肋阿得地方的以色列子民，一连十八年。 | 8And they were afflicted, and grievously oppressed for eighteen years, all they that dwelt beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorrhite, who is in Galaad: |
| 9阿孟子民也过约但河来攻击犹大、本雅明和厄弗辣因家族；因此以色列很是困苦。 | 9Insomuch that the children of Ammon passing over the Jordan, wasted Juda and Benjamin and Ephraim: and Israel was distressed exceedingly. |
| 10以色列子民遂向上主呼吁说：「我们得罪了你，因为我们背弃了我们的天主，事奉了巴耳诸神！」 | 10And they cried to the Lord, and said: We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken the Lord our God, and have served Baalim. |
| 11上主对以色列子民说：「当埃及人、阿摩黎人、阿孟子民、培肋舍特人、 | 11And the Lord said to them: Did not the Egyptians and the Amorrhites, and the children of Ammon and the Philistines, |
| 12漆冬人、阿玛肋克人、米德杨人难为你们的时候，你们向我哀号，我岂没有从他们手中拯救了你们？ | 12The Sidonians also and Amalec and Chanaan oppress you, and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand? |
| 13但是你们背弃了我，事奉了别的神，因此我不再拯救你们， | 13And yet you have forsaken me, and have worshipped strange gods: therefore I will deliver you no more: |
| 14去呼吁你们所选择的神罢！让他们在你们遭难时来拯救你们！」 | 14Go and call upon the gods which you have chosen: let them deliver you in the time of distress. |
| 15以色列子民对上主说：「我们犯了罪，你任意对待我们，只求你今日援救我们！」 | 15And the children of Israel said to the Lord: We have sinned, do thou unto us whatsoever pleaseth thee: only deliver us this time. |
| 16以色列子民遂从他们中间除去外邦的神，而事奉上主；上主再不能容忍以色列受苦。 | 16And saying these things, they cast away out of their coasts all the idols of strange gods and served the Lord their God: and he was touched with their miseries. |
| 17那时阿孟子民集合在基肋阿得扎营，以色列子民也集合在米兹帕安营。 | 17And the children of Ammon shouting together, pitched their tents in Galaad: against whom the children of Israel assembled themselves together and camped in Maspha. |
| 18基肋阿得人民的首领彼此说：「谁开始攻打阿孟子民，谁就作全基肋阿得居民的首领。」 | 18And the princes of Galaad said one to another: Whosoever of us shall first begin to fight against the children of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Galaad. |
