箴言	Proverbs
¹玛萨人雅刻之子阿古尔的格言，即他给依提耳、给依提耳和乌加耳的断语：	¹The words of Gatherer the son of Vomiter. The vision which the man spoke with whom God is, and who being strengthened by God, abiding with him, said:
²我比谁都愚蠢，没有人的才智。	²I am the most foolish of men, and the wisdom of men is not with me.
³我从来没有学得智慧，致能通晓圣者的知识。	³I have not learned wisdom, and have not known the science of saints.
⁴谁曾上升过天而又降下？谁能将风收集在手中？谁能将水聚集在大衣内？谁为这大地立定了边界？他叫什么名字？其子姓甚名谁？你知道吗？	⁴Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath held the wind in his hands? who hath bound up the waters together as in a garment? who hath raised up all the borders of the earth? what is his name, and what is the name of his son, if thou knowest?
⁵天主的每一句话，都是经火精炼的；凡托庇于他的人，他必要作其护盾。	⁵Every word of God is fire tried: he is a buckler to them that hope in him.
⁶对他所说的话，不可加添什么；免得他指责你，证明你在说谎。	⁶Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:
⁷我求你两件事，在我未死以前，请不要拒绝我：	⁷Two things I have asked of thee, deny them not to me before I die.
⁸令虚伪和欺诈远离我，贫乏或富裕勿赐与我，只供予我必需的食粮，	⁸Remove far from me vanity, and lying words. Give me neither beggary, nor riches: give me only the necessaries of life:
⁹免得我吃饱了，背叛你说：「谁是上主？」或是过于贫乏，因而行窃，加辱我天主的名。	⁹Lest perhaps being filled, I should be tempted to deny, and say: Who is the Lord? or being compelled by poverty, I should steal, and forswear the name of my God.
¹⁰别在主人前，诽谤他的奴仆，怕他咒骂你，你就不免受罚。	¹⁰Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou fall.
¹¹有一种人，咒骂父亲；自己母亲，也不祝福。	¹¹There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
¹²有一种人，自视清高；自身污秽，却不洗涤。	¹²A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness.
¹³有一种人，眼睛傲慢，目空一切。	¹³A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.
¹⁴有一种人，牙如利剑，齿如快刀，地上弱小，人间贫民，吞食一空。	¹⁴A generation, that for teeth hath swords, and grindeth with their jaw teeth, to devour the needy from off the earth, and the poor from among men.
¹⁵水蛭有两个女儿，常说「给我！给我！」不知足的东西，共有三样，总不说「够了」的，共有四样：	¹⁵The horseleech hath two daughters that say: Bring, bring. There are three things that never are satisfied, and the fourth never saith: It is enough.
¹⁶即阴府、荒胎、总饮不足水的地，和总不说「够了」的火。	¹⁶Hell, and the mouth of the womb, and the earth which is not satisfied with water: and the fire never saith: It is enough.
¹⁷谁嘲笑父亲，或轻视年老的母亲，愿他的眼睛，被谷中的乌鸦啄去，为小鹰所食。	¹⁷The eye that mocketh at his father, and that despiseth the labour of his mother in bearing him, let the ravens of the brooks pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.
¹⁸令我称奇的事，共有三样，连我不明了的，共有四样：	¹⁸Three things are hard to me, and the fourth I am utterly ignorant of.
¹⁹即鹰在天空飞翔的道，蛇在岩石爬行的道，船在海中航行的道，以及男女交合之道。	¹⁹The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent upon a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man in youth.
²⁰淫妇的作风是这样：她吃了后，抹抹口说：「我并没有为非作歹。」	²⁰Such is also the way of an adulterous woman, who eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith: I have done no evil.
²¹使地战栗的事，共有三样，连不可容忍的，共有四样：	²¹By three things the earth is disturbed, and the fourth it cannot bear:
²²即奴隶为王，愚人饱食，	²²By a slave when he reigneth: by a fool when he is filled with meat:
²³丑女出嫁，婢女当家。	²³By an odious woman when she is married: and by a bondwoman when she is heir to her mistress.
²⁴地上的小动物中，有四种极其聪明：	²⁴There are four very little things of the earth, and they are wiser than the wise:
²⁵蚂蚁是无力的一群，却在夏日储备食粮；	²⁵The ants, a feeble people, which provide themselves food in the harvest:
²⁶岩貍是无能的一群，却在岩石中筑巢穴；	²⁶The rabbit, a weak people, which maketh its bed in the rock:
²⁷蝗虫虽然没有君王，却知一齐列队出发；	²⁷The locust hath no king, yet they all go out by their bands.
²⁸壁虎能用手来捕捉，却经常出入于皇宫。	²⁸The stellio supporteth itself on hands, and dwelleth in kings' houses.
²⁹举止昂然之物，共有三样，连威仪赫赫的，共有四样：	²⁹There are three things, which go well, and the fourth that walketh happily:
³⁰即兽中称雄的狮子，面临一切从不退缩；	³⁰A lion, the strongest of beasts, who hath no fear of any thing he meeteth:
³¹独步鸡群中的雄鸡，开头领队的公山羊，和检阅人民的君王。	³¹A cock girded about the loins: and a ram: and a king, whom none can resist.
³²你一时糊涂，高举了自己，当你反省时，应以手掩口；	³²There is that hath appeared a fool after he was lifted up on high: for if he had understood, he would have laid his hand upon his mouth.
³³因为搅动乳汁，可出奶油；用力扭鼻，可流鲜血；激起愤怒，必生争端。	³³And he that strongly squeezeth the papa to bring out milk, straineth out butter: and he that violently bloweth his nose, bringeth out blood: and he that provoketh wrath bringeth forth strife.
