德训篇	Sirach
¹疼爱自己儿子的，应当时常鞭打他，好能因他的将来而喜悦，免得他将来沿门乞食。	¹He that loveth his son, frequently chastiseth him, that he may rejoice in his latter end, and not grope after the doors of his neighbours.
²训导自己儿子的，必会因他而得幸福；在自己亲属相识前，也必会因他而自豪。	²He that instructeth his son shall be praised in him, and shall glory in him in the midst of them of his household.
³教训自己儿子的，会激起仇人的嫉妒；但在朋友前，必会因他而高兴。	³He that teacheth his son, maketh his enemy jealous, and in the midst of his friends he shall glory in him.
⁴他的父亲虽然死了，却像没有死一样，因为他留下了一个相似自己的人。	⁴His father is dead, and he is as if he were not dead: for he hath left one behind him that is like himself.
⁵他在生时，一见自己的儿子，心里就喜欢；在临终时，不会忧虑，在仇人前，也不会蒙羞。	⁵While he lived he saw and rejoiced in him: and when he died he was not sorrowful, neither was he confounded before his enemies.
⁶对于仇人，他留下了一个报仇的人；对于朋友他留下了一个报恩的人。	⁶For he left behind him a defender of his house against his enemies, and one that will requite kindness to his friends.
⁷至于那放纵儿子的，日后他必包扎儿子的创伤；每听到他的叫声，心里就苦恼。	⁷For the souls of his sons he shall bind up his wounds, and at every cry his bowels shall be troubled.
⁸不驯服的马，是难以驾驭的；任性的儿子，必然鲁莽执拗。	⁸A horse not broken becometh stubborn, and a child left to himself will become headstrong.
⁹姑息孩子，日后他必会使你惊骇；同他开玩笑，日后他必会使你悲伤。	⁹Give thy son his way, and he shall make thee afraid: play with him, and he shall make thee sorrowful.
¹⁰不要和他戏笑，免得将来同他一起悲伤；最后切齿痛恨。	¹⁰Laugh not with him, lest thou have sorrow, and at the last thy teeth be set on edge.
¹¹在他年轻时，不要让他放任自由；对他的过失，不可忽略不顾。	¹¹Give him not liberty in his youth, and wink not at his devices.
¹²在他年轻时，要使他低首下心；趁他还小时，要叫他屈己服从，以免他转为倔强，不服从你，使你伤心。	¹²Bow down his neck while he is young, and beat his sides while he is a child, lest he grow stubborn, and regard thee not, and so be a sorrow of heart to thee.
¹³要教训你的儿子，叫他勤劳，免得你因他的无耻，绊倒受辱。	¹³Instruct thy son, and labour about him, lest his lewd behaviour be an offence to thee.
¹⁴强健而有力的穷人，胜过受疾病折磨，而虚弱的富人。	¹⁴Better is a poor man who is sound, and strong of constitution, than a rich man who is weak and afflicted with evils.
¹⁵健康和强壮的体格，尤其灵魂在正义的圣德上，所享的健康，比一切黄金更有价值；健全的身体比无数的财富更好。	¹⁵Health of the soul in holiness of justice, is better then all gold and silver: and a sound body, than immense revenues.
¹⁶没有一种财富，能胜过身体的健康；也没有一种快乐，能超过内心的喜悦。	¹⁶There is no riches above the riches of the health of the body: and there is no pleasure above the joy of the heart.
¹⁷死亡比辛酸的人生更好；永久的安息，胜于不断的病苦。	¹⁷Better is death than a bitter life: and everlasting rest, than continual sickness.
¹⁸对有口不能下咽的人，端来的美味，等于设在墓旁的祭筵。	¹⁸Good things that are hidden in a mouth that is shut, are as masses of meat set about a grave.
¹⁹祭祀对偶像有什么用处？既不能吃，又不能闻：	¹⁹What good shall an offering do to an idol? for it can neither eat, nor smell:
²⁰被上主惩罚，承担自己罪孽报应的人，正是如此。	²⁰So is he that is persecuted by the Lord, bearing the reward of his iniquity:
²¹他用眼一看，就喟然长叹，正如一个阉人，拥抱着处女，而喟然长叹一样。	²¹He seeth with his eyes, and groaneth, as an eunuch embracing a virgin, and sighing.
²²不要使你的心灵沉陷在忧愁里，也不要因无谓的思虑，而自寻苦恼。	²²Give not up thy soul to sadness, and afflict not thyself in thy own counsel.
²³心中喜乐是人的生命，是圣德的无尽宝藏；人心愉快，可享长寿。	²³The joyfulness of the heart, is the life of a man, and a never failing treasure of holiness: and the joy of a man is length of life.
²⁴对你的灵魂要有爱情，又要悦乐天主，克制自己，以上主的圣德，安慰你的心，使忧愁远离你。	²⁴Have pity on thy own soul, pleasing God, and contain thyself: gather up thy heart in his holiness: and drive away sadness far from thee.
²⁵因为忧愁害死了许多人，忧愁对人毫无益处。	²⁵For sadness hath killed many, and there is no profit in it.
²⁶嫉妒和忿怒，能使寿命缩短；苦心积虑，使人未老先衰。	²⁶Envy and anger shorten a man's days, and pensiveness will bring old age before the time.
²⁷心中喜乐而善良的人，必殷勤做好自己餐桌上的食物。	²⁷A Cheerful and good heart is always feasting: for his banquets are prepared with diligence.
