| 1巴郎对巴拉克说：「请你在这里给我建造七座祭坛，给我准备七头公牛犊和七只公绵羊。」 | 1And Balaam said to Balac: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams. |
| 2巴拉克就照巴郎说的做了；巴拉克和巴郎在每座祭坛上奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 2And when he had done according to the word of Balaam, they laid together a calf and a ram upon every altar. |
| 3然后巴郎对巴拉克说：「你留在你的全燔祭旁，我要前去，或许上主会使我遇见他；他指示我什么，我都告诉你。」 | 3And Balaam said to Balac: Stand a while by thy burnt offering, until I go, to see if perhaps the Lord will meet me, and whatsoever he shall command, I will speak to thee. |
| 4他就上了一座荒丘。天主遇到了巴郎，巴郎遂对天主说：「我建造了七座祭坛，在每座祭坛上，奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。」 | 4And when he was gone with speed, God met him. And Balaam speaking to him, said: I have erected seven altars, and have laid on everyone a calf and a ram. |
| 5上主遂将巴郎要说的话放在他口中，然后对他说：「你回到巴拉克那里就这样说。」 | 5And the Lord put the word in his mouth, and said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou speak. |
| 6他回到巴拉克那里，看见他和摩阿布所有的缙绅，仍站在全燔祭旁； | 6Returning he found Balac standing by his burnt offering, with all the princes of the Moabites: |
| 7于是吟诗说：「巴拉克将我由阿兰召来，摩阿布王叫我由东方的山岭前来：你来替我咒骂雅各伯，你来诅咒以色列！ | 7And taking up his parable, he said: Balac king of the Moabites hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, said he, and curse Jacob: make haste and detest Israel. |
| 8我岂能咒骂天主所不咒骂的？我岂能诅咒上主所不诅咒的？ | 8How shall I curse him, whom God hath not cursed? By what means should I detest him, whom the Lord detesteth not? |
| 9我由巖峰向他们观看，我由高丘向他们眺望：这是一独居，而不应与众民同列的民族。 | 9I shall see him from the tops of the rocks, and shall consider him from the hills. This people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. |
| 10谁能数尽雅各伯的尘埃，谁能算清以色列的尘沙？惟愿我的死有如义人的死，我的结局相似他的结局。」 | 10Who can count the dust of Jacob, and know the number of the stock of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the just, and my last end be like to them. |
| 11巴拉克对巴郎说：「你对我作的是什么事？我叫你来是为咒骂我的仇敌，你反而祝福！」 | 11And Balac said to Balaam: What is this that thou dost? I sent for thee to curse my enemies: and thou contrariwise blessest them. |
| 12他回答说：「我岂不该谨慎说出上主叫我说的话吗？」 | 12He answered him: Call I speak any thing else but what the Lord commandeth? |
| 13巴拉克对他说：「请你同我到另一地方去，从那里可看到他们；这里只看到一部分，不能看全部；从那里替我咒骂他们。」 | 13Balac therefore said: Come with me to another place from whence thou mayest see part of Israel, and canst not see them all: curse them from thence. |
| 14于是领他到了丕斯加山顶上的瞭望台。在那里建造了七座祭坛，在每座祭坛上，奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 14And when he had brought him to a high place, upon the top of mount Phasga, Balaam built seven altars, and laying on every one a calf and a ram, |
| 15巴郎对巴拉克说：「你在这里，站在你的全燔祭旁，我到那边去会见上主。」 | 15He said to Balac: Stand here by thy burnt offering while I go to meet him. |
| 16上主就显现给巴郎，把他要说的话放在他口内，然后说：「你回巴拉克那里，就这样说。」 | 16And when the Lord had met him, and had put the word in his mouth, he said: Return to Balac, and thus shalt thou say to him. |
| 17他来到巴拉克那里，看见他还站在全燔祭旁，摩阿布的缙绅仍同他在一起；巴拉克便问他说：「上主说了什么？」 | 17Returning he found him standing by his burnt sacrifice, and the princes of the Moabites with him. And Balac said to him: What hath the Lord spoken? |
| 18他于是吟诗说：「巴拉克起来静听！漆颇尔的儿子，倾耳听我！ | 18But he taking up his parable, said: Stand, O Balac, and give ear: hear, thou son of Sephor: |
| 19天主不像人能食言，不像人子能反悔。他说了岂能不做，许了岂能不行？ | 19God is not a man, that he should lie, nor as the son of man, that he should be changed. Hath he said then, and will he not do? hath he spoken, and will he not fulfill? |
| 20我受命是为祝福；他要祝福，我不能变更。 | 20I was brought to bless, the blessing I am not able to hinder. |
| 21在雅各伯中不见罪恶，在以色列中不睹灾祸；上主他们的天主与他们同在，欢呼君王之声，常在他们中间。 | 21There is no idol in Jacob, neither is there an image god to be seen in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the sound of the victory of the king in him. |
| 22领他们由埃及出来的天主，为他们有如野牛的角。 | 22God hath brought him out of Egypt, whose strength is like to the rhinoceros. |
| 23其实雅各伯不需要巫术，以色列不需要占卜；时候一到，自会启示与雅各伯和以色列；天主要作什么。 | 23There is no soothsaying in Jacob, nor divination in Israel. In their times it shall be told to Jacob and to Israel what God hath wrought. |
| 24这民族起来有如母狮，挺身像雄狮，不吞下猎物，不喝被杀的血，决不卧下。」 | 24Behold the people shall rise up as a lioness, and shall lift itself up as a lion: it shall not lie down till it devour the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. |
| 25巴拉克对巴郎说：「你不咒骂他们，但也不该祝福啊！」 | 25And Balac said to Balaam: Neither curse, nor bless him. |
| 26巴郎回答巴拉克说：「我不是对你说过：我应做上主所吩咐的一切吗？」 | 26And he said: Did I not tell thee, that whatsoever God should command me, that I would do? |
| 27巴拉克对巴郎说：「来，我领你到另一个地方去，或者天主喜欢你从那里替我咒骂他们。」 | 27And Balac said to him: Come and I will bring thee to another place; if peradventure it please God that thou mayest curse them from thence. |
| 28巴拉克于是领巴郎到了俯视旷野的培敖尔山顶。 | 28And when he had brought him upon the top of mount Phogor, which looketh towards the wilderness, |
| 29巴郎对巴拉克说：「你在这里给我建造七座祭坛，给我准备七头公牛犊和七只公绵羊。」 | 29Balaam said to him: Build me here seven altars, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams. |
| 30巴拉克就照巴郎说的做了，在每座祭坛上奉献了一头公牛犊和一只公绵羊。 | 30Balac did as Balaam had said: and he laid on every altar, a calf and a ram. |
