厄斯德拉下	Nehemiah
¹当桑巴拉特和托彼雅，以及阿剌伯人、阿孟人和阿市多得人，听说耶路撒冷城垣正在进行修建中，缺口开始修补，就大发忿怒，	¹And it came to pass, that when Sanaballat heard that we were building the wall he was angry: and being moved exceedingly he scoffed at the Jews.
²都联合起来，图谋来攻打耶路撒冷，扰乱我们。	²And said before his brethren, and the multitude of the Samaritans: What are the silly Jews doing? Will the Gentiles let them alone? will they sacrifice and make an end in a day? are they able to raise stones out of the heaps of the rubbish, which are burnt?
³我们一面祈求我们的天主，一面派了卫队，日夜防守。	³Tobias also the Ammonite who was by him said: Let them build: if a fox go up, he will leap over their stone wall.
⁴有一个犹太人说：「运夫的力量已耗尽，积土又太多，我们不能再修城墙了！」	⁴Hear thou our God, for we are despised: turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them to be despised in a land of captivity.
⁵我们的仇敌原已议决说：「不让他们知道，不让他们看出，我们直冲入他们中间，将他们杀掉，停止那工程。」	⁵Cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thy face, because they have mocked thy builders.
⁶那时，有些靠近他们居住的犹太人，十次前来通知我们说：「他们由所住的各方上来，攻打我们，	⁶So we built the wall, and joined it all together unto the half thereof: and the heart of the people was excited to work.
⁷已在城墙下低处的田野中安了营。」我就按照家族分派了人，带上刀枪和弓。	⁷And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Azotians heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and the breaches began to be closed, that they were exceedingly angry.
⁸我巡视之后，就起来对权贵、长官和其余的人民说：「对他们，你们不可畏缩！要记住吾主是伟大而可畏的；应为你们的兄弟、儿女、妻子、家庭而作战。」	⁸And they all assembled themselves together, to come, and to fight against Jerusalem, and to prepare ambushes.
⁹我们的敌人一听说我们得了情报，同时天主也破坏了他们的阴谋，他们遂都撤退；我们也都回到城墙那里，各返自己的工作岗位。	⁹And we prayed to our God, and set watchmen upon the wall day and night against them.
¹⁰从那天起，我的仆人一半做工，一半佩带着刀、矛、盾、弓和铠甲，立在全犹大家后边，	¹⁰And Juda said: The strength of the bearer of burdens is decayed, and the rubbish is very much, and we shall not be able to build the wall.
¹¹即在城墙作工的人后边。那些搬运的人，也都武装起来：一手作工，一手拿着武器；	¹¹And our enemies said: Let them not know, nor understand, till we come in the midst of them, and kill them, and cause the work to cease.
¹²修墙的工人，每人腰间都佩着刀工作。吹号筒的站在我身旁。	¹²And it came to pass, that when the Jews that dwelt by them came and told us ten times, out of all the places from whence they came to us,
¹³我向权贵、官长和其余的人民说：「这工程范围很大，我们在城墙上彼此分离甚远，	¹³I set the people in the place behind the wall round about in order, with their swords, and spears, and bows.
¹⁴所以你们无论在什么地方，一听到号声，就立时聚集我们身旁；我们的天主必为我们战争。」	¹⁴And I looked and rose up: and I said to the chief men and the magistrates, and to the rest of the common people: be not afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, and your wives, and your houses.
¹⁵我们便这样继续工作，由旭日初升，直到星辰出现。	¹⁵And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that the thing had been told us, that God defeated their counsel. And we returned all of us to the walls, every man to his work.
¹⁶同时我又吩咐众民众说：「每人和他的仆人，应在耶路撒冷过夜。如此，在夜间可为我们守卫，白天可以工作。」	¹⁶And it came to pass from that day forward, that half of their young men did the work, and half were ready for to fight, with spears, and shields, and bows, and coats of mail, and the rulers were behind them in all the house of Juda.
¹⁷至于我和我的兄弟，以及我的仆人和跟随我、护卫我的人，没有一人脱过衣服，各人手中常拿着武器。	¹⁷Of them that built on the wall and that carried burdens, and that laded: with one of his hands he did the work, and with the other he held a sword.
¹⁸	¹⁸For every one of the builders was girded with a sword about his reins. And they built, and sounded with a trumpet by me.
¹⁹	¹⁹And I said to the nobles, and to the magistrates, and to the rest of the common people: The work is great and wide, and we are separated on the wall one far from another:
²⁰	²⁰In what place soever you shall hear the sound of the trumpet, run all thither unto us: our God will fight for us.
²¹	²¹And let us do the work: and let one half of us hold our spears from the rising of the morning, till the stars appear.
²²	²²At that time also I said to the people: Let every one with his servant stay in the midst of Jerusalem, and let us take our turns in the night, and by day, to work.
²³	²³Now I and my brethren, and my servants, and the watchmen that followed me, did not put off our clothes: only every man stripped himself when he was to be washed.
