¹德敖斐罗钧座：关于在我们中间所完成的事蹟，已有许多人，依照那些自始亲眼见过，并为真道服役的人所传给我们的，着手编成了记述，我也从起头仔细访查了一切，遂立意按着次第给你写出来，	¹Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a narration of the things that have been accomplished among us;
²为使你认清给你所讲授的道理，正确无误。	²According as they have delivered them unto us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word:
³在犹太王黑落德的时候，阿彼雅班中有一位司祭名叫匝加利亚，他的妻子是出于亚郎的后代，名叫依撒伯尔。	³It seemed good to me also, having diligently attained to all things from the beginning, to write to thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
⁴二人在天主前是义人，都照上主的一切诫命和礼规行事，无可指摘。	⁴That thou mayest know the verity of those words in which thou hast been instructed.
⁵但是，他们没有孩子，因为依撒伯尔素不生育，两人又都上了年纪。	⁵There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zachary, of the course of Abia; and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.
⁶正逢匝加利亚轮着他的班次，在天主前尽司祭的职务时，	⁶And they were both just before God, walking in all the commandments and justifications of the Lord without blame.
⁷按着司祭的常例，他抽中了签，得进上主的圣所献香。	⁷And they had no son, for that Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
⁸献香的时候，众百姓都在外面祈祷。	⁸And it came to pass, when he executed the priestly function in the order of his course before God,
⁹有一位上主的天使站在香坛右边显现给他。	⁹According to the custom of the priestly office, it was his lot to offer incense, going into the temple of the Lord.
¹⁰匝加利亚一见，惊惶失措，害怕起来；	¹⁰And all the multitude of the people was praying without, at the hour of incense.
¹¹但天使向他说：「匝加利亚，不要害怕！因为你的祈祷已蒙应允，你的妻子依撒伯尔要给你生一个儿子，你要给他起名叫若翰。	¹¹And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the alter of incense.
¹²你必要喜乐欢跃，许多人也要因他的诞生而喜乐，	¹²And Zachary seeing him, was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
¹³因为他在上主面前将是伟大的，淡酒浓酒他都不喝，而且，他还在母胎中就要充满圣神；	¹³But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachary, for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John:
¹⁴他要使许多以色列子民转向上主，他们的天主；	¹⁴And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice in his nativity.
¹⁵他要以厄里亚的精神和能力，在他前面先行，使为父的心转向儿子，使悖逆者转向义人的心意，并为上主准备一个善良的百姓。」	¹⁵For he shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
¹⁶匝加利亚遂向天使说：「我凭着什么能知道这事呢？因为我已经老了，我的妻子也上了年纪。」	¹⁶And he shall convert many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
¹⁷天使回答说：「我是站在天主面前的加俾额尔，奉命来向你说话，报给你这个喜讯。	¹⁷And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias; that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children, and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.
¹⁸看，你必成为哑吧，不能说话，直到这些事成就的那一天，因为你没有相信我的话；但我的话届时必要应验。」	¹⁸And Zachary said to the angel: Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.
¹⁹百姓等候匝加利亚，都奇怪他滞留在圣所内。	¹⁹And the angel answering, said to him: I am Gabriel, who stand before God: and am sent to speak to thee, and to bring thee these good tidings.
²⁰及至他出来后，竟不能与他们讲话，他们这才知道他在圣所中见了异象；他已成了哑吧，只给他们打手势。	²⁰And behold, thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be able to speak until the day wherein these things shall come to pass, because thou hast not believed my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.
²¹他供职的日期一满，就回了家。	²¹And the people were waiting for Zachary; and they wondered that he tarried so long in the temple.
²²几天以后，他的妻子依撒伯尔受了孕，自己躲藏了五个月，说：	²²And when he came out, he could not speak to them: and they understood that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he made signs to them, and remained dumb.
²³「上主在眷顾的日子这样待了我，除去了我在人间的耻辱。」	²³And it came to pass, after the days of his office were accomplished, he departed to his own house.
²⁴到了第六个月，天使加俾额尔奉天主差遣，往加里肋亚一座名叫纳匝肋的城去，	²⁴And after those days, Elizabeth his wife conceived, and hid herself five months, saying:
²⁵到一位童贞女那里，她已与达味家族中的一个名叫若瑟的男子订了婚，童贞女的名字叫玛利亚。	²⁵Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he hath had regard to take away my reproach among men.
²⁶天使进去向她说：「万福！充满恩宠者，上主与你同在！」【在女人中你是蒙祝福的。】	²⁶And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
²⁷她却因这话惊惶不安，便思虑这样的请安有什么意思。	²⁷To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
²⁸天使对她说：「玛利亚，不要害怕，因为你在天主前获得了宠幸。	²⁸And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
²⁹看，你将怀孕生子，并要给他起名叫耶稣。	²⁹Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.
³⁰他将是伟大的，并被称为至高者的儿子，上主天主要把他祖先达味的御座赐给他。	³⁰And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.
³¹他要为王统治雅各伯家，直到永远；他的王权没有终结。」	³¹Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus.
³²玛利亚便向天使说：「这事怎能成就？因为我不认识男人。」	³²He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.
³³天使答复她说：「圣神要临于你，至高者的能力要庇廕你，因此，那要诞生的圣者，将称为天主的儿子。	³³And of his kingdom there shall be no end.
³⁴且看，你的亲戚依撒伯尔，她虽在老年，却怀了男胎，本月已六个月了，她原是素称不生育的，	³⁴And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man?
³⁵因为在天主前没有不能的事。」	³⁵And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
³⁶玛利亚说：「看！上主的婢女，愿照你的话成就于我罢！」天使便离开她去了。	³⁶And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:
³⁷玛利亚就在那几日起身，急速往山区去，到了犹大的一座城。	³⁷Because no word shall be impossible with God.
³⁸她进了匝加利亚的家，就给依撒伯尔请安。	³⁸And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
³⁹依撒伯尔一听到玛利亚请安，胎儿就在她的腹中欢跃。依撒伯尔遂充满了圣神，	³⁹And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda.
⁴⁰大声呼喊说：「在女人中你是蒙祝福的，你的胎儿也是蒙祝福的。	⁴⁰And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.
⁴¹吾主的母亲驾临我这里，这是我那里得来的呢？	⁴¹And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
⁴²看，你请安的声音一入我耳，胎儿就在我腹中欢喜踊跃。	⁴²And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
⁴³那信了由上主传于她的话必要完成的，是有福的。」	⁴³And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
⁴⁴玛利亚遂说：「我的灵魂颂扬上主，	⁴⁴For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
⁴⁵我的心神欢跃于天主，我的救主，	⁴⁵And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.
⁴⁶因为他垂顾了她婢女的卑微，今后万世万代都要称我有福；	⁴⁶And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.
⁴⁷因全能者在我身上行了大事，他的名字是圣的，	⁴⁷And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
⁴⁸他的仁慈世世代代于无穷世，赐与敬畏他的人。	⁴⁸Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
⁴⁹他伸出了手臂施展大能，驱散那些心高气傲的人。	⁴⁹Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.
⁵⁰他从高座上推下权势者，却举扬了卑微贫困的人。	⁵⁰And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.
⁵¹他曾使饥饿者饱飨美物，反使那富有者空手而去。	⁵¹He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
⁵²他曾回忆起自己的仁慈，扶助了他的仆人以色列，	⁵²He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
⁵³正如他向我们的祖先所说过的恩许，施恩于亚巴郎和他的子孙，直到永远。」	⁵³He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
⁵⁴玛利亚同依撒伯尔住了三个月左右，就回本家去了。	⁵⁴He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy:
⁵⁵依撒伯尔满了产期，就生了一个儿子。	⁵⁵As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
⁵⁶她的邻居和亲戚听说上主向她大施仁慈，都和她一同欢乐。	⁵⁶And Mary abode with her about three months; and she returned to her own house.
⁵⁷到了第八天，人们来给这孩子行割损礼，并愿意照他父亲的名字叫他匝加利亚。	⁵⁷Now Elizabeth's full time of being delivered was come, and she brought forth a son.
⁵⁸他的母亲说：「不，要叫他若翰。」	⁵⁸And her neighbours and kinsfolks heard that the Lord had shewed his great mercy towards her, and they congratulated with her.
⁵⁹他们就向她说：「在你亲族中没有叫这个名字的。」	⁵⁹And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him by his father's name Zachary.
⁶⁰他们便给他的父亲打手势，看他愿意叫他什么。	⁶⁰And his mother answering, said: Not so; but he shall be called John.
⁶¹他要了一块小板，写道：「若翰是他的名字。」众人都惊讶起来。	⁶¹And they said to her: There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
⁶²匝加利亚的口和舌头立时开了，遂开口赞美天主。	⁶²And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
⁶³于是，所有的邻居都满怀怕情；这一切事就传遍了全犹大山区，	⁶³And demanding a writing table, he wrote, saying: John is his name. And they all wondered.
⁶⁴凡听见的人都将这事存在心中，说：「这孩子将成为什么人物啊？」因为上主的手与他同在。	⁶⁴And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.
⁶⁵他的父亲匝加利亚充满了圣神，遂预言说：	⁶⁵And fear came upon all their neighbours; and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of Judea.
⁶⁶「上主，以色列的天主应受赞美，因他眷顾救赎了自己的民族，	⁶⁶And all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart, saying: What an one, think ye, shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
⁶⁷并在自己的仆人达味家中，为我们兴起了大能的救主，	⁶⁷And Zachary his father was filled with the Holy Ghost; and he prophesied, saying:
⁶⁸正如他藉历代诸圣先知的口所说过的，	⁶⁸Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:
⁶⁹拯救我们脱离敌人和仇恨我们者的手。	⁶⁹And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant:
⁷⁰他向我们的祖先施行仁慈，记忆起他自己的神圣盟约，	⁷⁰As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the beginning:
⁷¹就是他向我们的祖宗亚巴郎所宣述的誓词，	⁷¹Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us:
⁷²恩赐我们从敌人手中被救出以后，无恐无惧，	⁷²To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament,
⁷³一生一世在他面前，以圣善和正义事奉他。	⁷³The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us,
⁷⁴至于你，小孩，你要称为至高者的先知，因你要走在上主前面，为他预备道路，	⁷⁴That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear,
⁷⁵为使他的百姓认识救恩，以获得他们罪恶的宽宥：	⁷⁵In holiness and justice before him, all our days.
⁷⁶这是出于我们天主的慈怀，使旭日由高天向我们照耀，	⁷⁶And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:
⁷⁷为光照那坐在黑暗和死影中的人，并引我们的脚步，走向和平的道路。」	⁷⁷To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins:
⁷⁸这小孩渐渐长大，心神坚强。他住在荒野中，直到他在以色列人前出现的日期。	⁷⁸Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:
⁷⁹	⁷⁹To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.
⁸⁰	⁸⁰And the child grew, and was strengthened in spirit; and was in the deserts until the day of his manifestation to Israel.
