| 1所有的人民，都一致聚集到水门前的广场上，要求厄斯德拉经师，拿出上主命以色列当遵守的《梅瑟法律书》来。 | 1And the seventh month came: and the children of Israel were in their cities. And all the people were gathered together as one man to the street which is before the water gate, and they spoke to Esdras the scribe, to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel. |
| 2厄斯德拉司祭便在七月一日，将《法律书》拿到会众前，即男女和所有能听懂的人前， | 2Then Esdras the priest brought the law before the multitude of men and women, and all those that could understand, in the first day of the seventh month. |
| 3在水门前的广场上，从早晨到中午，在男女和能听懂的人面前，宣读了法律，所有的人民都侧耳静听《法律书》。 | 3And he read it plainly in the street that was before the water gate, from the morning until midday, before the men, and the women, and all those that could understand: and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book. |
| 4厄斯德拉经师站在为此特备的木台上，他右边站着玛提提雅、舍玛、阿纳雅、乌黎雅、希耳克雅和玛阿色雅；他左边有培达雅、米沙耳、玛耳基雅、哈雄、哈协巴达纳、则加黎雅和默叔蓝。 | 4And Esdras the scribe stood upon a step of wood, which he had made to speak upon, and there stood by him Mathathias, and Semeia, and Ania, and Uria, and Helcia, and Maasia, on his right hand: and on the left, Phadaia, Misael, and Melchia, and Hasum, and Hasbadana, Zacharia and Mosollam. |
| 5厄斯德拉在众目注视之下展开了书，── 因他高立在众人以上，── 他展开书时，众人都立起来。 | 5And Esdras opened the book before all the people: for he was above all the people: and when he had opened it, all the people stood. |
| 6厄斯德拉先赞颂了上主，伟大的天主，全民众举手回答说：「阿们，阿们！」以后跪下，伏首至地，钦崇上主。 | 6And Esdras blessed the Lord the great God: and all the people answered, Amen, amen: lifting up their hands: and they bowed down, and adored God with their faces to the ground. |
| 7肋未人耶叔亚、巴尼、舍勒彼雅、雅明、阿谷布、沙贝泰、曷狄雅、玛阿色雅、刻里达、阿匝黎雅、约匝巴得、哈南和培拉雅，为民众讲解法律，民众立在原处不动。 | 7Now Josue, and Bani, and Serebia, Jamin, Accub, Sephtai, Odia, Maasia, Celtia, Azarias, Jozabed, Hanan, Phalaia, the Levites, made silence among the people to hear the law: and the people stood in their place. |
| 8厄斯德拉读一段天主的《法律书》，即作翻译和解释，如此民众可以懂清所诵读的。 | 8And they read in the book of the law of God distinctly and plainly to be understood: and they understood when it was read. |
| 9乃赫米雅省长和厄斯德拉司祭兼经师，并教导民众的肋未人，向民众说：「今天是上主你们天主的圣日，你们不可忧愁哭泣！」因为全民众听了法律的话，都在哭泣。 | 9And Nehemias (he is Athersatha) and Esdras the priest and scribe, and the Levites who interpreted to all the people, said: This is a holy day to the Lord our God: do not mourn, nor weep: for all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. |
| 10为此，乃赫米雅又向他们说：「你们应去吃肥美的肉，喝甘甜的酒，且赠送一部分，给那些没有预备的人，因为今天是吾主的圣日；你们不可忧愁，因为喜乐于上主，就是你们的力量。」 | 10And he said to them: Go, eat fat meats, and drink sweet wine, and send portions to them that have not prepared for themselves: because it is the holy day of the Lord, and be not sad: for the joy of the Lord is our strength. |
| 11肋未人也安慰民众说：「你们要安静，因为今天是圣日，不应忧愁！」 | 11And the Levites stilled all the people, saying: Hold your peace, for the day is holy, and be not sorrowful. |
| 12民众遂去吃喝，且赠送一部分给他人，大家异常欢乐，因为都明白了向他们所讲的话。 | 12So all the people went to eat and drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth: because they understood the words that he had taught them. |
| 13第二天，全民众的族长和司祭并肋未人，都聚集在厄斯德拉经师身旁，研究法律上的话， | 13And on the second day the chiefs of the families of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Esdras the scribe, that he should interpret to them the words of the law. |
| 14发现法律上记载：上主曾藉梅瑟，命令以色列子民，在七月的庆节日，应住在帐棚内。 | 14And they found written in the law, that the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in tabernacles, on the feast, in the seventh month: |
| 15他们一听说如此，遂在各城和耶路撒冷，宣布这命令说：「你们上山去，取橄榄树的枝叶、野橄榄树的枝叶、长春树的枝叶、棕树的枝叶，和其他茂盛树的枝叶，照经上所写的，搭造帐棚。」 | 15And that they should proclaim and publish the word in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying: Go forth to the mount, and fetch branches of olive, and branches of beautiful wood, branches of myrtle, and branches of palm, and branches of thick trees, to make tabernacles, as it is written. |
| 16民众就去采了树枝来，在屋顶上，院子里，天主殿宇的庭院内，水门的广场上，和厄弗辣因广场上，搭了帐棚。 | 16And the people went forth, and brought. And they made themselves tabernacles every man on the top of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim. |
| 17由充军回来的全会众，都搭造了帐棚，住在帐棚内；从农的儿子若苏厄之日起，直到今日，以色列没有举行过如此的盛事，大家都非常欢乐。 | 17And all the assembly of them that were returned from the captivity, made tabernacles, and dwelt in tabernacles: for since the days of Josue the son of Nun the children of Israel had not done so, until that day: and there was exceeding great joy. |
| 18第一日直到最后一日，天天宣读天主的《法律书》；七天之久过了庆节，第八天按规定举行了盛会。 | 18And he read in the book of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last, and they kept the solemnity seven days, and in the eighth day a solemn assembly according to the manner. |
