¹那时凯撒奥古斯都出了一道上谕，叫天下的人都要登记：	¹And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
²这是在季黎诺作叙利亚总督时，初次行的登记。	²This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.
³于是，众人各去本城登记。	³And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.
⁴若瑟因为是达味家族的人，也从加里肋亚纳匝肋城，上犹大名叫白冷的达味城去，	⁴And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
⁵好同自己已怀孕的聘妻玛利亚去登记。	⁵To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
⁶他们在那里的时候，她分娩的日期满了，	⁶And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.
⁷便生了她的头胎男儿，用襁褓里起，放在马槽里，因为在客栈中为他们没有地方。	⁷And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
⁸在那地区有些牧人露宿，守夜看守羊群。	⁸And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.
⁹有上主的一个天使站在他们身边，上主的光耀环照着他们，他们便非常害怕。	⁹And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
¹⁰天使向他们说：「不要害怕！看！我给你们报告一个为全民族的大喜讯：	¹⁰And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
¹¹今天在达味城中，为你们诞生了一位救世者，他是主默西亚。	¹¹For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
¹²这是给你们的记号：你们将要看见一个婴儿，里着襁褓，躺在马槽里。」	¹²And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
¹³忽有一大队天军，同那天使一起赞颂天主说：	¹³And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
¹⁴「天主受享光荣于高天，主爱的人在世享平安！」	¹⁴Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
¹⁵众天使离开他们往天上去了以后，牧人们就彼此说：「我们且往白冷去，看看上主报告给我们所发生的事。」	¹⁵And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.
¹⁶他们急忙去了，找到了玛利亚和若瑟，并那躺在马槽中的婴儿。	¹⁶And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
¹⁷他们看见以后，就把天使对他们论这小孩所说的事，传扬开了，	¹⁷And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
¹⁸凡听见的人都惊讶牧人向他们所说的事。	¹⁸And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
¹⁹玛利亚却把这一切事默存在自己心中，反复思想。	¹⁹But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.
²⁰牧人们为了他们所听见和看见的一切，正如天使向他们说的一样，就光荣赞美天主回去了。	²⁰And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
²¹满了八天，孩子应受割损，遂给他起名叫耶稣，这是他降孕母胎前，由天使所起的。	²¹And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
²²按梅瑟的法律，一满了他们取洁的日期，他们便带着孩子上耶路撒冷去献给上主，	²²And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:
²³就如上主的法律上所记载的：「凡开胎首生的男性，应祝圣于上主。」	²³As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:
²⁴并该照上主法律上所吩咐的，献上祭物：一对斑鸠或两只鶵鸽。	²⁴And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:
²⁵那时，在耶路撒冷有一个人，名叫西默盎。这人正义虔诚，期待着以色列的安慰，而且圣神也在他身上。	²⁵And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.
²⁶他曾蒙圣神启示：自己在未看见上主的受傅者以前，决见不到死亡。	²⁶And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
²⁷他因圣神的感动，进了圣殿；那时，抱着婴孩耶稣的父母正进来，要按着法律的惯例为他行礼。	²⁷And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
²⁸西默盎就双臂接过他来，赞美天主说：	²⁸He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:
²⁹「主啊！现在可照你的话，放你的仆人平安去了！	²⁹Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;
³⁰因为我亲眼看见了你的救援，	³⁰Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
³¹即你在万民之前早准备好的：	³¹Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
³²为作启示异邦的光明，你百姓以色列的荣耀。」	³²A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
³³他的父亲和母亲就惊异他关于耶稣所说的这些话。	³³And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.
³⁴西默盎祝福了他们，又向他的母亲玛利亚说：「看，这孩子已被立定，为使以色列中许多人跌倒和复起，并成为反对的记号──	³⁴And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
³⁵至于你，要有一把利剑剌透你的心灵──为叫许多人心中的思念显露出来。」	³⁵And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
³⁶又有一位女先知亚纳，是阿协尔支派法奴耳的女儿，已上了年纪。她出阁后，与丈夫同居了七年，	³⁶And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.
³⁷以后就守寡，直到八十四岁。她斋戒祈祷，昼夜事奉天主，总不离开圣殿。	³⁷And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
³⁸正在那时刻，她也前来称谢天主，并向一切希望耶路撒冷得救赎的人，讲论这孩子。	³⁸Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.
³⁹他们按着上主的法律，行完了一切，便返回了加里肋亚，他们的本城纳匝肋。	³⁹And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
⁴⁰孩子渐渐长大而强壮，充满智慧，天主的恩宠常在他身上。	⁴⁰And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.
⁴¹他的父母每年逾越节往耶路撒冷去。	⁴¹And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,
⁴²他到了十二岁时，他们又照节日的惯例上去了。	⁴²And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,
⁴³过完了节日，他们回去的时候，孩童耶稣却留在耶路撒冷，他的父母并未发觉。	⁴³And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
⁴⁴他们只以为他在同行的人中间，遂走了一天的路程；以后，就在亲戚和相识的人中寻找他。	⁴⁴And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day's journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.
⁴⁵既找不着，便折回耶路撒冷找他。	⁴⁵And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
⁴⁶过了三天，才在圣殿里找到了他。他正坐在经师中，聆听他们，也询问他们。	⁴⁶And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.
⁴⁷凡听见他的人，对他的智慧和对答，都惊奇不止。	⁴⁷And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
⁴⁸他们一看见他，便大为惊异，他的母亲就向他说：「孩子，为什么你这样对待我们？看，你的父亲和我，一直痛苦的找你。」	⁴⁸And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
⁴⁹耶稣对他们说：「你们为什么寻找我？你们不知道我必须在我父亲那里吗？」	⁴⁹And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's business?
⁵⁰但是，他们不明白他对他们所说的话。	⁵⁰And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
⁵¹他就同他们下去，来到纳匝肋，属他们管辖。他的母亲把这一切默存在心中。	⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
⁵²耶稣在智慧和身量上，并在天主和人前的恩爱上，渐渐地增长。	⁵²And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
