| 1永生的天主，一举而创造了万物，惟有上主堪称是正义的，永远是常胜的君王。 | 1He that liveth for ever created all things together. God only shall be justified, and he remaineth an invincible king for ever. |
| 2无人能详述他的化工； | 2Who is able to declare his works? |
| 3谁能穷究他的伟大？ | 3For who shall search out his glorious acts? |
| 4谁能述尽他威严的权力？谁能说完他的仁慈？ | 4And who shall shew forth the power of his majesty? or who shall be able to declare his mercy? |
| 5上主的奇妙化工，人不能增损，也无法穷究。 | 5Nothing may be taken away, nor added, neither is it possible to find out the glorious works of God: |
| 6当人以为完毕时，他却正在开始；当人以为停止时，却仍感到迷惑。 | 6When a man hath done, then shall he begin: and when he leaveth off, he shall be at a loss. |
| 7人是什么，他有什么用途？对于天主，他有什么好处，有什么害处？ | 7What is man, and what is his grace? and what is his good, or what is his evil? |
| 8人的年龄，至多一百岁，就像海水的一滴，沙中的一粒，在永远的日子里，连一千年，也不过如此。 | 8The number of the days of men at the most are a hundred years: as a drop of water of the sea are they esteemed: and as a pebble of the sand, so are a few years compared to eternity. |
| 9为此，上主忍耐他们，在他们身上倾注自己的仁慈。 | 9Therefore God is patient in them, and poureth forth his mercy upon them. |
| 10他明见而且深知，他们的结局是凶恶的，知道他们的灭亡是悲惨的。 | 10He hath seen the presumption of their heart that it is wicked, and hath known their end that it is evil. |
| 11为此，天主对他们大加宽恕，给他们指出正义的途径。 | 11Therefore bath he filled up his mercy in their favour, and hath shewn them the way of justice. |
| 12人的慈爱只朝向自己的近人，而上主的怜爱，却临于一切有血肉的人。 | 12The compassion of man is toward his neighbour: but the mercy of God is upon all flesh. |
| 13怀有仁慈的上主，劝告、惩戒、教训世人，领他们回来，正如牧人领回自己的羊群。 | 13He hath mercy, and teacheth, and correcteth, as a shepherd doth his flock. |
| 14领受他的教导，和渴慕他判断的人，他必加以怜悯。 | 14He hath mercy on him that receiveth the discipline of mercy, and that maketh haste in his judgments. |
| 15我儿，你救济时，不要加以责斥；你施惠时，不要说使人伤心的话。 | 15My son, in thy good deeds, make no complaint, and when thou givest any thing, add not grief by an evil word. |
| 16露水不是可以消除炎热吗？同样，一句好话比恩惠更快人心。 | 16Shall not the dew assuage the heat? so also the good word is better than the gift. |
| 17一句好话，不是胜过恩惠吗？但是，只有仁爱的人，才能作到这两点。 | 17Lo, is not a word better than a gift? but both are with a justified man. |
| 18愚人只会无礼责斥人；悭吝人的恩惠，使人目光消沉。 | 18A fool will upbraid bitterly: and a gift of one ill taught consumeth the eyes. |
| 19在审判以前，你要具备正义感，在讲话以前，应先学习。 | 19Before judgment prepare thee justice, and learn before thou speak. |
| 20在未病以前，应善自珍重。在审判以前，应审察自己，这样，当天主来视察你的时候，你必能寻获宽恕。 | 20Before sickness take a medicine, and before judgment examine thyself, and thou shalt find mercy in the sight of God. |
| 21在未病之先，你要谦卑自下；在有罪的时候，要表示忏悔。 | 21Humble thyself before thou art sick, and in the time of sickness shew thy conversation. |
| 22不要让什么阻碍你指定的时期还愿，也不要等到临死才行义，因为天主的赏报永远存在。 | 22Let nothing hinder thee from praying always, and be not afraid to be justified even to death: for the reward of God continueth for ever. |
| 23在许愿以前，你应善自准备，免得你像是一个试探上主的人。 | 23Before prayer prepare thy soul: and be not as a man that tempteth God. |
| 24你要思念天主在末日的震怒，和他报复时，转面不顾。 | 24Remember the wrath that shall be at the last day, and the time of repaying when he shall turn away his face. |
| 25丰收时，要记得饥荒时；富裕时，要想到穷困时。 | 25Remember poverty is the time of abundance, and the necessities of poverty in the day of riches. |
| 26从早到晚，时辰更替，在上主面前，一切都要迅速过去。 | 26From the morning until the evening the time shall be changed, and all these are swift in the eyes of God. |
| 27明智人凡事谨慎，在易犯罪的日子，必然小心而不犯罪。 | 27A wise man will fear in every thing, and in the days of sins will beware of sloth. |
| 28凡是智慧的人，都认识智慧；找着她的人，智慧必加以称许。 | 28Every man of understanding knoweth wisdom, and will give praise to him that findeth her. |
| 29明白箴言的，就是智慧人，他们懂得真理与正义，并且流露出卓绝的格言。 | 29They that were of good understanding in words, have also done wisely themselves: and have understood truth and justice, and have poured forth proverbs and judgments. |
| 30不要顺从你的欲情，要抑制你的欲望。 | 30Go not after thy lusts, but turn away from thy own will. |
| 31假使你满足你的情欲，它必使你成为你敌人的笑柄。 | 31If thou give to thy soul her desires, she will make thee a joy to thy enemies. |
| 32不要喜爱奢侈的生活，也不要加入这样的集会。在集会中，不拘人多少，你也不要找寻快乐，因为在那里，人总不免沾染罪恶。 | 32Take no pleasure in riotous assemblies, be they ever so small: for their concertation is continual. |
| 33几时你囊中一无所有，不要借贷设宴，而使你陷于穷困；否则，便是苦害你的生命。 | 33Make not thyself poor by borrowing to contribute to feasts when thou hast nothing in thy purse: for thou shalt be an enemy to thy own life. |
